3 Day Water Fast

Inforthelonghaul · 28/04/2019 20:45

Has anyone done a 3 day water fast? I need something to kickstart me having gained almost a stone in a short period and I’m thinking that just totally excluding food for a period would be easier than trying to be good. I’ve always been better at cold turkey than just cutting down and have done shorter taste in the past.

I would probably still have about 3 cups of tea a day and just water the rest of the time. Planning to start after dinner tomorrow evening and then have a light dinner on Thursday evening. Just interested to see if anyone else does or has done this and how it went?

I survived the night ok and definitely hungrier than usual this morning. Rather depressingly though I’ve actually gained half a pound Shockhow is that even possible

Morning, I don't normally eat until 10, I'm ok now, but will be struggling then I'm sure.

I think @Inforthelonghaul that your body is like wtf is going on so holding on everything. Keep drinking water and it will flush out. Do you feel ok?

Tweedypie · 30/04/2019 07:28

I did ok once I was in bed, I read and then slept ok, I've a light headache going on and I'm hungry. Trying to take it hour by hour. Not sure whether to take paracetamol for the headache or not...

timefora · 30/04/2019 07:31

@Tweedypie are yours caffeine withdrawal headaches? I've got one now, it's horrible but soldering on.

Tweedypie · 30/04/2019 07:38

Timeflora
It probably is.....I did t think of that thought it was the hunger, I drink lots of fizzy drinks usually so that too.

timefora · 30/04/2019 08:05

I drink an awful lot of Diet Coke. I'm hoping this WF will help me kick the habit.

Tweedypie · 30/04/2019 10:57

Im really struggling now, got a headache and looking longingly at a banana !

timefora · 30/04/2019 11:05

You already know what a banana tastes like you can eat it soon. Just not now, stay strong. It's hard isn't it.

I'm ok at the minute but not as far in as you. Made the kids snack plates and it's never looked so tasty!!

Tweedypie · 30/04/2019 12:32

Careful to throw the kids leftovers away instantly, I'd find that v tempting

timefora · 30/04/2019 14:01

Just made them lunch and I'm feeling ok actually feeling good

Tweedypie · 30/04/2019 14:33

I feel awful gone beyond hunger it's pure headache and chills feeling....must be caffeine and sugar withdrawal

BrightSpells · 30/04/2019 15:01

Guys... this is so silly. Eat.

timefora · 30/04/2019 15:08

@Tweedypie listen to your body. If you need to stop, stop. Can always start again another day

timefora · 30/04/2019 15:10

@BrightSpells it really isn't silly. Has many health benefits. Please do some research.

Tweedypie · 30/04/2019 18:21

I think it's the fizzy drinks withdrawal making me feel so ill, couple of months ago I gave up Diet Pepsi and felt like this with a headache for a couple of days.
I've just had a couple of carrotts and some hummus and will turn the rest of the week into a 5/2 fast using these past two days as fast days.
It's tough but aside from the headache I'm ok....

Tweedypie · 30/04/2019 18:22

It was a good first go.
I shall try again but for just 24 hours and build up after I've done that a couple of times.

Inforthelonghaul · 30/04/2019 18:30

I failed miserably and ate at lunchtime. I was feeling really poorly and discombobulated and just thought today is not the day for this. Will try again tomorrow I think.

I'm hanging in there, strangely enough I don't feel hungry.

Frankel9 · 01/05/2019 11:15

Hi timefora, how are you doing? Still fasting? How are you feeling? I have never water fasted but I do think there are health benefits in a short fast so wanted to say I don't think you are daft Smile.

timefora · 01/05/2019 14:30

Hi, I broke it at 42 hours, lunch time. This was my second try at 3 day fast. I really wanted to reach autophagy but I'll try again next week. Thanks @Frankel9 x

Inforthelonghaul · 02/05/2019 07:00

timefora I need to read up about autophagy, I think that’s the cells rebuilding themselves but isn’t it? I’m not sure that would have happened for me anyway as I still had a couple of cups of tea.

I’m going to do IF for a couple of weeks then try again. I’ve also gone strictly low carb again as I think it was more the fact that I’d been eating quite carbs foods that a) made me gain weight and b) feel so awful when I stopped.

I will be trying again in a week or two though so will keep an eye out for you.

OP posts:
timefora · 02/05/2019 12:57

That's exactly what autophagy is. I really want to reap the benefits from it. I'm also doing IF until next week when I'll try doing 3 days again. I had a meal yesterday lunch and haven't eaten since. Just making a big lunch now and that will be me until tomorrow.

cyclingmad · 07/05/2019 21:57

You only reach autophagy after 48-72hrs s o you need to do at least 7 days on a water fast. That is if you are someone who isn't already in ketosis or intermittment fasting at which point you reach autophagy much quicker.

I have done a 20day water fast successfully. It was hard going and 20 days is my body's limit. That was a one off and I now intermittment fast (23:1 because it suits my life). I do a 14 days water fast 3 times a year now.

Did learn how much willpower I have though and if I really put my mind to it I can do anything.
