Fluoxetine and insomnia

hi
I started a 20 mg doe of fluoxetine on monday and since then have had trouble failing asleep and have been waking up in the night and finding it hard to get back to sleep. I take them in the mornings.

Has anyone else had this side effect and has it passed? I'm not keen for this to continue as i feel like a zombie. I have also had headaches and dry mouth but both these are manageable it's the sleep which drives me insane. Previous to this sleep was the one thing I could rely on.

just wondering whether to preserve with the medication or not.

Hi there. On paroxatine, a similar SSRI, I initially found the same thing, but it passed. Give it 3 weeks, and if no better go back to your GP, as something similar but different might be better for you.

Best wishes.

I've been on fluoxetine for about 2 months. I got a few side effects (felt like a zombie, feeling 'heavy' and tired, some motion sickness, some insomnia) but they passed by about week 4.

In my case it's been marvelous, I feel much, much better. I'd persevere with it if you possibly can.

When I went on it first I felt spaced out, then really, really tired, then suddenly really good - I hate to say it, but better than well. That all took two weeks. It also helps me sleep at night, I'd say.

The only other thing I'd mention - and I think i may start a thread on this - is that different generic brands have completely different effects on me:

Almus - I feel joyous, no anxiety at all, a touch sleepy
Medreich - I want to tidy everything within an inch of its life, slightly anxious
Neolabs - as Almus but I need 40mg instead of my normal 20mg
Accord - no anxiety but bored by everything
Milpharm - nightmare

Now Milpharm was the only one I couldn't take at all - it felt like speed. I couldn't eat or sleep and didn't feel good.

I don't know if this has any relevance - I think it's all very individual - but if you were taking Milpharm try another.

oh yes and try taking them in the evening.

Reviving a zombie thread to see if anybody else has experienced this? I'm really suffering at the moment.
