Hi am new here.

I am a mum to four 9,8,7,4 and my youngest started full time school in september. have not worked since having my first and now they are all at school i just feel so lonely and dont know what to do with myself all day. keep sitting down and crying and just thinking about my little girl at school. they have been my life and now i just feel useless.

why not volunteer at the school?

It is a shock when they're all at school to realise that although you may have been looking forward to the free time, the day seems much longer and you feel a little lost at first. I wouldn't rush into a job straightaway as you need time to adjust and then you may start to realise there are a lot of things you could do in the time your children are out of the house.

Although you may be sad for a while, try to think of all the positives of having the extra time. Maybe meeting up with friends for coffee, joining a gym or learning something new. Think of using the time to do something you enjoy. You deserve it after all your hard work with the children.

There are also lots of part-time jobs out there that fit in around school hours. I do care work which I find really rewarding and the hours are very flexible. However you do need to give yourself time to consider what's right for you and remember you're not useless you've been doing an often very difficult job for a long time.

Have lost a lot of confidence too. seems a bit scary going back out in to the real world.

I felt the same after my youngest dd started school. It took me a while to adjust to the new routine.

Just take baby steps at first. Don't do too much and you'll get there x
