Can anyone suggest good herbal supplements for depression please?

I know of St John's Wort, but have you found anything else that works? TIA.

Try using it in combination with ginko.

I was going to suggest St John`s Wort too, but I found it only worked for me for about 6 months, and took a good 6 weeks to even start to kick in.

Another possibility is Evening Primrose Oil along with Vitamin B6 - but see a doctor, they may be able to recommend something else. There is something out of Germany (I forget the name, sorry! Maybe "red something"?) that is rumoured to help too.

But TBH if your depression is really quite bad, don`t hold out on yourself. Go for the proper treatment. It took me a long time to, I wasted a lot of time being very bad when I could have been in recovery, and really, you have no idea how bad things have got until you actually get better and can then look back and have a frame of reference to compare it too!

Rhodiola rosea is supposed to be good as a general tonic and have some of the effectiveness of St John Wort without affecting the efficiency of the birth control pill I seem to remember. Best check in a reputable health food shop though.

Berocca (non-fizzy) are helpful on bad days, no side-effects, but I also have anti-depressants from GP and would always try these first.

Thanks for all your replies. After a bit more research, I finally settled on high-dose fish oil; I'm probably lacking in omega 3 as I don't like fish, so thought this might be a sensible first option. I'm not terribly depressed; tbh I think it might be SAD as I feel the worst is over for now, but it can't hurt to make sure I'm properly nourished Smile.
