Hearing things!

This isn't the first time this has happened, so bear with me.
This morning I woke up and heard a person whistling, sounded like just outside my bedroom door, definetly in the house, I knew that I must have been hearing it and eventually it stopped after what seemed like a good length of time.
This has happened before, its usually a voice or a noise and can happen any time, last time I was in the shower. I usually know its not real and it only happens months apart.
Im under a bit of stress just now and it only seems to happen when im particularly stressed.
Is this anything to worry about or can I just ignore as its infrequent?

I think everyone experiences this sometimes, i would put it down to a trick of the imagination since its infrequent but if you have any other symptoms you are worried about or if happens more often i wold definitely get it checked out.

How much sleep are you getting? I hear things when I'm v tired- usually babies crying, people calling my name etc... it's just the lack of sleep.

Thanks, I hadn't been having much sleep and had totally lost it at someone the day before in the middle of the street Blush which is mostly unlike me.
I guess I was just more stressed than normal.
Glad to hear its not that unusual.

Things like this are definitely not unusual if stressed or very tired....but it's best to take it as a sign that you need to take more care of yourself, get more sleep and deal with whatever is making you stressed.
Our bodies and minds are very clever - they have a variety of ways of making us notice that we need to give ourselves some TLC!

Thanks, I have been waking up during the night on a few occasions as well, maybe a sign that some depression creeping in, I'll keep an eye (ear lol) and give myself some much needed pampering.
Good to hear its not too serious!

I actually have schizophrenia, and I can tell you that what you are experiencing is normal and not a symptom of psychosis like I have! When you first wake up, your brain waves are still in the alpha phase associated with sleep. Normal people hear things when they first wake up and especially in the shower. You may also hear things when you're dropping off to sleep. If you start hearing things all the time or they start being threatening voices or other disturbing sounds that keep you from living a normal life, get checked out.
