Welcome back blue!

I bit the bullet and weighed in this morning, down from 12.6.4 to 12.3 so that's 3.4lb off. I'm pleased with that for week 1. I'm now hiding the scales til next week.

Lots planned for the week, walk round the lake today, I've put 2 runs onto the calendar to make sure I do them, plus I've planned some good meals. Aiming to keep at 800 today- I find it so restrictive at the weekends, but at least I kept on plan otherwise. And no wine yet this year! Last night was the first night where I really felt the benefit of not drinking- had a good night's sleep, woke feeling quite refreshed. It makes so much difference to my poor sleep starved body.

Have a great Monday everyone!

Starting today. Breakfast: yoghurt with passion fruit and toasted almonds = YUM. Also had a cup of tea.

I have planned my meals for the whole week from the book, shopped accordingly and cleared out my fridge of the things I won't be eating. I am going to DO THIS!

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 08/01/2018 11:27

bridget you sound very motivated. Meal planning definitely helps.

bear your walk round the lake sounds lovely. Although it was -5 here this morning so I'm huddled over a heater rather than outside.

I've decided I'm going back to gym classes Shock. I've found some classes near my office which mean I can go straight from school drop-off. First one is tomorrow.
I'm writing it here so you can hold me accountable

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/01/2018 12:11

Welcome Bridget , you do sound motivated! What meals are you having from the book? I always forget to use the recipe book to be honest, but there are some nice things in there. Do you use MFP? You will find some of the calorie counts are waaaaaaay out, so it's always worth checking.

Place I always imagine gym classes filled with super fit Lycra clad beauties. It's enough to put me off, although I know lots of people who go and love them. Maybe 2018 will be the year.....

It is also freezing here today, might scrape up to a balmy 2* after lunch! But Ds needs a run, he's like a greyhound, so we will have to wrap up warm and brave the elements.

Lunch: Roasted peppers, curried lentils, feta.

That looks delicious oblomov! Your own recipe?

OP posts:
Oblomov18 · 08/01/2018 12:56

No. 'Fraid not.
Roasted the Sainsbury's peppers. Aldi packet of curried lentils. Tesco block of feta in brine, so lasts ages.

bridgetreilly · 08/01/2018 14:20

No, I don't use MFP. I want to keep it simple, so I'm sticking with the book and just using the calorie counts in there.

Today is lettuce cups with bacon and avocado for lunch, and chicken with white bean mash for dinner. Except, having carefully made my lunch, I left it at home! Fortunately, I can work from home, so I'll be going soon because I'm definitely ready for lunch!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/01/2018 18:21

Finishing the day on 897 cals (49g carbs/ 9 g fibre) and actually feeling stuffed! Had a delicious (but not very healthy) tea of sausages, mushroom, egg, and tomatoes. The sausages were called 'porky lights' and are almost 100% pork, and were very nice, especially as they were yellow stickered in asda so got them for 50p!

No run today but I've clocked up my 10k steps with general housework and a very cold walk round a frozen lake!

Ah ok. I don't think I'd need them as I drink so much coffee! Your food looks delicious!

Fried spring greens with seeds alongside scrambled egg for breakfast. Had the same yesterday and it kept me going for hours. Looks very pretty too. Husband is joining me in low carbing which means we can eat the same; so nice having company!
I’m used to the daytimes. It’s the evenings which get me. But small steps. I’m yet to see any post-Christmas weight loss which is frustrating but I know I’ve fallen foul a few times so it’s no mystery. Taking it day by day.

Jigglytuff · 09/01/2018 08:19

Hello and happy new year lovely BSDers! I put on 7 pounds by being totally off diet over Xmas and eating my own body weight in chocolate and cocktails. So I’m back on it again. Want to do a proper 8 weeks again and properly lose another stone.

I’ve meal planned and also discovered bags of bean sprouts are quite good noodle replacements

That's great Lalalaleah, well done. 6lb is great! The tiredness does hit me too on this plan, it makes me realise how often I turn to carbs to get me through the day!

I'm ending the day on 936 cals, 59 carbs (13g fibre) - a little high on the carbs but I ate loads of veg, hence the fibre. I'm feeling very 'on it', it's really nice to just feel calmly in control of it. I've got myself into a good rhythm now- I have a shake at about 10.30-11 ish, a bowl of soup at lunchtime, and my dinner at about 5.30. Today I had a delicious moussaka type thing. I've bought plastic takeaway cartons to freeze leftover portions so I have quite a few ready meals now for the next few weeks. No run today, but I have hit my 10k steps.

How's everyone else getting on?

OP posts:
bridgetreilly · 09/01/2018 21:03

Day 2. I lost 2 lbs, though I'm not really counting it as a win yet!

Still managing to stick completely to the plan and mostly finding it not too hard. I miss eating, but I'm not particularly hungry. Was a bit woozy earlier and had a late afternoon nap, which helped. I've also got a cold, so that's not helping.

I was wondering about sugar-free chewing gum for the times when I'm reaching out for a snack out of habit. But I'm not sure whether that would just make it harder to break out of my sweet tooth. Does anyone else do gum? Good thing or not?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/01/2018 21:37

I chew gum when I'm baking cakes (I periodically bake 100s of cupcakes at a time for PTA functions!) and it works in that respect. I'm not sure how it would work long term to prevent you from eating other stuff, plus technically we shouldn't have any sweet tasting food (even artificially sweet). I am not a good one to talk though, as I have sweetener in my coffee 3 times a day!

It's a tough call isn't it? If chewing the gum is helping you to manage not to eat other things then that's great, and I'm sure a few pieces a day won't hurt. But some artificial sweeteners can play havoc with food cravings, and apparently can mess up insulin responses and other things, (I find Pepsi Max does this to me, sends me loopy!), so if you find you're craving sugar badly after having gum then I'd try to avoid it. After a few days properly on the plan your sugar cravings should fade dramatically anyway so you might find you don't need the gum so much anyway?

Sorry that's massively waffling!

I will see if I can manage without the gum, I think. Thanks!

yumyumpoppycat · 10/01/2018 13:33

How was your gym class Aplace?!

Apparently Michael Mosley chews sugar free gum, I am a bit addicted and have been buying it in bulk from Costco. I think I overdo the gum tbh, but in moderation it is ok especially at times when it is helpful as struggling with cravings.

Well done everyone lots of positivity! Good work on scale victories Bridge, Lala and Bear plus anyone I have missed.

Oblomov if you are eating healthy meals but slipping up in between meals you are still doing a hell of a lot better than me for the past month or so, particularly as it sounds as if you have more or less maintained over christmas. {whispers} last week I was up more than 2 stone on my lowest 2017 weight. I checked the scales this morning and am down 2 - 3 lbs thanks to improving a bit by not eating after dinner for a few days and doing some exercise, which I think shows how badly I have been eating lately. If I can lose 1.5 more lbs this week I will be back in the 10 stone something category so that's my aim.

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 10/01/2018 16:50

yumyum I didn't go to the gym on Tuesday because DH was taken into hospital on Monday night. So I have mainly been at the hospital and mainly eating whatever rubbish they have in the hospital shop.
Honestly I feel as though we must have walked under a ladder at some point because it feels like it has been one crisis after another for the last three months.
From a BSD pov, I am walking lots because the hospital is old with lots of winding corridors but food hasn't been ideal.
Well done everyone else. There have been some great results so far this week!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/01/2018 18:01

Gosh place hope your Dh is ok? Hospital food must be awful, but probably last thing on your mind. Best wishes to you all, hope everything is ok Flowers

A good day for me. I wanted to do a run but just couldn't get it in, and if I do it now it affects my sleep so I daren't. I've done a good day of jobs and housework though, so have got my 10K steps in. Calories currently on 755 and I'm stuffed, so might leave it at that to make up for the few days I've been over. We had tandoori chicken and baked cauliflower for tea, it's one of my absolute faves on this plan and so easy, plus I had calories left for frozen raspberries and Greek yoghurt.

I'm not drinking enough, so I'm just about to investigate whether I can program the Fitbit to beep to remind me to drink.

You can definitely set it to vibrate regularly bear

I did my 10k today but by god I’ve been bloody starving! Woke up in the night hungry and I had to eat breakfast which I don’t usually. Hoping things will be back to normal within a couple of days

Jigglytuff · 10/01/2018 18:20

Sorry pressed send too soon. Really sorry to hear that Place. Hope he’s back home soon
