Alcohol withdrawal symptoms?

How much do you have to be drinking to get withdrawal symptoms when stopping drinking? I have been drinking over a bottle of wine every evening for ages and have decided enough is enough. I don't drink during the day but am concerned about suddenly stopping. Does anyone know/have experience of this?

I was drinking the same amount as you until 3 weeks ago. I had mild withdrawal symptoms, feeling achy (like flue), fatigue, restless at nigh. It all lasted for 3 days.

Stopping drinking is the best thing you could do to yourself !

Thank you Ladyboak. I am thinking it is better to stop drinking and feel lousy than continue as I am. I bet you feel great now? I hope I can be as strong-willed as you.

Can I recommand you Allen Carr How to control your alcohol ? It worked wonder on me.

If I can stop, anyone can stop, I promise you. In my worst days I could drink more than one bottle.

I've seen my ex go through this. When she was doing a bottle or so a day then the withdrawal wasn't too bad. Headaches, aches, sleepless nights and a craving for sweet things (wine has a lot of sugar in it). She was over the worst of it in a couple of days although the sleep disruption took a bit longer to resolve.

Drink lots of water and take vitamins - B vitamins in particular. And don't put this off. Drink problems get worse over time.

Completely agree with Snorbs, drinking lucozade helped me as well !

Thank you for your advice. Without wanting to sound flippant, did stopping drinking make you lose weight? This is not my main motivation for giving up alcohol, just wanting an additional reason to give up.

Not the first week as I ate a lot a bit of chocolate but yes I feel less bloated and with more energy. You will lose weight if you stop drinking and will win much much more !

Losing weight was my original reason to stop drinking, otherwise I'd have felt deprived of chocolate. Just check calories involved!

Lucozade helped me too!

If you’re ok throughout the day until your first drink (I.e no shakes, sweating, nausea etc) and don’t find you need a drink to relieve these symptoms then you should be ok but it might be worth reducing over a few days rather than stopping suddenly.
Advice is always to reduce gradually if you are dependent on alcohol to avoid seizures/delerium tremens which can be dangerous.
