Coming off fluoxetine?

Hi, has anyone got experience of coming off fluoxetine? I went on it last year after my Dad died and was having a horrible time coping with a suidical mum, and a depressed and alcoholic DH. It really helped, I think - it's sort of hard to know but I did feel better and I think it has helped me sleep better. One year on and lots of counselling later and I am feeling like I want to stop taking it now. I realised that in fact I had only been taking it sporadically anyway, maybe three or four tablets a week instead of seven. I took the last tablet in my current packet on Monday and haven't taken anymore since. So far I feel fine, good in fact, the only difference has been more vivid dreams. Do you think I will get any side effects/withdrawal symptoms? I know it has a long half life and stays in your system for a while. Thanks.

I suspect you have weaned yourself off them by accident!
A suggestion I have heard is to go alternate days for a fortnight, then stop, so you're not far off schedule!
So glad you are feeling better than last year..keep taking care of yourself x

Because of its long half life you shouldn't get any withdrawal effects so I think you'd be fine to stop if that's what you want.

Thanks, it's now a week since I took any and I seem to be fine so far so hopefully that's it. Thanks.
