Hi is anyone doing this? What's it like?

I'm 67 and 5ft 7 and was shocked to find that i weighed in at 13 stone today. I'm healthy apart from Ibs and reflux, I'm not diabetic although I do seem to be quite sensitive to sugar - it can affect my sleep and I tend to get hyper or energy slumps. Will this diet suit me.?

I've a tendency to follow diets for about a month then react against them and rebound. The upshot is that I'm still overweight - no surprise there! I need a long term plan that I can make part of my life. I worry that my mum has Alzheimer's even though all the evidence I've seen says it's not hereditary

I contributed to MM webchat today and I’ve been reading his replies. I've bought the book today as well

I've quickly checked out tonight www.thefast800 site and am wondering whether to sign up for the 12 week programme - have any of you signed up? Is it good? Is it worth it?

Hi
Don't know about the paid 12 week programme but lots of people following the book and variations of previous MM diets. If you ask on that thread you may get an answer and will definitely get support in following this way of eating. You can find us here

I started the Fast800 on Monday (14th) and have gone from 73kg to 69kg when I weighed in this morning.

I'm also attempting the 16:8 fasting bit - I tend to finish eating by 6pm and then have breakfast at 10 the following morning, which means I'm not that hungry at lunchtime.

Still very new to it, but am encouraged by the early results and the last couple of days have certainly been easier.

OhMrTumnus · 19/01/2019 09:16

Ps - have only bought the book rather than signing up.

The recipes are pretty good and I tinker with them a bit to suit my tastes but within keeping with 800 cals.

I feel motivated enough at the moment because I've seen a change but I guess we'll see over time if I can keep it up!

I have tried many diets in the past (not this one though) and I always fail. Or lose weight to just put it back on again.

I now use MyFitnessPal ap - free to download (although I now pay a fee to get helpful articles and extra bits and bobs) and this is amazing!! It sorta changes your way of thinking rather than dieting, so I personally have a 1500cal target and map out my protine/fat/carbs according to how active I am. I love it because if my allowance allows I can still have a small chocolate bar, or a meal out with friends but I am always full - somthing I have never been with a standard diet.

I don’t work on commission although I sound like I do I’m just so impressed and wish I found this sooner. You can also scan in your food with a barcode to track what your eating Smile

I joined the online programme and am just entering my third week. So far I quite like it, you get a weekly meal plan and shopping list. Unfortunately it plans for three meals a day and I do 16:8 so I don’t eat the breakfasts. But there’s a lot of recipes in there that you can chop and change.

There’s also an exercise programme with videos for planned resistance workouts and audio for HIIT workouts. Next week the “mindfulness” part starts and I don’t know yet what that comprises.

The forums are not too busy and there’s lots of contributions from Fast800 staff to offer help and advice.

I think there’s more they could do as part of the online plan but they seem willing to listen to suggestions so hopefully more things will come online as it develops.

So, so far, so good. I must admit I’m also still using the Lose It app to track calories and macros. But I think it’s worth it so far for the meal plans, shopping list and exercise plan. But ask me again in 9 weeks when it’s over!

Thepearofwisdom · 22/01/2019 21:09

I've signed up and programme proper starts on Monday. I signed up mostly for meal plans and shopping lists as I know from previous weight loss attempts that this is what I start to struggle with after a few weeks.

I bought the book so have been following for a week already and have lost 6lbs, which I'm happy with Smile

Thepearofwisdom · 22/01/2019 21:10

And... I'm not hungry! Which is a revelation and not something I would have thought possible on 800 calories a day.

craftykamo · 23/01/2019 09:14

I’m now almost three weeks done, more than 5kg lighter and 5cm off my waist, also not feeling too hungry, which is a bit disconcerting when you consider how few calories I’m eating. Though today I had an unbearable craving for coffee and cake in Costa. I decided to walk away instead but it was really hard!

Thepearofwisdom · 23/01/2019 09:47

Wow 5kg, go you! I weigh again on Monday, can I come back and let you know how it goes? Good to have support.

Well done for resisting the cake hard I know.

craftykamo · 31/01/2019 13:09

How’s it going? I’m another kilo down, if I can continue losing 1kg a week I’ll be thrilled because I’ve always lost weight incredibly slowly on other plans. Tonight I had my breakfast for “pudding” - banana pancakes, which were really banana omelettes. They were tasty but far too sweet! It’s amazing how my tastebuds have changed just over a few weeks of doing this. I’ve felt like I’ve over eaten today - but according to LoseIt I’m still under 900 calories!

Intohellbutstayingstrong · 09/02/2019 07:26

Feeling frustrated. Just done 5 days and haven't lost a single pound. Have been meticulous to. Any ideas? Is it possible I have lost weight but it is not showing up on scales? clutching at straws

GhostBustersFavouriteMum · 20/02/2019 18:04

Started this Monday too. Just bought the book on gplay. Lost a few pounds already. The 14:10 is certainly a n important part to weight loss I think.

Heppo · 29/02/2020 19:15

I paid £99 for the 12 week online plan last June. However, I didn’t start straight away because of holidays and work. By the time I got round to starting, the program had expired. I thought the content would be there for a year hence the hefty fee. I was robbed. Just buy the book and do exercises on YouTube as the fitness element of the online plan looked rubbish.
