Please help me. I've done this diet before, lost a stone or so but gradually put most of it back on.

I'm starting today and need company/ motivation etc.

Anyone want to join me?

I don't drink much but when I do, it then leads to pizza and crisps!

Ilikecheeseontoast · 13/06/2022 11:14

yes me! Am starting today. I need a cup of tea with soy milk first thing though or I can’t function!

Rodedooda · 13/06/2022 11:28

Well done on the losses! I've not lost any more that where I was a couple weeks ago, after my blip, so im hoping next week is an actual loss.

Alcohol is no good for me either, o van just about stop at one, two or more and I'm a disaster on the carb front the next day!

I have a cup of tea or coffee before I officially break my fast and it doesn't seem to be doing me any harm

losingit31 · 14/06/2022 07:00

I'm rethinking the concept of having an 'official' weigh in day - I started last Tuesday but today I am 0.6lbs heavier than I was yesterday and back to where I was last Thursday!!

Maybe just an overall downward trend is enough, no need to think about weekly milestones if they're just going to be irritating. I'll focus on the 3.2lbs that actually went.

Whichcatthatcat · 15/06/2022 22:42

I had a terrible day today, food wise.
I think if I write it here it might prevent me doing it again.
I successfully managed a 17hour fast, then blew it massively.
For lunch I had a baguette, and a cake and a banana Then in the afternoon 2 biscuits, and after a reasonable diner I had half a pack of angel delight.

So more carbs and sugar than I should eat in a week!!!

@whichcatthatcat I also had a pretty bad day. I ate a whole bag of candy kitten jelly sweets. I'm feeling really stressed just now with stuff going on and unfortunately I'm an emotional eater. I have a bar of Galaxy calling my name but have so far managed to resist!!
@losingit31 I find this too and can become a bit obsessed with weighing myself. But for consistency's I'm sticking with official weight on a Monday morning for tracking.

applecharlotte12 · 28/06/2022 17:15

Hi - is anyone experiencing really slow weight loss with 16:8? I started on 23rd April and have stuck to my eating window - I started at 11st 2lb and would like to get to 10 stone. I have also in the last month stopped drinking (due to a bad bout of Covid mostly!) however I've only lost 5lbs in total!

I am approaching fasting as a lifestyle and def feeling other benefits (less joint pain, no afternoon slumps etc) but wondered if my experience is shared at all? Maybe I need to add in a couple of 20:4's (eek!)? I'm in my 40's and know my metabolism is slowing down!

Plump82 · 28/06/2022 20:05

Between end of Jan and mid April I lost 2 stone so found it good going. Now I seem to be losing and gaining the same 3lbs each week and it's incredibly frustrating.

Fuzzyduckduckyfuzz · 28/06/2022 21:53

Hi everyone I've just started 16:8. Been reading all of your posts you're all doing really well.

I so hope that this is going to work for me I lost 34lbs calorie counting but I just cannot do it anymore it's such a chore

applecharlotte12 · 28/06/2022 22:14

@Plump82 two stone is an amazing achievement! Have you changed anything since mid april?

applecharlotte12 · 28/06/2022 22:17

@Fuzzyduckduckyfuzz 34lb is also incredible - good luck with 16:8. I know what you mean about calorie counting, it takes up so much mental energy. I have to say I love the simplicity of 16:8 and I don't get hungry until just before the 16th hour. Saving time in the morning but having breakfast too.

I decided to lose weight for my 40th. My birthday was mid April so I think once I turned 40 it was a mind set thing.
However I'm looking likely to have lost weight 2 weeks in a row again so fingers crossed I'm back on it!!

Charbead49 · 01/07/2022 12:37

I've lost 8 pounds in 3 weeks. Feels slow but I am going from 146lbs which is within my BMI so wondering if dramatic weight loss doesn't happen at that point?

I want to get to 130lbs

Plump82 · 11/07/2022 10:47

How's everyone getting on. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for getting me out of this rut.
So disheartened to weigh myself this morning to find I've gained. Now it's only 0.22lbs but I walked over 10k steps each night last week and did a ton of walking on Saturday then nearly 20k yesterday. So I can't imagine how much I could have potentially put on if I hadn't been doing all that walking. I'm still eating the same way I did when I lost my 2 stone at the beginning of the year but since May this has been a really hard slog and I'm really not enjoying how it's making me feel. I have a trip in September and I was so hoping to get another 2 stone off but that seems very unlikely now. Doubt I'll even shift 1 stone.

mumlikeaboss · 11/07/2022 14:45

Anyone still on here? I'd like to join in the cheering on 🤩🤩 I LOVE fasting!

@Rodedooda so pleased to find another Gin Stephens fan - she is awesome and I recommend everyone reads her book and/or listens to her podcast. She's super down to earth but really clued up on the science and why it works, so I really trust all her advice.

mumlikeaboss · 11/07/2022 15:06

@Plump82 you've done so well. What sort of IF schedule do you follow now?

Also bear in mind all sorts of things can make fasting feel harder - stress can have a huge impact for example. It helps to recognise that and have patience with yourself even though it is super frustrating when it "doesn't seem to be working".

A little bit of context from me... I started fasting November 2020 so over 18 months ago and have done it ever since. Started off 16:8 and have played around with window lengths along the way - I can now happily do up to 24 hours without it feeling hard but it took time to build up to that. And honestly, occasionally I still have a bad day and only make it to 13 🤣🤣 But once you've accepted it as a lifestyle, you realise it doesn't matter if you 'mess up' every now and then.

I lost 50lbs or so in the first 9 months, and then pretty much plateaued and bounced up and down 5 or 10lbs since then! But I haven't calorie-counted or restricted anything (done too many diets to EVER want to count anything ever again).

Recently I've been playing around with ADF (Alternate Day Fasting) so a full fast for 36-42 hours and that actually feels great so I'm going to carry on with that for a while and see if I can shift a bit more weight - I feel pretty good but realistically could lose another 40-50lbs.

Also on this, Plump, how would you feel about trying to cut out the milk in your tea/coffee during the fast?

I know calorie-wise it is negligible, but scientifically I believe even a tiny amount of any food or drink can wake up your digestive system and make you STARVING hungry, which obviously then means it's so much harder to fast.

If you have a little listen to some of Gin Stephens' podcast episodes on 'Intermittent Fasting Stories', there's some super motivating and interesting content - and a lot of people swear by how much easier fasting is when you switch to just black tea/coffee and nothing with calories or sweeteners in.

I know it's frustrating because lots of people say they get away with having a few calories here and there, but if it becomes too much of a crutch I think it can slow down your progress.

Rooting for you, because I think fasting is super achievable and amazing for pretty much everyone 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

Plump82 · 11/07/2022 16:13

I do have a cup of tea before i break my fast with milk so I'll cut that out from tomorrow to see if it makes a difference.

Plump82 · 11/07/2022 16:20

Thing is I'm not struggling to fast and I'm keeping within my 8 hours. And what I do eat are healthy choices so I'm not sure what's changed.

mumlikeaboss · 11/07/2022 17:01

Ah that is frustrating then isn't it. V sympathetic.

Are you up for increasing the fast / decreasing your eating window? Not everyone finds 16:8 to be the magical place for weight loss, and maybe you need to scale it back to 18:6 or something?

Or on the flip side, maybe you need to make sure you're eating more?! I've never had this problem, lol, but I think some people end up being super strict about trying to create a calorie-deficit and end up overdoing it - and that can have the effect of making their bodies hang onto fat rather than burning it. Your body needs to be sure there is a plentiful supply of food coming in when you do eat, in order for it to feel safe and comfortable letting go of excess stored fat.

Baseline is that you're doing tonnes of good for your body with those 16 hours of fasting every day 💪🏻💪🏻 so keep on keeping on, and fingers crossed the weight loss will fall into place at some point!!

Fuzzyduckduckyfuzz · 11/07/2022 18:07

Is the walking new @Plump82 ? Could it be that you are actually converting to muscle if you've introduced a new exercise regime. I remember a few years ago I started Zumba and never lost any weight but completely changed shape

Fuzzyduckduckyfuzz · 11/07/2022 18:09

I'm just over 2 weeks in and I've lost 6.2lbs which I am over the moon about as I've not really changed what I'm eating much I just know when I have to stop

I do go walking but not as much as I have last week. I dont feel I'm walking at a pace where I'd be building up muscle tbh.

Heartcare · 11/07/2022 21:20

Hi everyone, I'd also like to join if poss. Just got back from holiday and spotted some pretty horrendous pictures of me due to weight gain over the last year or two. Looking to lose 40ish lbs.

I've been fasting for 19 hours for the last 4 days and finding it easier than I imagined (but isn't everything when you're only 4 days in!) Evenings are my issue for snacking/grazing so hoping being strict on times will help.

@Plump82 sorry you're having a rough time - would you say you're eating the same amount roughly as the weight you were previously? Just wondering if now you've lost so much weight, you actually need to eat less during the non fasting window? Just a thought but I'm very new to this!
