Please help me. I've done this diet before, lost a stone or so but gradually put most of it back on.

I'm starting today and need company/ motivation etc.

Anyone want to join me?

1.1 kg down this week. That's 2.4lb.

How's everyone else doing?

Whichcatthatcat · 13/02/2022 10:16

Sorry, name change fail.

I'm not holding out much hope this week. I feel I've eaten a lot and was out for lunch yesterday. It was a taster menu so the courses were tiny portions but I did have an irn bru cocktail so don't even want to think about how many calories were in that!!
Well done on your loss!

Whichcatthatcat · 13/02/2022 13:07

You never know, plump, it might not be as bad as you think.
On a slightly different note, Irn bru cocktail! I must say I hope it tastes better than it sounds!!!

It was fantastic! Not sure of actual ingredients but was delicious!
Sayitisnotso · 13/02/2022 14:16

Just was through this thread and gave me some inspiration as you’re doing so well !👏🏻👏🏻 Had first fast day yesterday, was grand but already today I feel like Iv eaten way more than a “ normal” day😩
Would love to lose 1-2lbs a week as have least 3 stone to lose.
Did 5:2 pre kids and worked great so will see how I get on this time!

Rodedooda · 13/02/2022 14:19

I got below the 80kg mark for the first time in 2 years yesterday, but then blew it with ice cream and pizza last night.

The ice cream tasted so sickly but I still finished it, I blame the covid sore throat Confused

I noticed my DD didn't finish hers, she's naturally very slim and this is why..,

Well done everyone. I just wanted to post to give you a bit of insight from a long timer (ish). At the end of March it will be a 1 year since I started my IF journey.
I eat between 12 and 6 only and I am low carb aswell. To date I have lost 5 1/2 stone.
Some tips that I found work for me.
1 - low carb- high fat - moderate protein
Carbs spike your blood sugars and that is what gives you the hunger pangs. I never feel hungry. All my carbs come from green salad and veg. Fats like coconut oil, avocado, oily fish are your go to for helping to keep you full and lean protein fish, chicken etc again will fill you right up. If you are struggling with hunger pangs all this really helps.
2- clean/dirty fast. This is really divisive in the IF community you will got lots of posters absolutely adamant that any thing other than water or black coffee will break your fast. For me I gave up so much but the one thing I couldn't give up was my morning cuppa. I have reduced the amount of tea I drink drastically but I still have 2 cups (sometimes 3) before I break my fast. I use soya milk instead of cows milk. The rest of the time I drink herbal teas.
3 - The scales is not your friend! I say this as someone who still weighs themselves every morning and evening. It's an addiction that I can't seem to stop. But I have seen trends over the past year. Weight loss is not linear. Sometimes it might look like you are not losing anything for a few weeks and then all of a sudden you will have a woosh loss, other times its slow and steady. Generally during the week it will fluctuate up and down, don't get downcast by this just record your weight on a weekly basis (or even monthly) you will see the difference. Your clothes are a much better indicator of how well you are doing.
4-Walk- I've literally walked a ton of my weight off. And I've noticed how much easier it has become over the last year. I really struggled with hills to begin with and got tired and achey really quickly. I can now walk longer and faster than ever before it's great! And I can get up steep hills without having to stop to look at the scenery lol.
5- Remember this is a way of life and not a diet. Diets fail for 1 of 2 reasons mostly. 1 - they are too restrictive and therefore unsustainable and 2 - you hit goal weight and go straight back to how you used to eat (I know, I've been there). Fasting is going to be my life now. I will up my calories when I get to my goal weight and reintroduce a few sneaky carbs here and there but otherwise I aim to continue.
6 - Allow yourself a treat. My real treat is a chocolate brownie every Saturday. I look forward to it and it tastes so good for not having treats usually.

I hope that has helped a bit. You will smash this!

Wow that's a great result Astrid! Thanks for the tips too Star

Plump82 · 14/02/2022 10:58

Excellent tips there. And I'm glad to see I'm doing some of them already so hopefully in a path to success!

2.2lbs off for me this week and 3 cms round my waist. Really chuffed with that!

KnottyKnitting · 16/02/2022 08:35

Hello all. Can I join you?
I have been doing 16: 8 for about 4 weeks having had some success with 5:2 in the past but just can't hack being totally starving which I usually am on FDs.

Some days I manage 18:6. I have had the odd day where I eat more still need to drink less but have finally got my sugar addiction under control and am starting to exercise a bit more ( which is pretty hard for me as I have arthritis and rubbish knees!) I have approached this more like a way of life rather than a "diet" which psychologically seems to suit me better.

I am really beginning to feel the benefits with clothes being looser and very pleased to find I am already 10lbs down! Generally have soup or a sandwich at lunch, a small pack of crisps and a piece of fruit. I have pretty much given up snacking. Then a healthy meal in the evening. I do have milk in my tea during fast times but like it strong so it doesn't amount to much. Occasional takeaway and meal out but don't see this as being "naughty." And if I have a day where I eat a bit more I don't see that as an excuse to " start again next Monday " and fall into a binge cycle which I have done pretty much my whole life.

I have a general idea of calories but not counting the obsessively because I know I am in deficit.

My main motivation for this is real problems with my knees ( meniscus tears and arthritis) My pain has been a bit less in the last week but still suffer with it throughout the day. Being able to walk with less pain is very motivating- every twinge I get, stops me reaching for the biscuit box!

My aim is to get to 10stone 10 as this puts me just into the healthy weight category but ideally I would like to be a little lower than this. Still have just over 2 stone to go but looking for slow and steady so don't anticipate this being quick and don't see the final weight as a time where I "give up" the diet. In it for the long haul!

Whichcatthatcat · 18/02/2022 20:38

How's everyone getting on? I only managed 13 hours today.
Work was very stressful and someone gave me biscuits. I really need to learn to say no.

I started this in October and have lost 6Kg and got my BMI from 31 to 29. I don't eat breakfast or anything until I finish work. I do have a latte at about 1pm Big dinner with lots of protien and veg. Fruit plus something carby and delicious for pudding an hour or so later. Honestly I don't fel hungry during the day so it's an easy way to lose. I feel really full and satisfied after dinner/ pudding and my calorie intake is about 11-1300 a day. If I keep it up I'll be in normal weight range by next October.

Do you work from home? I do the same as you and don't eat till I've finished work which I find relatively easy but I don't think I'll manage very well if I'm ever needed back in the office.
womaninatightspot · 18/02/2022 21:31

@Plump82

No I work at a hotel. If I worked at home I'd be in the fridge all the time :) It's good in a way as there is no lift so I'm often moving around/ up and down stairs. My fitbit only ever buzzes at the weekend to tell me to move around.

I think once you've trained yourself not to eat until a certain point you just get used to it. I feel really bloated if I have brunch at the weekend so I try and stick with the same routine.

Whichcatthatcat · 19/02/2022 08:24

I've just ordered a step counter, because I know my exercise levels are very low.

We are not allowed smart watches at work, so I've found one that is just a normal watch that also counts steps.
I bet I do less than 5000 a day, but hopefully once I can measure it properly I can improve on that.

Hello all - I'm still here and plugging away! I'm on day 39 and lost a total of 9lbs so far. I'm 2.5lb away from entering a healthy BMI, and 6.5lb away from my first goal weight.

I had a week where the scale just didn't seem to move, but then slipped down a couple of lbs. I'm weighing almost every morning because it keeps me focused and motivated.

I feel that I have lost some weight, although no one else seems to have noticed so far! 😂

I do need to up my walking but with 8mo DS, it's hard. We live literally in the middle of nowhere and our country lanes are quite dodgy to walk around. I do 5000 steps on average a day around the house. I think I'm going to try to add in a 15 minute HIIT on YouTube if DS will tolerate me doing that!

Whichcatthatcat · 19/02/2022 13:06

Well done, donkey, you are nearly there.

Keep going, you should feel so proud of yourself.
Im on day 27, will weigh tomorrow and put it here

Plump82 · 19/02/2022 14:34

I'm on Day 34. Weighing in on Monday. Clothes are definitely feeling looser and I can see it on my face. Less than a month till my holidays so would like to well over the 1.5 stone loss. I think this might be a bit ambitious!! I also think I need to up the excercise.

Whichcatthatcat · 20/02/2022 07:44

A very disappointing 0.5lb off this week.
Total so far, 4 weeks, 2.3kg (5lb)

I feel like in getting nowhere. I hear of people losing half a stone in 2 weeks.
I have at least 5 stone to go.

Actually I just checked, I need to lose 9.7stone to get to a healthy bmi.
I don't think I can do this.

OP posts:
Whichcatthatcat · 20/02/2022 07:48

No I don't. 9 st 7 I'd what I beed to be, not how much I need to lose! I need to lose 6 stone.

Still not sure I can

OP posts:
Plump82 · 20/02/2022 08:42

@whichcatthatcat yes you can! You are doing it. You've lost 5lbs. That's better than nothing.
Im around the same as you for what I need to lose. I'm not aiming for anywhere near the lower end of healthy weight as I need to give myself a realistic goal and figure any weight loss is going to make me feel better and get me healthier. The women in my family all have big bums and boobs. Ill never be 9stone.
Keep at it. This might just be a blip. I've heard of the half a stone in 2 weeks as well and honestly don't know how they did it. I don't think it's wise to compare yourself.

donkeyhottie · 20/02/2022 10:14

Please don't be disheartened @Whichcatthatcat I think losing weight is the hardest thing to do on the planet (well, it is for me!) and 5lb is such an achievement. I also think slow and steady is a much healthier and sustainable approach to weight loss. It's such hard work though, I completely understand the wish to see immediate results, but I'm trying to see this as a new way of being.

You'll thank yourself in a few months time of you keep plugging away.

donkeyhottie · 20/02/2022 10:17

I agree @Plump82 I can't get to anywhere near the lower end of my BMI range. My body shape and composition just can't tolerate it. I'm aiming for about 24.
