bear it sounds like you did well with lunch.
I've just had garlic mushrooms with roast beef for a very late lunch.
DS has an activity tonight so dinner will be thrown together or we'll probably end up with some kind of low carb takeaway later.

ferntwist · 13/09/2017 16:51

Hi bear thank you for a great thread. Do you have a recipe for your broccoli and bacon bake?

Oblomov17 · 13/09/2017 16:57

Love the Eeyore.

I'm not doing very well. Brilliant with meals. Badly with crisps and chocolate in between. I don't know quite how to address this.

I also feel very tired and can't be bothered to do anything more than minimal requirements.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/09/2017 18:01

I just did- a whole head of cauli and broccoli (about 450g each); a whole 200g pot of soft cheese/philli, I used 80g of pre-shredded ham hock (from aldi) and 50g cheddar. You could use bacon instead, or leave it out entirely.

Pre cook the cauli and broccoli and when it's cooked put it in an oven dish. I then chop it up roughly so it's in smaller pieces. Stir in the soft cheese really well so it's all coated, then I just sprinkled the ham on the top and then the grated cheddar. Bake it til it's golden on the top.

Calories- I divided into 6 portions, allowing 2 sixths for a main, or 1/6 as a side (it's nice with roast dinners) - but that is a sizeable mound of food! 1/6 whole dish comes to:
Cals 185, fat 13g carbs 6, protein 11, fibre 3g.
The soft cheese is the calorie heavy element, but it needs to be full fat or it will separate. I have used double the veg today and there's no noticeable difference except more bulk.
Excuse the messy photo!

I love stuff like that! Husband less so...

I'm doing a butternut Thai curry tonight, he'll have cous cous, I won't.

Should be on track for 800...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/09/2017 20:04

Ending the day on 1135cals and 105g carbs! (Although if I take off my naughty lunch and cake then I was doing really well!). I haven't run either today as it is a scheduled rest day.

I'm trying really hard not to be too hard on myself because I've had a very good few weeks, and I've hidden the scales for a few days so I don't see them and feel tempted. I might measure myself in the morning instead - I'd love to keep my motivation up for the weekend ahead. It will be my 3rd alcohol free weekend, and while I don't actually miss it that much, I do miss that 'first sip' feeling!

Just about to try a Fit Kitchen microwave meal, bought at Sainsbury's. It had 15g carbs and is 292. Will add courgetti. Will report back. Lots of stuff to do tonight. Smile

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/09/2017 20:35

Not heard of those tobee, you must report back if it's any good!

OP posts:
tobee · 13/09/2017 20:50

Finished already! Which was the point really. This one's called Malaysian chicken . Hmm. Looked a bit s#%*t really. Sort of looked like tinned mixed veg with anaemic chicken breast on top. Plus sachet of beige sauce. The sauce kind of disappeared on microwaving. I added soy sauce. Can't remember how much it cost. Probably too much but I hardly ever do ready meals and was desperate to be quick and not messy. Tasted all right. I suppose. Was desperate. Yes, desperate.

Interesting that they've bothered though!

ferntwist · 13/09/2017 21:03

Thank you so much for the recipe bear, it looks and sounds delicious.
Question for everyone - how do you cope with well-meaning pressure/temptation from family, e.g. my MIL makes special Victoria sponge for us every time we go up, however many times we tell her we're going no-sugar or no-carb. I find it so hard not to cave and DH understandably never wants to upset his mum.

tobee · 13/09/2017 22:07

I'm still really hungry Sad

yumyumpoppycat · 13/09/2017 22:50

Oblomov - snap. I suspect paleo no calorie counting for a week would work for me if I could bring myself to do it which I can't , then add in counting cals, bring back legumes and dairy etc. whole 7 instead of whole 30. I don't know what's wrong with me at the moment.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/09/2017 07:23

Fern I find its the calorie count that shocks people not the sugar free/ low carb element, so I just don't tell them! I've had conversations with my mil like this:
you shouldn't cut out food groups. Carbohydrate isn't a food group, it's a macronutrients. Anyway, I still eat carbs
Yes, but sugar is ok in a balanced diet
Yes, but I can't eat sugar in a balanced way, so it isn't good for me
You shouldn't give up anything.
What? Even drugs or alcohol? Or cigarettes?

Then I make this face Hmm

The last laugh would be on me if it actually was working and I was thin, but currently that's not the case!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/09/2017 18:36

Cor, it's quiet in here this week!

I'm closing the kitchen on 1081 cals, 40g carbs, (12 fibre).

For tea I had about a third of a gammon steak, an egg, a flat mushroom and wilted spinach. Was very nice but not much for the calories.

Dh has already rung to warn me he is bringing home wine. I'm not having any (am I?) as I'm determined to do this dry September, well at least til Friday 29th. Tomorrow will be half way! Hoping to squeeze in a run tonight after Dh gets back. I didn't weigh myself this morning, his the scales and drank a coffee before I could talk myself into it.

I'm feeling good, feeling positive for the weekend which is rare!
Hope you're all ok?

Flightywoman · 14/09/2017 19:12

I'm closing on around 1075 I think. I have been craving something creamy and chickeny all week so I made myself something that met the necessary requirements. It was a leek, fried in butter, then 2 slices of chopped bacon, 2 chopped up chicken breasts,, so ground garlic, pinch of thyme, a knorr stock pot, water, some cooked quinoa and a few large handfuls of kale. Lid on, cooked for a bit and then half a tub of half fat creme fraiche stirred through.

It was delicious and hugely high in calories but it has filled me up nicely, is massive on the protein and I should be fine for the rest of the evening! I'll leave out the quinoa next time though, it's not necessary and I'm not really a fan.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/09/2017 19:17

Ooh flighty that sounds lovely.

SpaghettiAlphabetti · 14/09/2017 19:51

All done on 950 calories, 11,567 steps... 4.5km of that was running! Well... I say running.... it's couch to 5km so there was a fair bit of stopping and walking in there.

Scales haven't moved all week again. It's depressing me and defies any logic. I'm eating so much less than I was before and moving so much more. It doesn't feel very fair.

WI day is Saturday so I'll take stock then.

SpaghettiAlphabetti · 14/09/2017 19:52

bear I know I would crack. I did last night when a friend came over.

frumpety · 14/09/2017 20:18

Place marking until the morning when I will weigh myself and measure .

purpleviolet1 · 14/09/2017 21:59

Can I (and my DH) join? We are both starting the diet. He was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a year ago and has a large amount of weight to lose. I've got a bit of baby weight to lose and he has asked me to join him so that we can support each other. Bought the recipe book today and it actually looks pretty decent!

Planning to start on Monday so on Saturday, I will meal plan and order the shop.

Will take measurements on Sunday.

Any recommendations for dh to monitor his sugar levels throughout? He doesn't monitor currently (has never been advised to despite his blood test (H1CA is it?) being around 80 which I understand is really quite high. Should he test after meals so we can see how things progress?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/09/2017 06:10

Morning all.
I've been up since 4, after getting up with ds- he went back to sleep and I didn't, so I've had a lovely 2 hours watching recorded programmes and drinking coffee in the quiet. I'll regret it later no doubt.

Welcome purple, it's great that you and your Dh are supporting each other. I don't know about glucose testing kits, I used one when I had GD but not since. Can he get one in prescription? If not, I think they are in Amazon but the strips are expensive. Does he have any medication for his diabetes?

OP posts:
SpaghettiAlphabetti · 15/09/2017 06:22

purple no idea about glucose levels. Is there anything in BSD book about it? I can't remember.

bear been up since 5.30 with my DS which isn't the same thing but he did tip an entire cup of milk over my bed because I hadn't put the lid on properly. Very long day and commute ahead. Great.

frumpety · 15/09/2017 06:36

Purple is he on medication or is he supposed to be managing it with diet ? It might be worth having a chat with your GP or practise nurse and see if they recommend monitoring whilst he is doing the diet , and if so would be able to advise when the best time to do it , they should also be able to advise re monitors .

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/09/2017 06:38

That's not good spaghetti. Although it was early, it was actually quite pleasant to be up so early. I opened the curtains and put the fire on and watched the sun rise. Currently arguing over cocopops and watching fireman Sam! Peace doesn't last long.

I should have added, it's day 1 of week 3 today. I quickly stepped On the scales and they are still the bleeping same. I shouldn't have bothered but I did think my good week might have shown even a teeny bit! I am still in the 11's, hanging on by 0.2 of a pound. I know 5lb in total is great in 2 weeks, but I've clearly spent too long in the company of toddlers because I want to stamp my feet and sulk. Now faced with a sugar free, low carb, no alcohol weekend, and knowing that if I do those things I'll maintain and if I don't then I'll gain! How depressing is that!!? (And yes, I am being a boohoo Betty- I know it will work eventually!) If I was ignoring the scales I'd be feeling good, so that's what I should do/plan to do this week!
