Are there any suitable for bf? I am pg and going on meds after the baby is born, will I be able to bf?

Is it lithium? I seem to remember I was not allowed to bf on lithium (although I had actually stopped b/feeding by the time they prescribed it). I think it enters milk in quite high concentrations.

Not sure about the other ones but I suspect they are similar. I know sodium valproate is a big "No No" in pregnancy, and I'd imagine b/feeding too.

There are some ADs you can bf on though. Can you see a perinatal psychiatrist and talk it through with them?

You can take anti convulsion meds, lithium or anti pyscs for bipolar. Calcium channel blockers are the only one I have found which are ok in bf, and help mood stabilise but they are expensive and my pych wont prescribe them Sad when I say expensive I mean very, they are also the only bipolar med without nasty side effects. I will definetly ask to see a perinatal psychiatrist thank you, at the moment we are going to try bf providing I remain stable.

Lithium is ok but baby needs blood tests every month and you need to check for lithium toxicity which I am not happy to do, and they dont like doing this.
