I am currently waiting for GP to phone me.

I had an abortion that I didn't want to have I cannot get over it. I can't focus and I have been having very bad thoughts about ending it all.

Can someone tell me what the GP will do, will they take my kids away?

I just want to feel better.

You have done the right thing ringing your GP.
Have you got any other support at hand?

TitsalinaBumSquash · 23/08/2011 13:58

No none. I'm scared, my kids are here.

Oh you poor thing.

They very rarely take children away, unless you are an obvious threat to them. They would much prefer to support and help you to look after your children.

You've done the right thing phoning the GP. Wishing you better.

DialMforMummy · 23/08/2011 14:00

What are you scared about? About your kids being taken away?
I would not overly worry about that, it takes quite a lot for it to happen.
He might call an emergency mental health team.

Lulumama · 23/08/2011 14:00

no, they won't take your children away, not at all. Smile well done for taking the first step to getting help, and i'm sorry things are so desperate for you.

the GP should refer you to the crisis team, you might get a CPN and /or counselling/therapy/meds , if you cannot wait for the GP to call, you can present yourself at A&E

stellarpunk · 23/08/2011 14:02

Oh my dear, I'm so sorry to hear that.

I do think you should speak to your Doctor as it sounds as if you need more support. Doctor's priority is to you, their patient.

You are not harming your kids; being a mother is tough and you need a break. They will understand.

I have some experience with this, please do PM me if you want to talk further.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 23/08/2011 14:03

I'm scared because I feel so bad. Last night I was really calmly writing letter to people and contemplation taking all the pills in my house. I don't want to feel like this anymore.
I don't know who will watch my kids if they admit me.

OP posts:
DialMforMummy · 23/08/2011 14:07

You might not need to be admitted, so don't wind yourself up so much.

DialMforMummy · 23/08/2011 14:08

sorry this last comment did sound harsh, was not meant to come out that way.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 23/08/2011 14:17

No it's ok.

I'm a bit scared that he will just give me antidepressants and tell me to go home.
I don't know if i can wait for them to start working.
I cant sleep or eat.

Worst case scenario you can call NHS direct.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 23/08/2011 14:25

One of my friends dealt with them and he had on the spot counselling and then saw them every day for the following two weeks until his condition settled and then after he had more counselling.

TheOriginalFAB · 23/08/2011 14:32

Is there are reason your children are not safe with you? I am sure they are fine so please don't worry about that.

Anti depressants are medication for an illness in the same way that paracetomol is needed for period pains, headches, etc. You wouldn't suffer with a head ache so don't suffer with depression.

You can get better and things will get easier. Let people help you.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 23/08/2011 14:41

No they are safe, I wouldn't hurt them.

I don't plan to suffer, I just want to know what to expect.

Has the GP phoned you back yet?

madmouse · 23/08/2011 17:03

ADs don't work immediately but there are other drugs that can tide you over for a bit, depending on what your symptoms are.

They will try to avoid admitting you and if they do a solution will be found for your kids, either someone in your family or if needs must emergency foster care (nothing to do with your kids being taken away - there are foster carers who do just that, provide hospital cover!)

OddBoots · 23/08/2011 22:49

I hope the GP called and gave you the right support.

OddBoots · 24/08/2011 20:53

A bit worried that you've not been back, I hope you are okay.

DialMforMummy · 25/08/2011 09:33

Hey! Are you ok?
