Hi starting today as diagnosed as pre diabetic and carrying weight especially round my middle. Any tips would be welcome and also I've set my mfp to 20% carbs 45% fats and 35% protein - does this sound ok?

Just weighed in, frustratingly at 12.0.2.!! So I’ve lost 6.4lb so far, which is by no means astonishing, but I’m still pleased. I know that I’ve lost inches as I’m wearing jeans today that didn’t fit last week, plus I’ve definitely improved my fitness with all the running. I feel quite motivated to carry this on through the weekend now, it will be the difference between starting next week in the 12’s or in the 11’s, so that’s my motivation!

I have some knee tenderness today as I think I have twisted it slightly while running, so my Mission today is to purchase some sort of strap/support that will hold it in place while I run. 2017 Bear would have just quit, but 2018 Bear is keeping On going!

Salmon for dinner tonight, with these pre-packed lentils. Not had them before, so will report back.

I despise bovril. My Dh drinks it instead of tea and coffee, even first thing in the morning. either that or cup a soup. I can’t believe we’re still married!

Just realised we’re on 995 posts so I’ll start the next thread? Or anyone else can?

Thank you! I just had a small bowl of chilli and feel a bit better. Felt sick before but ignored it and ate anyway. I think you are right one step at a time.Maybe I'll try bovril, haven't had that for years.
I'm working all weekend so hopefully by Monday work will be done and my body will be getting used to this....

Dino eat some salt too (put it on sugar snap peas; green beans; almonds; whatever you have at home that is BSD friendly). Carb flu doesn't last that long. Usually only a day or two at most.
I was doing wonderfully today . . .then I ate a cake. If I hadn't, my carbs and cals would have been perfect. Hmm
Home-made soup ready for tomorrow and some salad too so hopefully I'll manage to be more disciplined.

Thanks for the warm welcome back.

I’ve been given a Fitbit for Christmas and am wondering how regularly I should increase my step count goal. Anyone have any thoughts on that?
I’ve had a look online and can’t seam to find anything relevant

Dinocroc that does sound a bit like carb flu. It does get better, I promise. You can try something salty, such as bovril which can ease the headaches. I do find I feel a bit over-watered some days, a bit washed out. You need some electrolytes to keep you going. Bear in mind as well that you can have some carbs. If your body is screaming out for them, there’s no real benefit to punishing yourself. You could have something that’s on the plan but also a bit carby such as nuts, an apple or pear, even a small portion of porridge. It’s a huge lifestyle change and it really does work, but you must also be kind to yourself and listen to your body. I find sometimes I get headaches that stop me sleeping (as my carb flu symptoms) and the only way to get through it is to have a small amount of something to ease it.

Failing that, I always find a lovely hot bath takes my mind off it til the morning!

Evening wise ones. Need you to reassure me that this gets easier!. This afternoon hit with nausea, stomach cramps, headache. Don't feel like eating which is a plus but feels like a hangover with none of the fun before it.
I've googled carb flu and I think its that. My former life of unlimited bad carbs is hitting me hard.

Do I have a week of this ?? Any longer and I will crack Grin. Any amazing solutions ( am drinking lots of water)

Closing the kitchen on 1036 cals, 52g carbs (11 g fibre). I did a whopping 18k steps which is ludicrous really, and included a 4.2k run. I’m absolutely exhausted!

Weekend is looming once again. I’m meeting an old friend tomorrow for a very rare, child free lunch- although it is harvester so there will be lots of salad and chicken. I probably won’t stick to 800 tomorrow not that I actually ever do anyway! I’m really determined to not drink any alcohol this weekend, despite having an evening out planned for Saturday, as I could really do with getting a few more good days under my belt before Monday’s weigh in. If ever it was going to go wrong, it would be the weekend. All the more reason to be extra strict and hopefully get through without cracking. Although I do miss wine, a lot!

Welcome harvest moon! I do find the carb cravings cease, although every now and then they reappear- for me that’s totm related, and also I am finding that when I’ve had higher carb days due to lots of pulses or too much fruit for example, I then crave sugar more. Yesterday I had bread- I was a carb monster all afternoon. For me really I need to be all or nothing on this plan, although that’s not to say it’s the same for everyone.

I took all your advice and have made sauce sans lentil to go with my lamb steak. Just about to griddle some courgette strips and I realised my plate would be a bit naked with just meat and sauce!

Hi everyone, can I join you? I’ve got about 25kg to lose and I started BSD 2 weeks ago. So far I’ve lost 4.2kg which is really motivating, but feel like I’ll need help to stick at it. Really inspiring reading how you are all getting on!

Was doing quite well with carb cravings but they’re definitely stronger today. Doesn’t help that we got a new breadmaker at Christmas which makes the most amazing loaves - am baking a loaf for the children tonight and just going to have to make do with the heavenly smell! Grin

Do the carb cravings get easier/ever go away after you’ve been on the plan a while?

Agree, sully not your lamb with your lentils. Enjoy the ragu sans lentils!

I love lentils! cod and lentils yum, halloumi and lentils yum... not sure about lamb and lentils. though. I have done a couple of half half dishes recently when I haven't been sure about something I am adding or giving some to the kids (tipped half into another pan before adding suspicious ingredient); so could you make the ragu and near then end split some into another pan and add appropriate amount of lentils?

Oblomov I am not getting back to it at all Sad, right tomorrow HAS to be an 800 fast day.

Aplace so glad all is getting back to normal and your dh is home.

Hmmmm, sausages you say??

I’m supposed to be doing a lamb Ragu tonight which has tinned green lentils in it, I’m tempted to leave them out as I don’t want to waste my lamb (very rarely buy as it’s so expensive!) - what do you reckon? It’s into a tomato and olive sauce?

Welcome back Icjump, that’s a cracking loss for your first week back!

And yeah, bear, green lentils really, really need sausage to be properly tasty.

This lentil, halloumi and tomato salad is really yummy, esp when the halloumi is still warm from being grilled/fried. 22 carbs per serving, but only 346 calories.

Admittedly, when I make that salad, I'm always tempted to just sit and eat the grilled halloumi and cut out all the rest...

Checking back in after three months.
I’ve managed to put in 9 kilos since I’ve stopped doing BSD but restarted on Monday and am 3.5 kilos down.
I thought I’d been staying into 800 but today I realised I’ve been having lots more milk than I’ve been counting. I can’t face black coffee so I’ll have to up my herbal tea.

I love celeriac! I also really, really like cooked celery. It's excellent in things like bolognese sauce and stews, but I also cook it as a vegetable in its own right.

I did not eat the chocolate biscuit I was offered this evening, even though it was one of my favourite kinds.

I did, however, eat more than I should have done at dinner. It was a good dinner for the plan, but I had nearer two portions than one. Ah well.

I’m closing the kitchen on 963 cals, 68g carbs (6.8g fibre). Not ideal, but the bread tipped me over the edge. Plus, today I have been really really hungry, which I’m also sure is bread related.

My fish pie was absolutely delicious, I can highly recommend celeriac mash (even though the overwhelming smell raw is celery, which is my least favourite vegetable). I used a Jamie Oliver recipe and roasted it before boiling in stock, and then mashed it. Yummy!

I made these Vietnamese Lamb Cups last night and they were delish. Low carb (4gr) and calories per serving not bad at all (345).

Getting better at negotiating people offering me sweets and treats during the day. I hadn't realised how much it happens at the office.

I can run on empty now. I ran a marathon in September and realised I couldn't stomach the gels and sugar so did it pretty much without. I would say that's as I metabolise fat but the size of my backside would go against that Smile. That said I bet I had some glycogen stores..

I made a red lentil and chorizo soup from the BBC website. Very tasty. and some egg muffiny things baked in the oven. and some chilli. Work is my downfall and so I plan to be a bringer of tupperware for the next 55 days ( one done right !).Going to do this one day at a time and count them down...Roll on the parkrun PB
