Is this what you mean? I don't have it all the time, but since I was a child I have had dark nights of the soul - lying in bed in utter dread of death. So many people say they fear the process of dieing, but not being dead. I am the other way round - like Philip Larkin (I think it was) it is the thought of nothingness that puts this fear in me.

Concentrating on the present helps somewhat - on the physical things that tell you you are alive now. Breathing, and especially listening...

Hi ilike. Well, I have bipolar (at least that's the diagnosis), have depression as a default mood, but I actually think that the real problem is undiagnosed Aspergers, with its accompanying executive function deficit. I have great difficulty being organised, doing anything routine or repetitive, and get bored easily. So that makes me depressed and frustrated.

My thinking is often outside the box and I think perhaps that's where the morbid fear of being dead comes from. I've done lots of self help stuff, and also NeuroLinguistic Programming, and recently have been trying to organise self with regard to my Aspergers, with some success. I no longer work, which helps! Nothing I've done has been specifically to do with dealing with this fear, though. It's not a constant with me.

I fear becoming unconscious as well, also sometimes fear going to sleep. It's as if I need to check I'm here all the time!
