Welcome Penelope ! Thank you! Smile Week 1, Day 1!! Here goes it!!

PenelopeFlintstone · 28/12/2017 07:30

Just wanted to mention that my 800 calories were well and truly gone by 3pm....

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/12/2017 17:19

Place it's toddler herding that racks the steps up. I bet he does twice as many as I do!

Bought a Breville nutri-blender today in asda in their sale as I am planning on starting January with peanut butter/Greek yog/almond milk shakes instead of breakfast and lunch for a few days. Also, in tkmaxx they have lots of things like peanut powder at really good prices if that is of interest to anyone?

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 30/12/2017 18:26

My DS is at the sedentary stage (when he's not bouncing off the walls/couches). Perhaps I need to steal a toddler...
DH has shakes every morning bear. He thinks they're a great start to the day.
Some good and some bad BSD days here. It may balance out when I look at it over the week.

Oblomov18 · 31/12/2017 16:46

Sorry haven't been around much. Been eating and drinking what I wanted. Lots of wine. WineBlush
Finally weighed myself. Same weight.
Off to catch up on thread.
Come Jan 1st I'm going for it, full monty. Add me to the list please.

Nomoocluck · 01/01/2018 08:01

Hi all. I fell off the last thread as life got busy and wanted to check in.

I did the BSD over last summer. Lasted 6 weeks eating an average of 1000 kcal a day then did a mix of 5:2, 16:8 and eating normally including carbs. I was borderline high normal/low overweight when I started and lost 12 pounds in the initial phase then a further 6 pounds veeeery gradually. I'm at risk of T2DM and need my BMI to be low normal to reduce that risk. I have been the higher end of normal all my adult life and I have a very small frame, with an apple shape so not great in terms of aesthetics or health!

I guess I just wanted to say that six months on, maintenance is possible because I feel that for the first time ever I have the willpower and the know how to reign things back after over indulging for a weekend or a holiday. I have not given up eating socially and that includes carbs if I fancy it. I just incorporate a couple of days of 16:8 after and that seems to work.

Am now on holiday and back on the thread to try and motivate me in the new year to carry on. I still have a way to go before my BMI comes down to low normal. And I have had some nice comments from people I haven't seen for a year about the weight loss (I act all casual because I don't know what to say but secretly I'm really chuffed!).

So good luck to everyone in this new year and KOKO!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/01/2018 13:11

Gah, I'm so revoltingly hungover and just ate a white bread roll and a piece of cheese.

I'm starting tomorrow.

Happy new year to you all!!

OP posts:
APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 01/01/2018 20:12

Happy new year!
I've just had pizza followed by Christmas cake . . .so, yeah, maybe starting tomorrow here too.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/01/2018 21:07

Right! I've taken the tree down, tidied up, and thrown away eaten all the chocolate orange. No wine tonight (Dh and I attempting dry January) and I've got my lovely new notebook all ready for my big relaunch tomorrow. I do need to do a food shop before I can really start, although we do have a few grapefruit so I might have one tomorrow morning.

My plan is :
Lots of water
Use my Fitbit and try to hit 8000 steps a day at least.
Use the treadmill every other day, and walk with Ds on the other days.
My food will be a Shake in the mornings made with almond milk, frozen raspberries and either PB, Greek yog, or avocado (to a total of 200 cals), a 100 -150 cals 'snack' of Ham and cucumber/cherry toms at 4pm, and a 500 cal evening meal. I've planned it this way because of something said upthread- I've always skipped breakfast on this plan but feel like I'm stuck in that rut now. Hopefully this way plus the small snack meal in my danger time of 4pm will help, and then a larger evening meal.
I'm going to try to keep my dairy intake a bit lower as I think the carbs in the lactose send me a bit carb-crazy.

Other than that, it's just 'on it' really isn't it? I fully expect a harsh few days detoxing. My dc are going sugar free too, although I haven't actually told them, but we've sat today and made lots of snack cards with carrot sticks, fruit, cheese cubes etc on them so they can choose healthy snacks. It could go horribly wrong but I'm optimistic.

Oh, and I've weighed myself- 12.6.4. That's a gain of about 3lb over Christmas which isn't too horrific. But it's a big number and it has to go. I'd like to lose 7lb in January at least!

That sounds like a super plan bear, noting where your hunger spikes and tackling it before it gets you. I’m going to copy that!
My Boxing Day enthusiasm dispersed pretty quickly but we head home tomorrow and back to work/school routine on weds so I start tmr.
Similar plan for day one although I’m ditching breakfast. Black coffee. Long drive then salad lunch, veg mush dinner. And NO BOOZE. Fek me that’s going to be a killer. But jeez that evening wine is a ruiner. No at home drinking is my long term plan.
My daily plan as I don’t eat meat, fish or dairy is eating shed loads of green veg, and all other veg (but no roots), eggs, small handfuls of nuts only if ravenous. I’ll have two meals, with no snacks, no booze (unless I’m out and it’s a “thing”), lots of water, lots of sleep 🤨, lots of steps, and finally any other YouTube hiit if there’s time before work/school run!
11st right now, 9st is my super final goal by Easter. Yikes! Feels a bit crazy to aim for that. Oh god! But that’s the aim.
Go!

pitpot · 02/01/2018 00:51

Also just to say, I’m going to post my losses. Day by day (feeling so hopeful!).
But from my last experience, the early first drops really kept me going and keeping a log here is an easy way to track it all.

diamantegal · 02/01/2018 01:08

pitpot are you me? Same weight and goal, and same evening wine downfall.

Was here before and I know it works, but failed to stick to it. But DH asked tonight if we could do a low-carb stint so that should make it easier once I've had the last mouthful of red wine

Need to menu plan tomorrow when working from home, but we've got an M&S hog roast in the fridge, so hopefully that plus veg will work.

pitpot · 02/01/2018 07:59

Diamentagel, brilliant that our goals are identical. Keep tracking and posting so we can follow where we are.
I too have done this really successfully a couple of years and got down into the early 9s which felt amazing.
I went to the early 10s for a year and the recent extra stone has only been greedily added in the last few months. I’m really hopeful that it comes down pretty fast as I rather rashly threw half my wardrobe away because I swore I’d never get fat again. Hmm! So my current clothes don’t really fit or do up and I’m not buying anymore. This absolutely has to work.
I think it’ll be ok... but the wine.

thebluenailbrush · 02/01/2018 10:28

i want to restart but not sure its possible right now with exams and the stress and boredom i'm under right now. Staying in and revising all day every day is a trigger for overeating. We'll see, I intend to get some low cal ready meals to get me going so it could work with lots of crudities and water.

Tree and decorations stay up in my home until the 6th as epiphany was always a big celebration growing up. We even have our own cake that day, one i'll probably forgo this year .

Happy new year everyone.

thebluenailbrush · 02/01/2018 10:29

i'm also doing dry January as an experiment.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/01/2018 17:22

I've had a great 1st day. I haven't calculated the cals yet but I had a shake this morning, and for dinner I've just had spicy tandoori chicken and veg. I haven't drunk much water, so will go and have a pint now! It's been refreshing and pleasant to feel hungry again, after a fortnight of feeling bloated and stuffed. I made lentil soup for my 4pm 'snack' meal but didn't eat it, so will freeze it in portions tonight for later in the week. 8700 steps too, although no 'formal' exercise.

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/01/2018 18:47

Ok, after calculating I'm on:
660 cals, 15g carbs, 2.8g fibre

Really could do with boosting the fibre total without necessarily adding loads of carbs/cals. I bought some chia seeds ages ago, perhaps I could add them to a shake? Do they need to soak overnight?

Kids have been sugar free all day today too. I didn't buy anything sugary, except for breakfast cereals (and only rice crispies) and it hasn't been too painful today. They have eaten loads though!

OP posts:
pitpot · 02/01/2018 23:49

Sounds great bear. But are you not totally ravenous? 660 calories! Diving straight back into to the deep end. I admire you!
And I know what you mean in that it feels good not to be pinned to the sofa in a carb coma but I must say I’m bloody hungry lying here in bed and I’ve had 980 cals and 40g carbs. Just gotta sleep through it i guess..
Tomorrow it’s back to work which will be much easier. Manically busy so I won’t have time to think about my hunger.
Well done in limiting the kids sugar too. Mine will be toothless teens at the rate they get through it!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/01/2018 07:50

I wasn't totally ravenous, although I did venture back into the kitchen and use up the remaining 140 cals (had 100g Greek yoghurt and a plum, so ended up very slightly over). I think the key for me to not feeling ravenous is to really employ the plan- getting enough fat in, keeping the carbs very low, and drinking plenty too. The downside of that is that it's very fibre-poor. This plan is sometimes like a scientific balancing act rather than a food plan!

I very rarely actually succeed to get 800 (even in my first round I averaged about 1000 a day) so I won't promise to do it again. I have realised from my Fitbit that while I think I'm inactive and never do much, I actually clock up a lot of steps. Not sure how accurate it is, and obviously they are little movements not great strides, but i hit 10k yesterday. This makes me realise that perhaps I've been a bit hard on myself by not eating breakfast as I am clearly more active than I thought. It's no wonder that by 4 I am scratching around for food! My strategy yesterday worked well- kept going all morning, then had a shake, then planned/budgeted for a small protein snack, then a bigger dinner but early (5pm). I have planned my week's meals around this structure now, which also helps as I am terrible at lunches and often just have cheese and ham and don't even sit down.

Today we've got: shake, lentil soup at 4pm, and something with pork loin steaks for dinner (Chinese maybe?)

Have a great day everyone!

OP posts:
thebluenailbrush · 03/01/2018 10:31

thenewaveragebear1983 well done, very inspiring. Do you make the shake and lentil soup yourself or is it off the shelf ? I love lentil soup , sounds a good idea.

My ideal slimming day works like this. Lunch at 1pm, salad with protein. Mid afternoon snack (varies), then home for more protein and salad. Does get boring though. If i'm not fasting I add a few almonds in to snack on around 10am (max of 10). My downfall on fasting days in the difficulty i have cutting out milk in hot drinks. I think that will improve, moving to a new office next week.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/01/2018 11:46

Thebluenailbrush yes, I do make the shakes and soup myself. I've yet to find a shake that is either sugar free, or sweetener free. I just use almond milk, 50g frozen raspberries and then either 1/2 an avocado, a small tbsp peanut butter, or a tablespoon of Greek yoghurt. They do taste pleasant, but not delicious (if that makes sense?!) because they are clearly sugar free. Today I added 5g of chia seeds, they were pretty unnoticed as I used my nutri-bullet but I'd imagine would be pretty horrible in a less powerful blender! I like the shakes because it just removes the food temptation.

The soup I make in my soup kettle, I do others but fancied lentil this week. I freeze portions in jam jars because I'm the only one who eats it. I didn't actually have it yesterday, so hopefully it will keep me going this afternoon. The danger with lentils (or any beans/pulses etc) is that they are relatively high carb so I find they sometimes make me crave more.

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/01/2018 17:25

You can always tell when bear is on it, because here comes the food picture!

The cravings hit me at about 2.00 this afternoon, combined with my detoxing children and myself, the afternoon dragged by. I busied myself with housework, plus did a short treadmill session but it has felt like a chore and a half. I've gone slightly over as a result, but here's my dinner anyway- omelette with spinach, goats cheese, olives and cherry toms

Closing the kitchen on 898 cals, 49 g carbs (although a massive 20g of that is fibre, unless there's a big error on mfp for one of the items I've added) so not too bad. 11,500 steps which included a run.

Please please just wire my mouth shut now until the morning.

Hello mind if I rejoin you all? {Sigh} I have gained shed loads. It's not the diet's fault, I have been eating like a demented person. I am not quite back at square 1, maybe square 2, so need to take serious action. I am not sure about doing say 8 weeks of 800 again. Maybe a week to get started then just healthier eating? Think I will try and cut back on crap and start properly on Sunday when Christmas is officially over!

Bear I am very impressed that you are cutting back on sugar in your dc's diet. That is amazing.

Happy New Year everyone.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/01/2018 17:41

Hi yumyum, nice to see you back!

OP posts:
APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 03/01/2018 18:57

Happy new year yumyum !
bear I love your food pics. My food is rarely photogenic.
I had avocado for breakfast then steak stir-fry for lunch. I think I might have goat's cheese salad for dinner.
NSV - I picked up some clothes in the sales today and they were all either 10s or 12s. I'm feeling stodgy and stuffed since Christmas so it was a nice reminder of how far I have come.
