Fluoxetine and PMS - any experiences?

Finally went to the gp about my appalling PMS mood swings. She's suggested I try taking 20mg fluoxetine once a day in the two weeks before my period starts. I get ocular migraines so oestrogen patches are not an option.

Does anyone else do this and has it helped?

Thanks!

I took fluoxetine for PND as did some of my friends. They were fantasic and made such a difference.

I also suffer from PMT (could be PMS, it has got much worse) and my doctor suggested I could go back on them as they would help. I didn't as I wanted to get pregnant (which I now am) but I would certainly consider it as an alternative to the awful mood swings.

Thanks DP, did you get any side effects?

No worries about getting pg for me, with four dcs I'm well done on that front!

No side effects at all, I don't think my friends had any either. We all said how good they were at doing their job and I felt sane again! I was on them for 9 months. Came off them slowly and there was no problem at all.
