Help please has anyone else experienced really bad increased anxiety after starting setraline. I am on day 7 and have spent the last four days in hell. Is this a normal side effect or not I'm going to see my gp tomorrow as this doesn't feel right. Had to take valium today and can't sleep thanks

Hello Sassie

I am sorry that nobody has been along yet, hopefully someone who knows will be soon.

I'm on my first day at 50mg and have been feeling very sick all day. I am very nervous about how they will effect me.

I hope you feel better soon, I hope your GP has answers.

Also do note that they say things have to get worse before they get better, one of the side effects is feeling worse for a while.

Yes it is common to feel more anxious during your first few weeks on SSRI anti-depressants. It should settle in about two weeks. However if it feels too bad to cope with go to your doctor for advice. I had a massive reaction to citalopram in the form of unmanageable anxiety leading eventually to an out of hours doctor prescribing quetiapine to calm me down again - turns out the stuff is not suitable for me.

Load I hope I haven't scared you thus could just be a reaction I'm having madmouse did you try others?? I know people keep saying it takes 2 week but I really didn't expect the side effects to be so extreme for so long don't know how much more I can take it was bad before but this is 10 times worse

Yes it is likely to make you feel like shite at first.
Im on 50mg for PTSD this is my second time on them, i had very bad stomach problems initially, and always have night sweats and grinding teeth on them.

Did you start on 25mg? My GP advised me to do this as it can lessen any side effects, i did 25mg for a week, rhen onto 50mg.

FWIW i love sertraline, i feel so much more normal on them, i can function like a human with proper emotions, right now i dont care if im on them forever

No I went straight onto 50mg? I haven't really had other probs you describe but the anxiety is tenfold Sad

I'm not scared don't worry Sassie

Mosschops your comment has reassured me, I am willing to put up with it if I know it will get better eventually

Went to gp she says i have had a severe reaction to the setraline and taken me straight off changed to a sedative ads which should help me sleep too Smile so much calmer now knowing things should and will improve thanks for your support x

Yay well done - hope this one works better.

btw I did not try others, I decided to pay privately for therapy instead of waiting for the NHS and I'm much better now. My gp says he will refer to a psychiatrist (as medication expert) if I need to start using meds again at some point.
