my ex's dad, grandfather to my children has gone awol, left a suicide note, he has tried it before, he has taken things needed to drown himself and in the way that he promided he would do it, he had nothing with him, they are dredging the canal as we speak. I havent said anything to my kids, they are going to be crushed, i dont know how anyone will ever get over it, its the beginning of everything going horrible. ive got knots in my tummy over it. my eldest starts school tomorrow, how can i tell them. they were with him 2 weeks ago for a week, he was so nice to them.

I sincerely hope that nothing has happened, and it is a false alarm.
However, if your worst fears prove to be founded then there is a charity that specialises in supporting children who have lost a relative through suicide. There is advice on the website that tells you how to explain suicide and depression to children at www.winstonswish.org.uk.

theyve still not found him, but it is a recovery process now, they are not expectiing to find him alive...:(

I'm sorry to hear this.

My dad committed suicide 6 years ago, we just told the children (7 and 4 at the time) that grampy had died. I didn't want to burden them with any further difficult information TBH.

They are a lot older though and think they will ask questions, plus what happens if they dont find him..we cant say he ahs died can we?

He has been found dead, the children have been told but not how, they think it was an accident which I think is best
