Is there anything more we can do to help my relative?

I don't really want to post about the why's and wherefores incase anyone he knows is on here, but he is suffering debilitating depression and no one seems to be able to get through to him.

He has been dragged to the GP and is on really strong ADs, but they are not working (perhaps because he is still drinking?) he has refused counselling.

As a family we are all really worried about him. Many of the family have offered to have him live with them until he is feeling better. I have told him he can come here whenever he wants for his meals or just for company. He doesn't seem to want anyone's help, just drinking buddies.

Is there anything more we can do to get through to him?

There's nothing much you can do if he chooses to continue drinking. Maybe he has to reach rock bottom first. Tough love seems the best way to deal with alcoholics - you can't rescue and save them.

It's hard for you and the rest of the family to watch him deteriorate like this. If you think he's at risk to himself you would need to report this to your GP - who would refer him to a psychiatrist.
