Need to know, can I drink alchohol or not? Pharmacist said it says no on the leaflet but I can't see it.Haven't drunk for 5 days (absolute miracle) but would like a couple of glasses of wine with X factor.

Any ideas?

You're not meant to, it is there on the advice somewhere. But I'm on 20mg and have a glass of wine a couple of days a week (inc X factor tonight!) I've been on it for a year, don't think I'd survive if I didn't have a drink now and again!

It does say no alcohol on the leaflet. I did drink a small amount as I didn't know but I don't drink at all now.

It has to be your decision. You will get people saying they drink on them and are fine and others who follow the guidelines.

I have drunk on citalopram before, however, if you've been on it 5 days it probably isn't the best idea. Anti depressants can take up to 6 weeks to settle down, the first few weeks there is a chance they'll make depression worse, and that's not a good time for alcohol.

You need to think about something else to drink. Alcohol is a depressant.

I was on citalopram for 4mths and didn't drink at all as was a bit scared of the side effects - the side effects from the citalopram were bad enough to cope with. It's probably wise to abstain until the meds really start to work. Best thing i found was to drink non alcholic wine and beer as it seemed like I was drinking so i felt i was.

i tucked into chocolates and found that helped

Ps, when I say I've drunk alcohol with citalopram before, this is after a year of citalopram, and I took a lower dose than usual.
