I'm no expert but I have been doing Intermittent Fasting (IF) since September and I've lost 9kg/ a stone.

I eat breakfast at 7:30, lunch and the tea at 4. So my eating window is finished by 4:30pm. So it's a 9 hour eating window and 15 hours of fasting.

I haven't read any books about it but I do listen to podcasts about it.

I don't know anyone in real life who does IF so thought there would be a community here.

I’m still weighing almost every day, still trending down, though slower this week. Still progress from my stall a few weeks ago though and I did go to the cheese monger and buy some delicious cheese. I also started a weights class this week. I was a wreck yesterday evening, and still achy today!

@user1496146479 It depends. A gummy sweet type vitamin I’d say would break a fast, a tablet probably not. Also depends on why you’re fasting. For weight loss, I doubt it would make much difference if any, but for the health benefits of autophagy then it might have a small impact. But I know what you mean about being able to consistently take medication before bed, and that’s when I take all my medication because I consistently remember then, so I’d probably do the same thing.

Rowdythree · 22/03/2024 10:24

0.5kg down for me, slow and steady is fine by me. I'm going on holiday in 10 weeks, so if this weight loss is consistent, I'll be 5kg lighter which is a nice thought.

Generally, I definitely have a lot more energy since starting fasting, and for that I'm grateful!

OctopusRule · 22/03/2024 12:37

Hi all well done for the weight lost! Still not weighed myself but going from clothes and how they feel - much more comfortable and loose, so I take that. Might jump on the scales tomorrow but I am cautious as it messes with my mood so much that it can be counterproductive as it can lead me to saying ‘fuck it what’s the point’ then Reaching for bread and crisps!!!

Been IF this week with mostly 16:8 but one 20:4.

Had a break today as have a terrible cold and felt like I needed some energy. Going to do a longer one tomorrow though if feeling better.

Food wise lots of veg and fruit and protein.

@pippablackwell
Thank you! Yes doing The IF for weight loss!

NewYearNewYu · 22/03/2024 14:54

I’ve lost 1lb over the last two weeks. I would like to lose a bit more quickly so will try to iron out the odd days where I’m overindulging. I’ve stuck to the fasting hours though, so my eating window is between 4 and 6 hours each day.

brickday · 22/03/2024 16:15

Wow I tried black coffee this morning instead of white and my tummy didn't rumble all day! Literal black magic.

BobbleHatDay · 22/03/2024 17:22

I'm still here and sticking with 16hour fast during the week and usually less at weekends. Don't think I've lost much over the last week (scales rubbish at seeing small differences) but definitely haven't gained and as I've had some stress related unhealthy evenings - I'm calling it a win.

Usually I'd be worried about that study, but it definitely didn't seem to take into account a lot of things, think I read it didn't record smoking status for example (might be wrong about that - week has been crazy!)

NatureGlimmers · 24/03/2024 13:05

Hi all, and well done everyone on your successes. I just weighed in and put on 0.2kg/0.4lb which means I've put on 0.5kg this month so far which is a bit depressing. This is my 16th week of IF. I fast for about 19-20 hours a day and I don't eat any ultra processed food so the childish voice in me feels it's a bit unfair! I have a lot of weight left to lose as well. But it's not the end of the month yet so there's still time for it to turn around, and I have to remember all the other positives of IF which are just as important: 2 long term chronic conditions have cleared up/really improved, loads more energy and more free time!

Rowdythree · 26/03/2024 09:49

I've really been struggling this week, I've felt absolutely famished. I'm not sure if it's hormonal as it's my monthly cycle, but I cannot manage my normal 17/18 hour fast this week 😕 I'm going to listen to my body though and not try and force it

Rowdythree · 29/03/2024 09:05

Is anyone else weighing in today? I have put on 0.1kg which is not surprising after how much I have struggled this week. I'll be fasting today, but over the Easter weekend who knows.

Hope everyone else has had a good week

pippablackwell · 29/03/2024 11:06

I’m still weighing in every day, which works for me. A small loss this week.

Not sure what’s going to happen to fasting this weekend. I’ve just had a hot cross bun and a milky tea, and we have DH’s friends over this weekend so while I’ll try to stick to 12 hour eating windows, who knows what will happen.

loveyouradvice · 29/03/2024 18:32

I'm at 11.9 so just a 2lb lose over March, but happy with that as had a planned birthday indulgence and then an unplanned binge/excessive social eating... so feel very relieved to have shed the pounds that leapt on last week.

Also celebrating being just 7lbs off target - I'm tall and curvy - so need to keep reminding myself of that.. of how good it feels and that I really really want this, the joy of wearing favourite clothes again with confidence... when confronted by Easter choc... Yup, you little Lindt bunnies Im looking at you: you look so innocent but......

Good luck to all as we brave the Easter weekend - what are your strategies??

NewYearNewYu · 29/03/2024 19:39

I’ve lost 5llbs in March, but I had a glass of wine tonight, will be out all day tomorrow eating out and have a family meal on Sunday. Will have to cross everything and hope I end the month with a decent loss.

OctopusRule · 29/03/2024 20:18

@Rowdythree - I’ve also struggle this week! Had various stressors and been out of routine so caved a few times in the morning.

What I realise is if I go out of routine for whatever reason I cave in, but when it’s just a normal week I can do it a lot easier. Makes it harder over BHs!!!

brightpompoms · 30/03/2024 06:26

@Buntyforgirls 3 days a week I do a fast from 4:30pm-7:30am
And 2 days a week I do 4:30pm-12noon.
Weekends are a bit more all over the place so I'd eat later in the evening or drink wine if I'm out.
I'm m try a new role of no drinking wine at home.

brightpompoms · 30/03/2024 06:32

@user1496146479 @pippablackwell taking medication is a r ear l issue for me now I fast. I just can't consistently remember to do it and I never used to be like that.

@Rowdythree 0.5kg is a great loss. A huge amount.

@brickday totally agree about coffee. I couldn't manage without it

brightpompoms · 30/03/2024 06:39

I have had losses and gains over the last fortnight but overall it's a small loss and basically just maintaining around the target. I'd have to starve to get smaller than I am and I do not want that.

I just need to tick over now. What is amazing that even on the weekends it doesn't even occur to me to snack in the evenings now. Evening snacking was my life before. I'd put the babies to bed and be thinking to myself what can I eat next? i deserve a snack. Now snacking doesn't exist

brickday · 31/03/2024 22:14

Anyone else struggling over this weekend? 😬

HairScratcher · 31/03/2024 22:20

Yes!!

NewYearNewYu · 31/03/2024 22:23

I have not had a good day, but I was just one day. Our house is completely upside down while we wait for new carpet in one room, so no where comfortable to sit and we can’t access our cooker. We have eaten out then came home to all the Easter eggs 😣
It won’t get any better for a few days either. Oh well, I’ll get back on the wagon when the dust settles. The min eggs are particularly nice this year.

Rowdythree · 31/03/2024 22:48

brickday · 31/03/2024 22:14

Anyone else struggling over this weekend? 😬

Yes! I've not even attempted to fast, We've had lots of social engagements and a family birthday tomorrow so it will be at least Tuesday before I get back to normal.

I hope everyone has had a lovely Easter! One saving grace was that I didn't get an Easter egg so no chocolate for me (although, lots of other tasty treats 😁)

brickday · 01/04/2024 09:52

The chocolatiest weekend has also coincided with my period so willpower has definitely been low 😆
Will get back to it tomorrow.

NatureGlimmers · 01/04/2024 13:38

I lost 0.6kg/1.3lb last week so after a few up and down weeks I am ending the month about 0.3kg down on the start of the month. Not a great monthly loss (have been averaging over 2kg a month so far) but still a loss. Haven't got round to doing monthly measurements yet. Think I'll probably try and change things up this month to speed up weight loss but I haven't decided which thing to try, either some longer fasts, or cutting out refined sugar or RBD oils.

Rowdythree · 02/04/2024 11:51

I'm back on track today after over indulging at the weekend, the scales were up slightly from last time I weighed in, but less than I was at the beginning of March so I am calling that a win!

I would love to lose 2kg in April

NewYearNewYu · 02/04/2024 12:50

I feel back on track today as I managed not to eat yet. I also feel I have had my fill of Easter eggs and hot cross buns so will leave the rest for the dc. House is still upside down but things are progressing and we should be able to put furniture back later this afternoon. You forget how important having a fully functioning kitchen and comfortable place to eat are.
