prozac not working

iv been on 20mg prozac for 5 weeks now for mild depression and anxiety. for the first 3 weeks i was on a total high although this was probably pscyhological...as the tablets arent meant to "kick in for a few weeks" .
dh had commented i seemed a lot calmer and i noticed i wasnt shouting at kids as much.
i was that focused i managed to lose 1/2 a stone as i was determined to stick to my diet.
now i feel like i did before, have just shouted at kids for no reason and feel like im losing patience again, im at the docs on wed so will see if she will up the dose or try something else..
anyone else experienced this?

I think it's normal to start on a lower dose and increase if necessary. The max dose is partly determined by your weight. And don't expect a 'magic bullet' - it takes time to build up in your system, you might not be aware that it is altering your moods (but others might notice), and you will still have bad days - everyone does! I also believe it acts as an appetite suppressant, so it may help with weight loss :). Good luck Smile

As MacMomo said, it takes a while to build up to its full effect. It sounds like they have started to work as in letting you focus. It may be that you need to wait a little while longer or that you need to up your dose but it is early days yet .

went back to docs today, she said its possible that iv been hormonal lately as i was due on period, also have polysystic ovaries which may make me hormonal , she has kept me on the same dose and said to go back in 6 weeks...

Sounds reasonable; it's not a quick process. Will they treat the ovaries?

zazzabeans · 10/02/2011 16:08

not gonna treat pcos as fertility is not an issue as we already have 3 dcs
my fears are getting worse atm

You stuck to your diet and your dh said you were calmer, these are positive achievements, allow yourself to enjoy them. Remember, getting upset and hormonal is completely normal, it happens to everyone and is something we all have to accept and manage if we can. Nothing will make us perfect people or perfect mothers, don't expect that of yourself. Give it time and go easy on yourself.

I was taking the same dose to start with and like you i felt ok then started slipping back a bit so hey upped me to 40mg she said they could go upo 60mg but didnt want to do that unless i had to cos i have Bipolar and it can trigger mania. Luckily im ok on 40mg, see how you go and ask for a higher dose if you feel you really need it. :)
