Anyone on mirtazapine?

Hi, I've previously been on citalopram and although I eventually found it helpful I really struggled initially with the side-effects and getting the dose right. I'm trying to find an AD that doesn't have such bad side effects to start with so that I can carry on working. I've heard that mirtazepine acts quicker and has less initial side effects? Anyone had any experience of this AD?

It was a wonder-drug for me, although caused me to gain weight. But it saved my life, I think. Or helped, at least. Have you talked about it with your dr?

I have taken mirtazepine as a top-up to citalopram. I only take it when I am feeling really bad. I find it helpful, in that it relieves my mood, but it sends me to sleep. I have never taken it for more than a few days at a time, so the sedation might be something that wears off. Don't let that put you off, drugs work differently in different people, and a lot of people do get on with mirtazepine. I hope you and your psychiatrist can find something that suits you.

I took mirtazapine for 2 years, after a terrible experience with citalopram (v. bad reaction)

I found it brilliant, it helped me sleep and definitely reduced my anxiety and low mood. The sedation can be quite strong at first, but I found it wore off after 2 weeks or so. I found if I took it at about 8pm I was nicely sleepy and ready to go to bed by 10pm. And there were no horrible hang over effects in the morning like you get on sleeping tabs like zopiclone.

Thanks for your replies, i'm definitely going to discuss with my doctor.
