3 Day Water Fast

Inforthelonghaul · 28/04/2019 20:45

Has anyone done a 3 day water fast? I need something to kickstart me having gained almost a stone in a short period and I’m thinking that just totally excluding food for a period would be easier than trying to be good. I’ve always been better at cold turkey than just cutting down and have done shorter taste in the past.

I would probably still have about 3 cups of tea a day and just water the rest of the time. Planning to start after dinner tomorrow evening and then have a light dinner on Thursday evening. Just interested to see if anyone else does or has done this and how it went?

I keep trying! Longest I've got to is 46 hours. I've watched a lot on YouTube and have the zero fasting app. I'm going to try again. Maybe we could do it together and keep each other going?

Inforthelonghaul · 28/04/2019 21:02

Well timefora I’m planning on starting tomorrow night and will eat dinner at 6. Happy to update how I’m coping. I really don’t think 3 days is that long and am interested to see how it feels, if I could lose a few pounds too that would definitely be a bonus.

I’ve not heard of an app and I haven’t watched anything on YouTube so might do that too.

I've also put on half a stone v quickly. I'm in, I'll start tomorrow too and post on here how I'm doing 😊

I watched a YouTube video today about a 7 days water fast but I'm going away Friday for a family celebration.
I will join you for the three day one and start in the morning. Is herbal tea allowed or only water....I know fizzy and caffeinated drinks are not allowed. I'm excited that this could be something really good. Everything I've watched today says how great you feel after three days.

Makemedoit · 28/04/2019 22:35

Hadnt heard of this but may join you!

Tweedy I don’t know much about this tbh and hadn’t realised it was such a recognised thing I just figured it was long enough to make a difference but not so long it’s detrimental to health.

I know it’s a water fast but I will still have the odd cup of tea (with milk) as I can’t face the day without a cuppa or two. I figure that the small amount of milk involved will not make a huge difference.

It would be amazing to lose half a stone quickly and I’m just curious about how not eating for a relatively short period can potentially have such positive effects on health.

Morning all!
I'm an early bird, up and had a glass of water already, brushed my teeth and taking a large bottle of water out with me for school
run, dr appointment and car service.
Good luck to you all today. May the water force be with you Wink

Inforthelonghaul · 29/04/2019 08:03

Good luck Tweedy I’ve been up for a couple of hours and had a cup of tea. I’m not hungry this morning at all so think I might start now and eat Thursday morning (is it just me or does that sound a long way off). I’m going to have another cup of tea and then try and just have water all day, at least one big glass an hour. Feeling positive right now - hope it lasts. Everything I’ve read says at some point it will get very hard but hoping that’s more than halfway through so that it’s doable. I’m motivated by the coming heatwave and the fact that right now my summer clothes are all too tight to be comfortable.

3 days - bring it on!

have you looked at 5:2?
sustainable and healthy for most.

Tweedypie · 29/04/2019 08:13

Inforthelonghaul
Yes I'm
Amazingly positive too, also all my summer wardrobe is way too tight. I must remember how tight and uncomfortable my clothes are when I get some hunger pangs later.

Inforthelonghaul · 29/04/2019 09:22

green I have done 5:2 in the past and sometimes combined it with low carbing which works well. I introduced carbs back into my diet a month or so ago for various reasons and since then have just gained weight. I need a good kick start to get me going again. I don’t want to stop eating carbs but I need to learn to regulate my eating and weight again. It’s nice to feel hungry again though, on low carb I just never wanted to eat so meals were never a pleasure. It’s hard combining that with family meals and encouraging DC to eat a varied diet.

I probably will continue longer term with 5:2 or maybe 16:8 but we’ll see what happens.

For now I’m nicely peckish and keeping busy to avoid thinking about food too much.

Ok I’ve actually just skipped breakfast so far and now I’m just thinking about food - Thursday seems a very long way off .

OP posts:
Tweedypie · 29/04/2019 11:42

Yes I'm the same, I'm hoping to get to 4/5pm before feeling awful.....I drink lots of Diet Pepsi and juice usually too so feeling a bit headachey right now and Thursday seems terribly far away.

timefora · 29/04/2019 14:49

Well done.

@Inforthelonghaul technically if you've skipped breakfast your fast started from the night before last time you ate, so you'd be about 18hours or so in? And you could eat Wednesday night

I'm starting tonight at 6.

@Tweedypie if you start getting a headache try adding a bit of salt to your water. That's what I've read anyway

Inforthelonghaul · 29/04/2019 14:55

OMG timefora you’re right I hadn’t thought of that! That’s brilliant and now I feel much happier though still bloody starving.

OP posts:
Inforthelonghaul · 29/04/2019 14:56

I wondered if drinking warm bovril might be ok to replace salts too as I happen to have some in my cupboard.

Tweedypie · 29/04/2019 15:15

I ate late last night, but that's a very good point re start of the fast.
I did read raw veg / fruit is best to eat after the three days on water only.
Im feeling ok now, but we are creeping toward kids home from school and snacking time......that's usually a bad time for me. Might try plain boiling water.....as will take a while to drink.

diggitydamn · 29/04/2019 15:17

I'm fasting til Friday. I've done a few 7 day fasts previously and actually it gets easier after day 3 if you want to push it a bit longer. The hardest part is finding things to do when you'd normally be cooking/eating/food shopping.

If you feel headachey/tired/nauseous, add some electrolytes to your water (salt mainly but potassium and magnesium are also important).

You'll probably see quite big losses, but expect to gain back at least half over a couple of days when you start eating again (although if you go straight into keto/low carb you might not regain as much).

Inforthelonghaul · 29/04/2019 15:45

That’s slightly depressing diggity but I guess if I can keep a few pounds off it’s a good start. 7 days though - that’s hardcore! I’m not sure I could keep feeding everyone else and not eat anything for a whole week.

Having milk in your tea absolutely affects fasting so honestly there is no point doing 36 hours.
Google autophagy.

Tweedypie · 29/04/2019 16:39

Im on the fizzy water and planning to make dinner for the kids that I don't like, hoping it helps me get through dinnertime. I'm
Tired too so planning to be in bed for 9pm.

timefora · 29/04/2019 19:58

How's everyone getting on?

I'm only 4 and 1/2 hours in, the kids are all in bed so I'm planning on an early night. Not hungry now but I know what's coming tomorrow, really hoping for the 72 hours this time. My longest was 46 hours. When it gets tough I'm going to break down my day into 30 minute sections and just say to myself not to eat for the next 30 minutes and then repeat the process. Fingers crossed it will work.

Tweedypie · 29/04/2019 20:19

Good plan timeflora.
I was struggling about 6, ok now and going to have an early night too.
Im hoping the feel good factor kicks in tomorrow morning to help keep me going. I will probably do a sneaky weigh in too hoping for motivation.
