ponygirlcurtis I have 2 books - one with all the info in and then a recipe book. I think the big recipe book is pretty accurate but the little info book less so. There’s a lot of ‘handful’ of this etc in the little book. I think MM must have the hands of a baby as my calculations are always waaaay over... I usually found this out AFTER eating it too. Having said that there’s some lovely ideas. I’ve not done any of the actual meal plans though... just used recipes I’ve fancied.
MFP can also give very different values depending on the brand of food so if you’re able to scan that often ends up easier and more accurate.

Hi all
In the grand scheme of things, oblomov, 65g isn't really that high at all. I would also wonder about the tomato sauce - though it is surprising how green veg can stack up.

I found the same as snowglobes with the recipe book being more on target re: macros and calorie counts than the small general diet guide book. I also found there are some shockingly wrong counts (and some typos and errors) in MFP - I'd agree if something looks intuitively wrong, check the brand and check comparisons to make sure there's not an error in the entry.

PhyllisWig · 14/05/2018 16:23

Madness I've just hopefully come out of a plateau. Are you drinking enough? Are you pooing? Could you drop carbs a touch?

Mine lasted 2 weeks and was massively annoying. Keep on ploughing through though.

ponygirlcurtis · 14/05/2018 16:30

Arf at MM having the hands of a baby Grin
I did wonder if some of the calorie estimations seemed a bit light. For the portobello toast thing I used the exact cal counts from the packets for the weight of what I used (mushrooms, pine nuts, feta cheese). Will carry on logging with MFP to keep me in right, might get the recipe book too.

Lunch today:
Half bag of salad, half bag of smoked salmon trimmings, 100g cottage cheese, 5g of walnuts, tiny bit of salsa from a jar for flavour. Alpro plain yoghurt with some blueberries. 399cals. I never have breakfast so I can have a decent lunch.
Dinner will be cauli rice and harissa chicken (bought not made, couldn't find the paste in Aldi), plus will add more veg, around 300cals so I have a bit to play around with.

veryveryquietly · 14/05/2018 18:08

Very long day, have completely blown my cals allotment for the day and haven't even had dinner yet. Guess it will be a salad-ish dinner.

Need to plan some real meals this week, as I'm getting a little bored again with the food I know how to make. Too much chicken, too much salad. Time to shake things up.

ChocEggNoThanks · 14/05/2018 18:33

Another arf at Babyhands Mosely! It was a STS on the scales this morning and yep I need to be ChipsNoThanks. I did only eat half of them which is a miracle in itself. It would never have occurred to me to stop before! Am also declining all buns and cakes in work - I just don't want them the same.

I seem to always come in around 900cals rather than 800. Week 4. Who would have thought I'd make it this far?! Not me, that's for sure!

Welcome all newbies, there are lots of us have only started recently so you're in good company.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/05/2018 18:45

I’m ending on 985 cals, 57g carbs, 14k steps (no run today).

I started the day with some yoghurt, for a change as I don’t normally eat breakfast, then had salad with coronation chicken and cheese, then dinner was chilli stuffed pepper with salad. All delicious. A little bit cals/carbs heavy but nothing too terrible. I’ve drink gallons of water as now it’s totm I need to flush out some of this water retention!

Here’s my lunch and dinner!

Well, I blew it some more. Had light dinner, added some dessert, and then some chocolate turned into a lot of chocolate. I'm telling myself I'm still well under my TDEE and it's only natural I'll blow things occasionally, but I am very annoyed with myself, plus more than slightly nauseous. Bleah.

At least there's no more chocolate in the cabinet, so there will be no more straying for the foreseeable. And tomorrow is another day and all that.

Whine whine whine.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 14/05/2018 20:14

Well day 2 and did so well until there was a food tasting thing and I ate some cake and biscuits! Not too much though.

I’m hungry tonight. I had some carbs at lunch and that was it. Dinner was fish and veg but feel hungry now.

PrimalLass · 14/05/2018 21:43

I'm hungry too. This is probably the lowest I've managed but I might have to have some cheese or something before bed.

PrimalLass · 15/05/2018 06:58

Back down 2lb this morning, so at my lowest point again. Must not mess it up this time.

B: boiled eggs
L: tuna salad or a burger and salad
D: cauli rice and something

ChocEggNoThanks · 15/05/2018 07:32

Well done Primal. I think major blow outs do really break the flow on this diet. My weight loss was great and rapid before the bank holiday weekend but now it's crawling. Another 1lb off this morning so 13lbs total but I'm only 3lbs lower than I was before bank holiday weekend. What is changing is my body shape. My waist is much more defined - noticed last night and this morning, there's a definite hour glass thing going on! Maybe losing lots of bad abdominal fat.

So people just starting do take your measurements. I forgot to but others found it encouraging when their weight loss slowed or plateaued.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/05/2018 07:49

Well done primal, great loss. I think both plateaus and big fluctuations are quite common on this plan (on any low carb plan actually) due to the whole fat cell/glycogen reserves/water thing that goes on. I’ll admit to not fully understanding it, but I’m reading Fat Chance at the moment and it explains it in good detail. But basically glycogen molecules also hold a molecule of water, as soon as you eat carbs as a one off (or the wrong type) your body not only holds the weight of those carbs but also additional water. Which is why we can gain 3lb on a big night out but lose it a day later.

I agree with choc about the measurements. I didn’t do mine but I do know I was wearing uncomfortable size 12’s at the beginning of January and I’m now wearing well fitting 10’s. All my summer clothes that I literally couldn’t wear last year are really well fitting now (especially shorts) and I actually think I may be heading towards an 8 on the top because the arm holes of some tops are gaping a lot. I’ve sold a lot but have kept the nicer, bigger stuff in the loft just in case by next year I’m back at that size! It’s so amazing to suddenly have choice of what to wear. It’s the biggest change I wasn’t expecting actually, and it’s really improving my self esteem.

Today: another sunny day but might be the last one this week so Ds and I are having a lazy day! I’ll do a quick treadmill run after school drop off to get it done, then probably have a shake, salad lunch with chicken, and dinner is chicken wrapped in Parma ham and asparagus.

Enjoy your day!

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 15/05/2018 07:53

Well, I've started BSD again. Exercise is still restricted to basic physio but I've come to the conclusion I just have to work round my lack of mobility. If I wait until I'm fully better, goodness knows how much heavier I'll be!
I've found a new Samsung weight management app which makes it clearer to see the difference between calories eaten and calories burned and so far I've lost 1.6lbs since Thursday.
ponygirlcurtis we were on some of the same threads years ago. Although I had a different name then. It's lovely to see you again!

PrimalLass · 15/05/2018 07:58

I have a pair of trousers that I crash dieted into last summer. They are my benchmark. Also my bikinis for the holiday we've not booked yet Smile

But a friend noticed yesterday that I have lost weight. Not sure how really as I'm just back to my 'normal' overweight weight. Maybe it is a shape thing, as you say.

PrimalLass · 15/05/2018 08:00

I'm not really exercising BTW. Trying to fit in some fast walks but other than that I'm too busy. V stressful time at work - desperately trying to find a new job but it will be better over the summer as everyone disappears.

kumamon · 15/05/2018 08:04

Hi All! I’m considering starting this. Getting married in 3 months time Shock

Currently on WW but it’s going slowly, and I could really use a major boost. I know there’s loads of really useful tips on here, and I’m working through them. But I’ve seen that there is a 12 week online programme starting in a few weeks time on the MM website. It’s £99. Has anyone done it? I’m just wondering if it will make life easier, in comparison with buying the book. I am incredibly busy just now so anything that saves time is a bonus too.

PrimalLass · 15/05/2018 08:17

I have the book but haven't read it Blush

But I've done low carb lots.

If you haven't then I can see that attraction of a paid programme.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/05/2018 09:15

Kumamon the book is a relatively easy read to be honest, half of it is recipes but the science bit at the beginning is an interesting read. I’d get the book, try the plan, and save the £99 to see if you can manage alone first. It seems a lot of money!

Hi place! Good to see you back!

This morning's discussion let to a trying on session. Bloody Nora. I could not normally have worn certain things comfortably at this weight that are now absolutely fine 😀

Do it. It is very satisfying.

veryveryquietly · 15/05/2018 09:57

Hey all, welcome back place, hope you're feeling better despite continued mobility issues, welcome more new people!

Kunamon agree with bear to try the book first. And indeed reading the book is good advice for all new starters - the book isn't hugely expensive, pretty easy read, and answers lots of questions. Better to read it than go off what you've heard or read about BSD elsewhere in newspaper articles and such - except here of course :) and BSD forums themselves. (BSD forums seem to be more people who are definitely doing the diet because of diabetes/prediabetes, if that's a concern)

After all my whining yesterday, and (relative) caloric blowout few days, I'm actually back down to the lowest weight I was at last week, before it briefly fluctuated up a few pounds.

I'm also starving this morning, despite yogurt, fruit, and a hardboiled egg. Have to stop eating late in the evening, which only makes me hungrier in the morning!

Gym direct debit has just gone out - more motivation to get my carcass over there and get my money's worth.

thereinmadnesslies · 15/05/2018 10:00

Ha I’ve been trying stuff on too. I had a bloody stressful period at work which has ended up in several months signed off due to bullying, which also led to massive weight gain. Right now my work clothes from last summer do up, but only just. Still stuck on a plateau as well Confused

ATurnipOfMyOwn · 15/05/2018 10:01

Agree about the toddler hands! Since I discovered that my idea of 'a small handful' of cheese is about 200 calories I'm weighing everything.

Despite breaking my '2 glasses of wine on Fridays and Saturdays' vow, end of week 1 and I have lost 9.75lb (a little under 4.5kg). I still can't get my head around that. I have definitely noticed that my muffin top is shrinking, but must remember to do measurements. I might even take a scary photo or two.

My goal is 9st by mid August, so I've worked that out as 1.7lbs per week. Hopefully that's doable. I'm not expecting the losses in future weeks to be quite as dramatic, but as long as the numbers keep going down then I can stay motivated.

kumamon I've no idea what you get for £99, but I'd want MM to personally deliver my meals for that sort of cash. Try the books first - much cheaper.

PrimalLass · 15/05/2018 10:02

Oh that sounds awful. My work is shit just now too.

PrimalLass · 15/05/2018 10:03

Turnip That's an amazing weight loss. Good isn't it? I think I called it witchcraft. Then I only lost one more lb over two weeks but definitely seem to have lost fat round my middle all the same.
