can anyone help?

I've just found out that my cousin has been drinking increasingly heavily for the last 3 months. She is a single mum to an 18 month old. Apparently at 6am this morning she was feeling so shaky she took her toddler and went to the 24-hour supermarket to buy vodka. She says she's drinking up to 750mls daily.

She says she wants to stop. She has never left her son, not even for 10 minutes, so the thought of in-patient detox fills her with dread. I have offered to look after her son but she can't face it. Also the waiting list is quite long I think.

Obviously stopping completely is too risky, and so is home detox, given that she's on her own with a toddler and no family nearby.

Does anyone have any experience of gradually reducing alcohol quantities to do a sort of DIY detox, without any of the withdrawal risks? I realise it would require huge amounts of willpower. Is this possible?

She needs to go to AA

She needs to speak to her GP who can monitor her health, and also refer her to a drug and alcohol service who can assist her. She may possibly be able to do a home detox, but she would need someone to look after her toddler (in same house is ok).

She really does need to address her drinking urgently if she wants to remain an effective parent and not damage her child emotionally.
