Sertraline side effects

Hi, I'm on Sertraline 50mg and am suffering from extreme sweating (and I do mean extreme). It's another 2 weeks until my next GP phone-review. Is there anything I can do about it? Or anything my GP can do? Been on Sertraline for about 6 weeks now.

It's not the summer heat, it's every time I do things, like walk anywhere or just clean the bathroom or even doing the washing up. I used to just sweat under my arms, but now it's there as well as between my legs, down my back and front, my face, neck and scalp! Not to mention my hands, feet and behind my knees. It makes me itch, too. It's beginning to get a bit distressing.

I know there are special anti-perspirants you can get for under your arms but I'm pretty sure they aren't to be used on the face, and it's my scalp that's annoying the most, as it makes my hair wet and lank/greasy/stringy looking :(

Anyone else suffering from this? Anyone got any useful advice?

I would go back to your GP as soon as you can. I've been on and off sertraline for the past 15 years or so, works for me but it's not for everyone.

Thanks both of you. I have already had my pills changed once because Fluoxetine gave me diarrhoea and nightmares :( I also didn't think it was really helping me.

Sertraline - apart from the awful sweating - is working brilliantly, so I'm worried that if my GP wants to put me on another set of pills, it'll be like one step forward, 4 steps back....with a new range of side effects and another few weeks settling in. Apart from the sweating, I feel like I'm really starting to get somewhere on the Sertraline. I feel really anxious when I think about having to start from scratch all over again.

I suppose I'm wondering if after 6 weeks, the excessive sweating is ever likely to wear off?

I guess then it's whether your GP can give you something to help with the sweating. I believe, although I could have completely made this up, that is what Botox is actually for.

Also whether it's a side effect that you can live with given the good effect it's having.

I'm not sure it IS a side effect I can live with...I suppose the old saying is true - you can't have your cake and eat it too.

In the meantime if there's anyone else getting the major sweats, I'd still like to hear from you.

Hmmm botox is a bit of a drastic tool to reduce sweating due to ADs. It's a poison that needs to be administered carefully in a surgical environment. My ds has it for cerebral palsy related muscle tone.

I think there are tablets that can be tried as well.
