I had a psych appointment today. They are talking about me maybe having bi polar. They have started me on this new drug Olanzapine, I've not really heard of this before and wondered if anyone had any experiences of it?

Hope everything works out for you.

What has your doc told you about bi polar. Is it more severe than depression?

Hi memoo I have been on olanzapine. I was told I had a "mood disorder" although not bipolar. It is a mood stabiliser.

I found it made me feel quite slow and "heavy" at first. Esp at higher doses. It can also increase your appetite so they will need to keep an eye on that and how it affects you. Do you know what dose they are talking about? I think the max is 20mg. I took this dose whilst I was in hospital but eventually they reduced it to 5mg which I found more tolerable.

I will be honest with you, I did not like this drug, but one of the ladies I was in the MBU with said it was like a wonder-cure for her. So like all psychiatric medications, they seem to suit some better than others.

Hope you are ok x

Amaru, I've been reading on a bipolar forum that it makes people over eat. Tbh my main priority us to get well, my weight isn't my priority.

Hi getdown, hope things are going well with you. I've been dreading taking it because other anti psychotics I've taken have made me feel awful. Have taken 3 doses so far and don't feel too bad at all. A bit sleepy but that's it. I have felt a bit calmer today only time will tell if it's the meds. Feeling quite positive though
