Alcohol and citalopram??

I've been taking citalopram for 4 weeks now. I've got a summer party coming up in 2 weeks. Will I be safe to drink??

I've been on citalopram for a while now and have drank on it a few times. I was on 30mg. Wouldn't suggest drinking too much though due to alcohol being a depressant.

I drank on Citalopram. It's probably best to just have a couple as ADs can change how alcohol affects you.

Can anyone give experiences of the effects it can cause as it's a black tie/ ball gown, sit down 3 course meal do followed by allnight party so will be quite a drunken affair and one me and hubby have been looking forward to for a long time, so would like to let my hair down and enjoy ourselves as we have no kids for the night???

I really wouldn't, as someone else has said alcohol is a depressant. To my shame I ended up having an ambulance called for me the one time I drank while on citalopram and they said it was down to the medication as I'd only had 2 glasses of wine

It's different for everyone. Citalopram had no effect on me at all however, I drank on Mirtazapine and it made me feel extremely pissed after 1 vodka lemonade. I chanced 2 once and it was hard to walk straight never mind think straight!

It's not just about the mental/emotional effect, though I agree alcohol is a depresssant and you might get drunk quicker.

The combination of an anti-depressant and alcohol is pretty hard on the body, particularly the kidneys. When in hospital (and on citalopram) I was told firmly any more than an occasional one drink would be a very bad idea.

I didn't know that about kidneys EC. Why is that? I thought the liver processed meds and alcohol?

i had 2 bottles of wine to myself last night and I'm on 20mg of Citalopram.

I have a mouth like Ghnadis flip flop but other than that I'm fine

I've had a couple of cans of cider or a couple of glasses of wine of a night with no effect so far, I don't find alcohol a depressant as I'm suffering from post natal depression so the chance to get out and let my hair down is a good thing for me at the mo.
