Thanks for link to thread @Clearingaspace
Ive not lost much over last few month ..but...over 3 week period i lost 9lb , on a fast few days a week .then eating normally for 2 week (so body doesn't think im starving it)!. I start again monday on the fast. I put on 1lb through eating the 2 week but hopefully will lose more when fasting again. Xx

HarpQuartet · 09/08/2024 06:23

Thank you @Clearingaspace and hi @Loubelle70

July was a bit disappointing - I knew work was going to be stressful but I didn't predict how far off course that would send me.

Today: 77.6kg

Goals for August: get below 77kg and stay there. IF for 16+ hours at least 5 times a week. Continue running, try again with pilates and/or strength training.

I can't think of any "treat" thing, which is a bit sad! My brain slipped back into its old habit in July (treat = crisps and chocolate) and is still half there, so I'll look out for something creative to do.

PurBal · 09/08/2024 06:36

Can I join please?
Pre baby weight was 65kg. Would be happy to get to 70kg.
Currently 84.8kg. I’ve started a new job that provides a cooked lunch (with pudding) everyday and I’ve struggled to resist!
Big IF / Keto fan. And loved this pre children. Even like an extended fast (2-3 days).

Clearingaspace · 09/08/2024 08:35

welcome @PurBal 🤗 sounds like fasting will be perfect for you

@HarpQuartet well done keeping on during a tough work month. I hope @loveyouradvice finds us as she is great with the self care motivation - I need that too!

hi @Loubelle70 I really like the idea of on off fasting that’s amazing to end up 8lb down!

I think in the end I lost approx 3lb over July as I am backdown to 179.5 happy enough with that after a mini holiday!

sw 204
lw 182 something
cw 179.5

Am I on the right thread now? I think 6 hours on motorways may have fried my brain. Will do a proper check in tomorrow once I can see the damage from my week away.
I am going to add sea swimming as a non food treat, though I fear it will be next year before I enjoy that again.

Clearingaspace · 09/08/2024 21:58

@ItRainsItPours yes correct thread! 6 hours gah - but sounds like you had a good time?!

imperialqueen · 12/08/2024 12:41

I would love to join this thread. I haven't read any of the previous ones.

I want to get down to 10 and half stone for the end of September as I have a weekend in Krakov to look forward to the.

Too scared to weigh myself but think I am about 11 and a half. I want to do 2 or 3 36 hour fasts a week. (Been inspired by another thread on here). Did my only one so far on Thursday into Friday and I felt fine. Trying again today.

I also want to increase my steps to at least 7000 a day (my step count is so low). I will then think about increasing exercise if I can manage this for a month.

Think my self care will be my nice walks, admiring nature and listening to an audio book.

Clearingaspace · 12/08/2024 14:26

@imperialqueen Fantastic self care options!

would you mind linking to the thread, it sounds interesting!

is it worth trying just one 36 fast a week for now to see if that is enogh at first then building up to two or three a week if you need to? Good luck though - apparently 36 hours is very effective for weightloss. I have switched what I am doing now and currently eating 3 x a day, but would to include maybe one 36 a month for the autophagy and weightloss boost.

Can I join too please. Am feeling so flabby and out of control and want to get back in the zone. I'm also at about 11.8 I reckon and would like to get back into the 10's as a starting point. Am going to try and do 5:2 for now I think.
Managed to come in at just under 900 yesterday. Am having a normal day today. Aiming to do 600 tomorrow. Breaking back in a bit gently..

donedreaming · 12/08/2024 16:51

I'd like to join too!

I am a long time Mumsnet lurker and also IF fan. It worked really well for me about 8/9 years ago but once I stopped the one day a week maintenance and lost our dear dog so no morning walks it's crept back up. Shortly off on holiday for a fortnight and then September is action time. I was 11.6 this morning and looking to get back to 10.5

Here I am then for my first Mumsnet post and joining in! I'm hoping that a little bit of chat and tips and I can get back to a healthy weight.

ItRainsItPours · 12/08/2024 18:10

I weighed in this morning and have lost the weight I gained last week on holiday. Not keen on this hot weather, very difficult to sleep but I guess it’s better then the relentless rain of earlier this year.

Clearingaspace · 12/08/2024 21:37

Wow that was quick @ItRainsItPours well done!

welcome @AnnieLewis - great to have your first fast under your belt!

@donedreaming welcome I love your name!

I started off well today but then went totally off plan and feel yuk! Hopefully tomorrow will be better and I won’t self sabotage. I think a label of planning has tripped me up.

Me20176 · 13/08/2024 06:32

I’d like to join please. 10st 8 this morning. Want to lose a stone. Trying the 5-2 diet for the first time from today…not sure how I will survive! A total fast feels beyond me right now. I can’t image 36 hours!

AnnieLewis · 13/08/2024 09:12

It's just getting back in the zone for me and not getting distracted by shiny new diets/eating plans. When I get into IF it's the only thing that's actually worked at dropping the weight!

My longest was about 56 hours I think - actually not too bad once you get past the initial confusion of not having to think about food and what to eat today...

ItRainsItPours · 13/08/2024 14:37

I agree @AnnieLewis about the freedom of not thinking about food whilst fasting. When away on holiday I was able to swerve food I might otherwise have eaten in the morning. I only fast for up to 20 hours but try to do it everyday.

Fouramclub · 13/08/2024 22:33

hello! I'm joining too! I am 74kg (after a disastrous few months of no fasting and eating whatever I want) but the aim is to get to 67kg at some point in time!

I am currently at my parents house with the kids and they have all sorts of nice snacks which is not helping but I am on track for a 16hr fast if I can refrain from eating until midday tomorrow!

Does anyone else suffer from reflux when they fast/do 5:2??

HarpQuartet · 14/08/2024 07:24

Hello @Fouramclub and hello everyone joining. I don't get acid reflux but do get an upset tummy when I eat rubbish, which you'd think might make me think twice sometimes, but no. Made the mistake of not brushing my teeth after dinner last night and about 9pm remembered I had some chocolate. What a silly goose! Really need to do better. I'm close to getting back on track.

ItRainsItPours · 14/08/2024 07:35

I don’t get reflux when fasting but do drink lots of water in that window. We have talked before on this thread about water putting out the fire of hunger, but it might also stop your stomach being too empty from an acid point of view.

AnnieLewis · 14/08/2024 11:08

Morning all, am having a FD today instead. Am going to aim for 600..
have weighed myself properly this morning:

SW - 11.6st
GW - 10 st

Slightly less than I thought as a Start Weight so that's cheered me up 😄

Good luck anyone fasting today, bit cooler here so am doing a massive spring clean today as the kids/H are out

Clearingaspace · 14/08/2024 14:11

That’s fab @AnnieLewis sounds like it will be a productive day all round!

great that you are getting back on track @HarpQuartet I am still struggling a bit as have started eating wheat and having milk again

@Fouramclub i get reflux when fasting it doesn’t keep getting worse though, I think I have read that it happens at a certain point of fasting maybe 14 hours but not 100% sure, but doesn’t get worse with extended fasting so maybe that’s why it’s more noticeable on 5:2? I can usually ignore it and tbf my indigestion is worse when I am eating too much too 🤪

@ItRainsItPours thats sounds a very liberating feeling swerving unhelpful food on holiday - I hope I can get to that point - in general I can but if I have given myself permission because I am on holiday it’s a lot harder - especially if food is included!

good luck all fasting today

ItRainsItPours · 14/08/2024 14:28

@Clearingaspace delay don’t deny, I had plenty of local ice cream and cakes in my window.

Clearingaspace · 14/08/2024 14:54

Need to practice that mantra!

HarpQuartet · 16/08/2024 06:09

Morning all, and for those of us who share on a Friday, my news is that I'm exactly the same weight as last week. I seem to be able to offset overeating by keeping it to a short window, so at least I'm not putting on weight. But obviously the overeating is something I need to get back under control.

Going to a sound bath tonight and will set an intention to befriend myself again and check what I really need, what's missing that I try and either replace or stuff down with food.

ItRainsItPours · 16/08/2024 06:41

I am a lb down in August which I’m happy with as having dc off school always throws a spanner in the works. Looking forward to the last two weeks of the school holidays and hoping to maintain or lose a small amount.

Clearingaspace · 16/08/2024 08:23

i need to Google soundbath @HarpQuartet - hope you enjoyed.

Well done @ItRainsItPours on maintaining. I have another week off with dc before they go back and am looking forward to it.

I am up a couple of lbs - summer holidays definitely making it a bit more tricky - although I am working from home mostly. I was on track for a small loss but I had a nice evening out at cinema with my dc yesterday with snacks and wine (for me!) and then some late night toast when we got back and the scale has jumped 3lbs!
