I have posted this in General Health but thought it may get more responses here. If anyone could help with my thread I'd be very grateful.

I'm a bit scared at the moment and could do with some experiences of this.

hi there I've taken diazepam. It is very good for calming you down when you are very anxious. Imagine the most chilled out and warm and fuzzy you've ever felt.

They are very addictive so use them very sparingly. I only take one if I'm really really bad and haven't had one in ages over a year I think.

The AD will help you longer term.

hope you start feeling much better very soon x

I suffer from depression and anxiety and take diazapam, you can get them in different strength tablets from 2mg upwards, i take 1 5mg tablet a day and it works a treat but i do know people who have abused them and became addicted and had a very hard time coming off them, but if your doctor prescribed them then you should take them as they will deffo help.
If you are taking them for the first time then i would start with the smallest dose ( 2mg) or half a 5mg pill, i dont know which strength you have been prescribed but i wouldnt take a whole 10mg or you might find yourself in lala land, they ease your anxiety and give you a good nights kip.
coming off them is only hard if you are on a large dose and they need to be gradually reduced.

thanks for the replies. I have got the 2mg dose. Will it change how I can function during the day? I mean, will I be tired, in a different world etc!

Just like to add that i take mirtazapine for depression and they kick in right away and i have had no side effects, i dont know much about Paroxetine but if the side effects are right then you probs will need the diazepam to counteract them.

bittersweetvictory · 21/02/2011 16:14

no not with 2mg, you should be able to function normally.

kuckingfunt · 21/02/2011 16:20

he gave me Paroxetine to take but gave me the diazepam because they work immediately - he said to take them just for a few days until the others kick in, so I wont be on them all the time, just the Paroxetine ones after that.

once the paroxetine kicks in you probably wont need the diazepam ( if that is the right meds for you and correct dosage as you sometimes have to try a diffrent type if not working for you ) theres no way you can get addicted to 2mg strength as thats just enough to take the edge off the anxiety.

thanks bitter. I am really nervous about taking my first tablet - isnt that stupid.

'I feel really nervous about taking my first tablet'

That's what I'd expect from me someone suffering from anxiety!

kuckingfunt · 21/02/2011 21:03

That's true nemo, especially as all my anxiety is health related!

yes it is a bit ironic being to anxious to take anxiety medication lol but not stupid if youve never taken them before but the dose you are taking/going to take is really low so you should have no probs.
there arnt really any side effcts either and work within an hour so all good.
