Hello TIANC - We seem to have crossed around midnight, sorry. Not surprised you had a quiet day, after worrying about house supports, but it's a shame we were not invited to the piggy performance - old hams indeed!

This teddy is a one-off, a home-dressed Biggles bear complete with flying boots and silk scarf but missing his goggles, which needed research due to Biggles' long career and changes in official design. I discovered that pilots also used their own preferred goggles (none of which were designed for teddies).
Yes, always happy to spend time messing about with glue & scissors.
Had a dark cloud 5ish yesterday, but still no rain and sunny today again.

kizzie · 12/06/2011 15:35

so whats the sensible thing to do when you may be faced with significantly less money in the future...

... go the garden centre and spend lots on lovely flowers for a new little bed Grin

Only annoying thing is its so wet here today that I cant get out to plant them.

Have a good week everyone. snowmash - really hope its one for you with a few steps forward xx

cityhobgoblin · 12/06/2011 15:39

Oh joy , a lovingly restored Biggles bear with authentic accesssories - didn't know that about pilots's goggles . How lovely to make such efforts to
preserve him - little flying boots.

GrinGrinGrin at old hams - wasn't there a good scene in the 60s film of Tom Jones featuring ranting suire and large porcine actor ?

shodatin, there were bonnets in this play too as it was set in early to mid c19th rural area - some of the amateur actors were the same bebonneted country dancers I watched last week . Most are older in years & trouped on cheerily through rain as was performed in a RL historical setting not usually open to the public . You & other lovely thread members certainly were invited ! You would have enjoyed it - must send you a link on Youtube to that little company .
.
Hope TIANC's quiet day yesterday was more pleasant than frustrating , & she's having a lovely Sunday .BrewBrew

All thinking of you , snowmash , & sending positive thoughts . Thanks for Karl Jenkins info shodatin , will enjoy looking it up & expect snowmash has indeed heard some of his work & might enjoy finding more .

Hope kizzie, madmouse & pixie are all well today .

( Surely you've had rain by now , shodatin ? It's been pouring all day here )

cityhobgoblin · 12/06/2011 15:42

Hi kizzie, crossposted - glad you treated yourself to some new plants & everything crossed you won't have to face the financial streses after all .
Hope rain stops for you in time to have a sunny early evening planting session

shodatin · 12/06/2011 18:00

Rain at last! An hour or so of drizzley stuff - will post later

shodatin · 12/06/2011 20:20

Rain has now stopped, but garden should be OK without extra water for a
couple of days, which is a relief after such a long time.

Sounds like an excellent theatrical production hob, particularly with addition of piggies towards end. Hope bonnets were waterproof, and yes, we would have enjoyed it. Nothing like that ever happens in these parts.

This is the right time to buy plants Kizzie, so you did the right thing. If and when redundancy happens will be time enough to make changes, and shortage of money can be solved by either earning more or spending less, but not necessary to worry about it yet, and I hope you're keeping well apart from this.
Hope snowmash is getting better - seems a long time since we heard.

ThisIsANiceCage · 13/06/2011 00:25

Oh how splendiferous, a Biggles bear! Is this for his Sopwith Camel phase, shodatin, or when he's flying Spits and Hurricanes? So glad you've had a little drizzle: hope it heralds a right proper downpour.

Heh heh kizzie, quite right about the new plants. You'll get such pleasure from them, when all around is doom and gloom. Sorry you were thwarted in planting - at least there's no urgency while it's so wet.

hob it would be lovely to see something, if it's easy to find on YouTube - sounds like a wonderful day out, but I hope you didn't get soaked through!

snowmash, I wonder if you're getting the sun or the downpours? Hope you're still getting some outside time despite the latter. And I guess madmouse is sharing similar weather.

There's a warming late-night Brew on the summer house stove for anyone who's up, or passing through. Sleep well all, and wishing us all good days tomorrow.

cityhobgoblin · 13/06/2011 00:26

Am I allowed a "yaaaay" for your rainfall , shodatin? Agree it's a relief not to have to water so much .

Bonnets not vaguely waterproof , unfortunately , but they were determined to enjoy it & they donate all their ticket sales to charity . Sorry , must link you to a clip of them . Hmmm, your part of the world has some fine literary heritage - < off to look up costumed caperings to torment shodatin >

Good advice as ever about kizzie's stressful time , & we're all thinking of her .
Hope TIANC has had a lovely evening & that we all sleep peacefully , especially snowmash*

shodatin · 13/06/2011 11:02

Sorry I couldn't stay awake last night, so missed the Brew. I did get excited over the rain, and it was damp for a bit longer but that's all. Will be asking for volunteers to do a rain dance for East Yorks if no improvement soon, and would of course be interested in any local theatre group (or YouTube).

TIANC, there's an amazing amount of info, patterns, tutorials etc. on suitable goggles, but I chose earlier type as easier to fit on flattish face without obstructing small ears when pushed up on head. Getting lenses a suitable chartreuse green was a real time-waster, but I think he looks happier now.

Another dull morning so will postpone raindance until after trip to town.

kizzie · 13/06/2011 18:04

Flower bed planted - had a day off today. Quite proud of myself Smile.

Glad youve had some rain shodatin.

You all sound so creative - very impressed !!

shodatin · 13/06/2011 23:00

Hi kizzie, I've just wiped a message to you (!) sharing satisfaction of planting - (mine were leeks)- and hope yours are safe from your cat.
I've been putting out a shallow bath for nearly-tame blackbird, hoping it would hang around and notice any nasties like slugs, and today I gave it a surprise present of a nice, ripe, wild strawberry, hoping it would put him off leeklets.

No more rain, unfortunately, but dear friend did watering-in for me.

Hope everyone else enjoyed today, with the weather they wanted, and hope snowmash has a good day tomorrow, if that's still Consultant's day.

ThisIsANiceCage · 14/06/2011 00:27

Ooh, hope the new plants look gorgeous, kizzie. Will your cat be virtuous or does it have garden "issues"?

Glad you've also had a good planting day today, shodatin. Fingers crossed that rain will come tonight. We have scudding clouds across a great shiny moon here - fabulous.

I do love your tame blackbird! In fact I'm jealous, so will spend tomorrow imagining the cybergarden's birds splashing in the Moorish fountain, sunlight sparkling through little diamond drops. Grin I hope madmouse, snowmash and hob can enjoy them too.

Suddenly v tired, so will clink late night Brew with you all, and wish everyone a good night's sleep.

cityhobgoblin · 14/06/2011 01:29

Haven't been able to post today & missed everyone's goodnight as have just got in but I hate having "had" to post on other thread in MH & not having had a chance to read here yet...I worry snowmash will come along & feel insulted Hmm.Am so so silly .

Will read properly & say goodnight before own late bedtime ...bright moon tonight

cityhobgoblin · 14/06/2011 01:29

eek - one "so" too many ( evening did not involve alcohol )

shodatin · 14/06/2011 10:02

Please, hob, don't feel bad about missing anything, I simply forgot to sign off
yesterday but am sure snowmash won't mind. Loved TIANCs post about Moorish fountain in our cybergarden, and sure there will be lots of wild-life around (totally ignored by our various sun-loving cats, of course).

Another super sunny day here, which I can enjoy without watering - lovely!

kizzie · 14/06/2011 14:06

I dont really have cat garden issues - but i do have major slug issues. Have bought a box of that grit which is meant to keep them away so couldnt put lots of that down this evening.

Very sunny here today - so I dont suppose shodatin has had any more rain!

kizzie · 14/06/2011 14:07

'going to' NOT 'couldnt' Confused

shodatin · 14/06/2011 20:39

True, kizzie, another day of sunshine and blue skies, although I'm not really complaining as didn't have to water. So pleased your cat understands about the garden; I don't suppose you could interest it in slug demolition? Agree with you about the little blank-ers, as I'm deliberately limiting my garden to plants which have a good chance against them. My donated lettuce patch has been potted on and will spend the summer in what used to be a sort of cold-frame, (actually an old loaf tray which sits about 1m30 high) as I couldn't bear to let the slugs near it. Please let me know if the grit works, and all best wishes.

And if snowmash is about, I hope it went well for you today.

shodatin · 14/06/2011 23:28

Just to say a "goodnight" to all as eyes want to close.

ThisIsANiceCage · 15/06/2011 00:04

Quick hello and goodnight here.

Lovely sunny day but did far too much - was feeling grotty, and mild physical stuff briefly masks that and is useful and enjoyable, of course. But one pays for one's pleasures, so bed for me too.

Sleep well all.

shodatin · 15/06/2011 09:53

Know just what you mean, TIANC, and hope you manage some rest and recovery today.
Cloudy here, giving us hope for some r-a-i-n, but unreliable as usual. I should start some outside painting, that usually means a weather change....

cityhobgoblin · 15/06/2011 17:30

Afternoon lovely people , as TIANC often says. Sorry yet again for not posting yesterday but was truly overwhelmed - more balanced today & most daysSmile Thank you for the bear repair details a couple of days ago shodatin - still giggling here & wondering what can be used as replacement noses . Has your garden had a shower today or have you had the chance to start your painting ? Excellent improvised cold frame has given me an idea , thank you.

Hope you awoke feeling much better today , TIANC . Another one here who loved your description of birds enjoyng the Moorish fountain etc . Everyone has written such interesting & evocative posts in the last week or two .

Glad your flowerbeds are planted kizzie, & sympathies from me too about the slugs . Dh has used that deterrent grit which I love as not killing anything ,but I worry that the cats will mistake it for dry cat food ( these two might ) .
Heh at cats with "garden issues" ...adored female does like to remind the humans in her life that the ground is for her use by rolling around on the crops < crunch crunch snap >

Hope snowmash is feeling a sense of gradual progress , & that the consultant's round went well this week , as thoughtful shodatin mentioned .

Hope madmouse and pixie are OK ...peaceful thoughts and lemon balm BrewBrewBrewBrew for all . Lunar eclipse soon so hope skies clear.

shodatin · 16/06/2011 00:35

Lemon balm Brew much appreciated hob, also reminder of lunar eclipse.
This evening brought clouds, unfortunately, with few spots of rain and complete obliteration of the moon. Stars hidden for weeks now, a shame.

On subject of bear noses, Mother taught me to darn them on using layers of thickest black wool, and they were always accepted by tearful child - ears were more difficult due to shortage of teddy material (and some of them did indeed look a bit strange). I never imagined that these sewing lessons would be useful in adult life, but the Biggles bear has been much admired.

Shame about cat rolling on crops - good sound effects by the way- my own cat deterrent is small twigs stuck in the ground, so no room to roll or do anything else anti-social.

ThisIsANiceCage · 16/06/2011 01:16

Oh so sorry you've been overwhelmed recently, hob. Hope you're resting and recovering now.

shodatin, thank you so much for saying that. Too much to articulate why (but plenty to think about), but it does help to know I'm not the only one. Completely paradoxical, of course, since I wouldn't wish illness on anyone except David Freud.

Could definitely do with that lemon balm Brew, thanks hob.

shodatin you'd blooming well better get either an eclipse or some serious wet stuff! So unfair to have neither! Start that painting tomorrow! Wink

No eclipse here either, mind you. snowmash, do you get a moon-view from your place? Thinking of you, and trusting you're keeping on keeping on.

In fact thinking of everyone: madmouse, kizzie, Pixie, butterpie, NanaNina, and everyone else who has popped in. Wishing us all a good night's sleep, and good days tomorrow.

ThisIsANiceCage · 16/06/2011 01:17

X-post [world's slowest typer]

Loving all these bear details! But pah! about your rainless clouds.
