Mirtazapine

Hi, I know there have been previous threads with people sharing their experiences of Mirtazapine, but none very recently. I wonder if anyone on it now or who has been on it can recall having a side effect of twitches/jerks in the muscles, especially when trying to relax or sleep? The medication is helping in general (for post natal depression/ anxiety) but the twitches are making me more anxious when they occur, because I keep thinking I have some kind of neurological disease.

Thnaks, anyone who answers!

Hi there thedudesmummy I take mirtazapine.

I've taken it since June 2009. The two other ADs I tried (citalopram and lofepramine) did not agree with me at all.

I found mirtazapine completely different in the way it worked.

It really helped my sleep, I found I was asleep on the sofa by 10pm every night.

I don't recall having muscle twitches at all. Have you checked the leaflet to see if it's on the list of side effects?

How long have you been on it? If you've only just started it, you may find it wears off after a couple of weeks. Most side effects only really last a few weeks.

It is listed in the leaflet as a very rare side effect, which is why I wondered whether anyone else had had hthem. I also have a feeling of weakness in my muscles and body generally the whole day, anyone had that?

I currently take that. I have been for about 2 months now. I use to get muscle twitches, sometimes still do. I use to get really restless legs which tend to kick out on their own. So don't worry. I really freaked out first time it happened as I hated the feeling of not being in control of what my body was doing. But if it's your legs, my friend suggested putting pillows under my feet so my legs are elevated a bit, and that helps. Also that getting frustrated with them don't help either and is best to try and ignore it, although that's easier said than done lol!
