fluoxetine + nausea

hi all
started on fluoxetine for recurring depression on December 25 . Have been on Seroxat in the past but came off them ( prob too quickly - hence a relapse) as gained a stone in 4 months. The withdrawal was horrible , don't want to go through that again.
Anyway , still feeling nausea on and off (some days nothing, other days all day or in the evening) and feeling extremely tired ( but was also tired before with the depression) - is this normal . I thought side effects were meant to pass in the first two weeks? Don't want to discontinue/change ad as they appear to be working for the depression though I am still a bit up and down.
Any thoughts from fellow mumsnet fluoxetine users?

any chance you could be PG? when I started on Citalopram I assumed that the nausea was a side effect of the Citalopram but turned out I was 5 weeks PG - ooops . I would expect significant side effects to go in first two weeks really. I never felt nauseous with the Prozac, but I did have a dodgy tummy on and off for two weeks. I would go back to docs to discuss the nausea you are experiencing.

definitely not pregnant - will make an appointment to see my gp next week - really don't want to go down the changing ad route though - mainly scared of gaining weight ( which is very vain I know ) but honestly seroxat just made me want to eat and eat sweet sugary foods (hence the 1 stone weight increase)and I still can't get into a lot of my clothes.....

When I started taking fluoxetine I had nausea like you are experiencing and it didn't totally dissapear til I'd say about 6 weeks. It really worked for the depression though. hang in there

thanks trinityrocks - was ready to give them up about two days ok - really tired and nauseous - this has gone now ( hopefully permanently!) and I feel a lot better - may have to change my username!

I had nausea for 3wks with it, didn't work on my depression though. Changed to cipralex and promazine which worked wonders, oh yeah and a years worth of therapy, just had ds2 with no problems after. Last took anti-d's with ds1 3yrs ago. If you aren't already doing any i recommend therapy it works a treat.

its suprising how many people dont get the chance you know, gp's just palm you off with aload of pills. It makes me mad cos they are only really a help they dont solve the problem but gp makes out they do!!!! Mine did anyway, i was really lucky to have my parents they got me in at the priory i was v,ill!!!!!

Hi everyone. I've been on venlafaxine (effexor xl) for over 7 years. Am now down to 75mg per day and am missing every 4th day in a bid to come down so that I can change to something else.
I do believe I need anti d's still but have discovered that the venlafaxine has possibly given me high eye pressure which could lead to glaucoma if unattended. There is a definite link with eye problems and I have no previous probs in my family so want to get off to be on the safe side.
I reckon I've definitely put on weight, completely lost libido and lost some of my co ordination (eg if I fall - don't put arms out to break fall)
What other anti d's do you recommend?
