When I was taking ADs my GP's advice was not to drink alcohol, but he did say that the odd glass wouldn't hurt. He told me that alcohol can stop the ADs working as well as they should. They also increase the response to alcohol - one drink may end up feeling like more. If you sometimes feel tired or depressed after drinking, then you might feel even more so if you drink when on ads. Alcohol affects serotonin levels in your brain by altering your brain's production of it and so do ADs, so using both together could produce unexpected and unwanted feelings, and could amplify the side-effects of both the ADs and the alcohol.

Some types of Ads react with alcohol, but they are not that commonly used. If yours was one of theseyou would have been told, and it would have clear warnings on pack.

Other types are not dangerous when mixed with (smallamounts of)alcoholon occasions, but irish is right that they are a depressant and therefore likely to feel worseif you drink alot/regularly.
