Anyone had any experieice of an ssri which doesn't make you gain weight? I've tried seroxat (gaine 2.5 stone) and citalopram (nearly 1 stone).

I put on 1 & 1/2 stone. Very upsetting. Was worth it though because now I'm better!

Heard that prozac is unlikely to make you gain weight?

think its different for everyone. Citalopram is not particularly known to cause weight gain and I wouldnt reccommend anyone take seroxat for a number of reasons.
If you really struggle with citalopram you could try sertraline? but its not good to keep swapping really

someone aboce said they put on pounds per week with sertraline!!!

well weight gain is not a highly associated side effect of most SSRI's it is noted but more common is weight loss than weight gain. its all individual and also depends on food and diet levels aswell as motivation and exercise levels. You have to weigh up whether to improvements to your mood outweigh the gain in weight and perhaps when your mood is lifted and more stable you can stop the medication and then tackle your weight if it has become an issue

Persnally I did not gain weight on prozac or sertraline.

little miss, different ssris work for different people, often it is a case of trying a few to find out the one that works for you. Personally, I found Prozac spaced me out, Citalopram made life Meh and seroxat has been fantastic. So horses for courses really.

So it is completely fine to keep swapping until you find the one that works best for you.

Yep. Sertraline. Now I'm a right fatty, but then Seroxat gave me serious night sweats and I was so sleepy I couldn't function.

PlasticLentilWeaver · 03/03/2011 13:47

Definitely different for everyone. I completely lost my appetite on sertraline, and lost nearly a stone in about a month. Might not sound huge, but I was only just over 8.5 stone to start with, so a big amount of me!
