Please help me. I've done this diet before, lost a stone or so but gradually put most of it back on.

I'm starting today and need company/ motivation etc.

Anyone want to join me?

I managed 0.6lb off last week. Not the best but glad it wasn't the opposite way. This good weather just makes you want ice cream and wine!! I started off yesterday well and went for long walk. Hopefully today is the same.

Whichcatthatcat · 07/06/2022 07:20

Good luck,

Just started today. Had a brandy 9pm last night. Going to eat first meal at 12. Have about 20 lbs to lose.

Whichcatthatcat · 07/06/2022 13:27

Welcome Charbead49, and good luck. Keep posting here, it does help.

Thank you.
Was fine on one black coffee until 12 today. Had to finish fast just before 8pm to do DC bedtime 🙄. Think I will have a tea before bed.

SergeiL · 08/06/2022 18:17

@Charbead49 I am ‘dirty’ fasting so am having tea, coffee and low cal drinks during the fast. I think I would struggle without. Having read up on it, there doesn’t seem to be loads of difference to pure fasting. So enjoy your cuppa!

Charbead49 · 08/06/2022 18:44

Good! Cannot drink black tea and it's getting me through the evening. I would usually have two glasses of wine

What are people eating during the window, I'm finding I'm a bit carb heavy at the moment but not sure if it matters?

Rodedooda · 08/06/2022 21:40

welcome newbies 😁

I'm trying to up my protein & fill up
on veggies, but family dinners always include carbs so can't avoid them completely. I'm also eating fruit & full fat yogurt.

I thought I would never be a black tea or coffee drinker but I enjoy both now, and I regularly manage 20/21 hours fasting. It's just social occasions and holidays where I fall down a bit!

SergeiL · 09/06/2022 10:02

I am trying to low carb in my eating window and hoping for a double whammy of fasting and low carbing. I was really fed up though last night and had some wine with dinner and some rice! Back on the fasting today and feel ok despite the lapse.

losingit31 · 09/06/2022 10:10

Hi, I'd like to join you please. I started 16:8 on Tuesday having used 5:2 very successfully about ten years ago. I used IF last year pre-holiday but since then my weight has crept up and every time I hit a new high, there's another new high a week or two later!

I'm going through a really difficult time at the moment which has influenced my food choices. I feel like I need to take control of the parts of my life that I can control, and that includes making better food choices. I'm plant based so need to get the balance right and minimise the junk (especially biscuits - they are so easy to eat and eat!)

My aim is to lose 2st 3lb and I'm pleased to say the 3lbs has gone already! I know it will slow down but my early success is helping me to feel positive.

I’m a bit confused about 16:8. Can it be as simple as skipping breakfast?

I often don’t eat breakfast anyway (apart from a coffee). Then eat at around 11/12. My problem is that I then eat into the evening.

So is it as simple as choosing 12-8 as my non fasting hours?

Plump82 · 09/06/2022 11:01

Yep you can chose when you want to eat. Basically a time that suits you. For me I break my fast at 2pm. I aim for one meal a day now and that works for me. But before and after my meal I'll have fruit with a small amount of peanut butter and a protein yogurt.

16:8 is a good start, but unless you're low carbing during your eating window you may find weight loss is slow (though I understand there are lots of health benefits to fasting aside from weight loss).

The discipline of stopping at 8 is good too!

I generally do between 18:6 and 21:3 now, with some flexibility when required.

HappyCup · 09/06/2022 13:42

Interesting. Thanks @Plump82 & @Rodedooda

My main aim is to feel better (and not snack into the night). I’m also upping my veg and fruit intake by a lot so I’ll start from here and see where to take it after.

Rodedooda · 10/06/2022 08:15

Scale numbers back to pre-break level, first time I've had red on the happy scale graph since starting. Really pleased it's not taken much to get back on track.

Amazing!! Well done!

Iv lost a pound in 3 days. Is that good? All the chat about the fasting I was kinda expecting to wake up half a stone down 😃

Plump82 · 10/06/2022 10:02

That's really good. I didn't even lose that in a week last week.

That is good, don't expect fast loss.

I'm 20 pounds down in as many weeks, but I know i could push it harder if I wanted to, I feel I've got a good balance of eating well and gradually losing weight without feeling im depriving myself!

Charbead49 · 10/06/2022 15:34

Thank you, good to know!

losingit31 · 12/06/2022 12:07

I still haven't finished my first week yet - Tuesday morning weigh in will see what has happened so far. I weigh daily and so far it's gone -1.4, -1.6, -0.4, same, -0.2, so a total of 3.6lbs so far. I hope the rate will be faster than the last three days as we have just booked a trip to the Maldives in December!

@Rodedooda a pound a week will do for me - well done!

Plump82 · 13/06/2022 08:43

Thrilled that I managed to shift 2.8lbs last week. Amazing what not drinking any alcohol can do!

losingit31 · 13/06/2022 08:58

Well done @Plump82 that's great. I already don't drink alcohol so can't use that solution.

Another 0.2lbs for me today - weekly weigh in tomorrow. I'd really like yet another 0.2 to make 4lbs altogether but more would be even nicer!
