Hello all. I've just been prescribed trazodone for anxiety after being on citalopram for nearly 6 months. Anyone have any experience of trazodone? I've never heard of it before. I'm slightly concerned about how groggy it's going to make me feel. Took 50mg last night and slept well but felt tired today. Am to take 100mg tonight for a couple of nights and then up to 150mg. I teach and I'm off for half term this week but I'm worried how it's going to affect my working next week. Would be grateful if any of you have any experience to share

Trazodone is a very common sedative. It does make u ' grogey' as it is a sedative, hence its effectiveness for anxiety. Only u can weigh up how anxious u r and how much u need to be sedated to stop that.

I was on trazodone for about 8 months. It did make me feel very zonked for a week or so but then my body adjusted and it was fine.
The other odd size effect was that it gave me a totally blocked nose for the first few weeks..(I think it actually warns about this on side effects!) which was horrible at night..but that also wore off and then it was a good med:)

I had hideous insomnia and it was brilliant for that.. also when the time came I was able to wean off it ok and still slept .

Hang in there ..it will be a bit doping at first but it settled and personally was a very good medicine:)

Thanks! I've taken it for two nights now and I'm feeling quite ill today. Took 100mg last night at 9pm. Was still awake at 11.30 and was quite relieved that it hadn't just knocked me out. Feel sort of hungover today and keep bursting into tears. I suppose I will be having discontinuation symptoms from stopping the citalopram too. Your post is encouraging Medusa - I can probably cope with a week of zonked! Flojo, I have been really anxious and felt like I needed something sedating to take the edge off so fingers crossed this will do the job. I'm not that thrilled with not being able to have a glass of wine though - did you avoid alcohol completely while you were taking it Medusa?

Day 4! Took 150mg last night. Again, didn't notice any effects straight away. Took at 8pm and Went to sleept 11.30pm. Woke up at 12.30am with very strange pain in my bum!! Back to sleep after half an hour until 10.30 this morning. Have felt really positive today, have done loads of housework. Surely it can't kick in that quickly?
