I have a good well paid job with great hours and flexible working but I am so fed up of doing it. I earn more than dh and rely and my salary but wvn the thoughtb of going makes me quiver. I love being at home with dd and hate her going to childminders three days a week (my mum has her 2 days). I am off sick at the moment due to tiredness and sickness in first trimester of 2nd pregnancy but just don't want to return. Was thinking about being a childminder but money is the problem.

Am trying desperately to hang on here till 39 weeks b/c can't afford to go on maternity leave for more than 3 months. I feel your pain, helsi.

I can hang on in there until maternity leave starts as sickness linked to pregnancy does not go towards my sickness levels as such. they are discounted as they are a one off IYKWIM. What I am finding hard is what to do afterwards with 2 children. I really can't see myelf going back to this (civil service) and am hating myself for thinking of money as so important. I have all the stiff to do with childminding so am seriously considering it.

Money does help though doesn't it???

If the sums add up,go for the childminding. I do wonder how people feel though looking after other people's kids at the same time as their own.

Civil Service should offer a career break shouldn't they though?

I'm on a year's maternity leave and two year career break on top of that with the NHS.Can also pay in my pension contributions for this period.

yes I can have a career break through civil service but I would need some form of income as it is without pay and not sure about the rules on working the same hours that I would do for them. Child minding would not reach the amount of salary I am on now but does it matter? The Civil Service are making cut backs and so will look at the offers out there as I have done 14 years so may get a bit of a pay off which might help.

I childminder part time and just wanted to say think about it carefully before you do decide to go for it. I only mind p-t as I feel having my house full 0f other kids isn't always the best thing for my 2 aged 4 and 7. And it's bloody hard work for £2.75 and hour. Also it can get very lonely unless you join all of the childminder groups goung, but I don't fancy that....So sorry to sound negative, but remember to make any decent money you would need to take on a few kids 5 days a week and this'll have a big impact on your kids and your home. I only earn £50 a week, but I know I'd go barmey with my house full of kids all day all week!!

What other things could you maybe work at ?
