AD's just sink me further

I was prescribed to take AD's for 12 weeks and I am on my second dose atm but all they seem to do is sink me deeper into depression and make my whole body feel like lead. Anyone else get this?

When you say you're on your second dose, do you mean you've only been on them for two days?

When you first start taking ads, one of the side effects is an increase in your depression. But it's just temporary, and should go away after a week or two. If you've only been on them a couple of days then you just need to give them a little more time. When I was taking Citalopram it took a week or two for the first side-effects to subside, and a couple of months in total for them to have any anti-depressant effect.

If you find that they're still making you feel this way when you've been taking them for a couple of months then go back to the GP - not all ads suit everyone and you may have to try a couple before you find the one that suits you best.

I hope you start to feel better soon.

agree with wigwambam the ADs are not going to have ana affect within a couple of tabs. They tend to take at least 4-6 wks to get into your system so why you are only being prescribed them for 12wks is a bit of a mystery. They can not tell before you have taken ads how long you will need them for. IT is also very common to feel a bit worse before you feel better mainly because people tend to think once they start taking them they will feel better but ADs are a buffer not a solution which is why most people are offered counselling etc to go with taking the Ads.

Hope you get some better help from your gp
good luck

then it may be time for them to reconsider your tabs. I know I had to try 4 different types before I found the right ones for me. Even then I had to wait until they were on the maximum dose allowed before I felt any benefit.

Agree you should go back and see the GP. Not every ad suits every person, this one may just not be the right one for you. Or you may need to have your dose adjusted.
