Anyone doing it and can give tips please? I know it's where you only eat in an 8 hour window but wondered if there's anything else I should know?

Hi all I'm back after a weeks holiday in lanzerote. I had an amazing time but I've eaten and drank everythingBlush
I've put 5lbs on which is fine and expected but it can bugger off now I do not like how it feel on my hips thank you very much!
First fast today til 12 I'm actually fine but we are going out for late lunch with friends so the foods not going to be that healthy but I will stick to my fast time. Tomorrow I will get back to healthy eating again and I'm starting the 30 day shred.

Well done to all the losersSmile

PaperdollCartoon · 04/06/2017 20:25

Hi! I've just started this today, fine so far but I didn't get up till 11am and rarely eat more than two meals at the weekend anyway. Through work during the week will be harder, and a few work things on this week that won't help, but will do my best. I've thought the science of intermittent fasting makes sense for a while, but this pattern makes most sense to me.

Today I'm 10st 6 at 5"2, want to get down to about 8st 10, but first goal is just to get under 10st!

macnab · 04/06/2017 20:26

Welcome back sham I'd kill for a break in the sun! I fasted until 3:30pm today, we had a family lunch out so I decided to wait until then as I knew it would be a big meal! I had 3 courses and 2 glasses of wine Blush
Nothing else for me now until tomorrow, when I plan to be very good in the hopes of making up for all the treats today!
For someone who could have happily eaten last nights dinner for my breakfast every morning, I'm finding it strangely easy to stick to this! Long may it continue Smile

iknowimcoming · 05/06/2017 09:13

Sorry - but I'm in need of a moan Sad my weight just seems to be fluctuating around the 5/6/7 pounds loss mark after 4 weeks and I'm feeling a bit despondent with it. I know I look a bit better (my waist looks less flabby even though not showing any inch loss) I know it's so much better for my health to be not constantly eating crap but I really feel considering the vast difference in what I eat now compared to 5 weeks ago I should be seeing a better weight loss than this Sad I've got two weddings that I want to look better at one in 6 weeks, the other in 11 weeks, I'm going to start the shred today and see if that helps. Can one of you give me a kick up the arse please?

shamoffour · 05/06/2017 12:13

Iknow it's so disheartening when that happens stick with it and try not to let it get you down. If you are eating healthily it will start to come off again.
I'm starting the shred tonight, although it is the beginners oneBlush
I started it a few weeks ago but didn't continue which I should have done because it's amazing how quickly it starts to work.
Thank you macnab it was a lovely break.
I'm back on it today food is going to look something like this
Ham,mushroom and tomato omelette
Chicken and bacon salad
Fat free Greek yogurt with berries and flaked almonds.

I had a really bad migraine last night and feel a bit tired and woozy from it today. I must admit I did contemplate starting tomorrow but I really need to shift the holiday weight (and then some!)

Eolian · 05/06/2017 13:07

Definitely, Giddy. The hunger thing is interesting. I'm finding that an important part of the 16:8 is learning about your own hunger feelings. Realising that a) It's ok to be hungry - it doesn't do a generally well-fed person any harm to be hungry for a few hours! and b) The hunger feelings aren't constant. If you ignore them and keep busy they mostly go away and just give you the occasional prod.

I just love the simplicity of this plan - the fact that you don't need to give any headspace over to endless guilt, criticism and analysis of what you're eating. I'm going for a 7 or 8pm to 12 noon fast and no snacking except occasionally a piece of fruit if I have an afternoon energy slump.

Giddyaunt18 · 05/06/2017 13:19

I love this way of eating, 2 meals a day that I really enjoy. I also enjoy the flat tummy in the morning. Unfortunately I woke up at 5 am this morning
and was back at work today so I had a soft boiled egg and granary toast, at 6, first breakfast in 9 days. Tomorrow I will be back on it. No weight gain over the weekend despite several wines, this works.

shamoffour · 06/06/2017 11:20

Well yesterday was a wash out!
Day one is today!! Still fasting but feeling much more determined today.

macnab · 06/06/2017 12:19

Can I have some of your determination sham?!

I fasted yesterday until 2pm, then had a poached egg on (low cal) toast (I'm not really bothered about low-carbing) then had a very small but yummy pizza with lots of veggie toppings at 6:30pm and nothing else for rest of the night.

Was planning on doing a 5:2 fast day today, but 10 mins ago after a bit of a stressful meeting I went to kitchen to get a coffee and was offered a biscuit - I ate one Blush It was a shortbread finger. I'm so annoyed, this is where I fall down, no bloody willpower at all! Still planning on not eating again until this evening, I have a small portion of curry in the fridge waiting for me, but I've probably ruined it all with that biscuit... ah well.

iknowimcoming · 06/06/2017 12:45

One shortbread biscuit won't ruin you, just put I behind you and keep going! I'm feeling more positive today even though I didn't actually do the shred DVD yesterday I'll try today but don't like doing it when people are around to laugh at me and dd is on study leave so no peace at the minute.

For those doing lchf - have you looked at the 5 most common reasons people struggle with it on diet doctor? I did yesterday and there was a particular item about salt deficiency which got me thinking - and I will be actively adding salt to my food now, which seems odd but the facts do stack up imo, anyway just thought I'd mention it! I'm still finding it a little hard to trust the 'new' idea of fat being good for you etc but am soldiering on regardless Smile

TeachesOfPeaches · 06/06/2017 12:50

Hi there, does a bullet proof coffee count as food? It's made with butter and coconut oil.

iknowimcoming · 06/06/2017 12:54

No teaches - you can have bulletproof coffee in the fasting time - does it actually taste really nice - I don't find it appealing but am prepared to be persuaded?

Giddyaunt18 · 06/06/2017 13:07

Hi all, no breakfast this morning and it's a work day but I was absolutely fine. Much easier than skipping breakfast on 5:2 because I know i can eat 4/500 cals at lunch if I want.I had a cup of tea at 7am then green teas until lunch at 12.30 of a couple of ryvitas with humous and small tuna salad plus an apple and a few almonds. I'm wearing a pair of size 10 trousers to work today and after having been off a week and not wearing them for a couple of weeks before that, I am pleased to declare that there is no muffin top, no tightly buttoned waist line. Grin GrinGrin

iknowimcoming · 06/06/2017 13:08

Well done giddy -

Giddyaunt18 · 06/06/2017 13:14

Don't sob iknow they are from Next and I doubt they are a true 10!

macnab · 06/06/2017 13:54

Thanks Giddy I know the biscuit isn't much I'm just annoyed at my lack of willpower but thinking about it I've been very 'good' since Thursday and really had no rubbish at all so I'll forget about it and move on. Well done on the comfortable fitting trousers, that's real incentive to continue!

Teaches I've never heard of bulletproof coffee and I'm not sure I like the sound of it! but let us know how you find it!

Eolian · 06/06/2017 16:48

A normal coffee with a splash of semi-skimmed might not count as food, but surely a bullet-proof coffee would, no? Butter and coconut oil are pretty calorific!

TeachesOfPeaches · 06/06/2017 17:20

It tastes okay actually! Make fresh coffee on the hob and then mix with butter and coconut oil in a bullet blender.

takethestairs · 06/06/2017 18:39

Can I join? I'm 43 and the biggest I've ever been. Size 18 and just under 5ft - how did I let it get this far? Blush

I found this thread Sunday and actually started 16:8 yesterday. Eating between 10.30-18.30 seems to fit my daily routine and I've found it ok yesterday and today.

I'm not going to weigh myself as I don't want to know my starting weight and I've always self-sabotaged if I don't see a result on the scales.

I'm going to use my clothes to determine if it's working. I'd like to be back in a size 10 by the end of the year. Do you think it's possible to drop 4 dress sizes in just under 7 months?

shamoffour · 06/06/2017 18:46

Macnab there is still time for it all to go wrongGrin

Welcome takethestairsSmile

I've actually had a really good day so far, superfood salad with chicken which was lovely from a kids cafe place I went to with the dc earlier some Greek yogurt with strawberries and flaked almonds this afternoon and I'm making some chicken and veg soup for dinner.
I'm going to slimming world tomorrow as I fine the fear of the weekly weigh keeps me on track. I combine the two diets which I find works well for me I just don't eat all the processed crap they promote.

takethestairs · 06/06/2017 19:09

Thank you shamoffour Smile

Your food today sounds delicious. There's no way I could do a public weigh-in though.

Had black tea at 7 & 8.30.

I then had a boiled egg, 20 nuts (mix of almonds, walnuts & Brazil nuts) and a nectarine at 10.30. Followed by a tea with a splash of milk.

Lunch was prawns, cottage cheese, lettuce, cucumber & tomatoes with a sprinkle of paprika and 2 ryvitas with another white tea at 1.30, then dinner of pork chop with beans at 5.30 and a white tea after.

Haven't had enough water - only about a litre.

Do you think that sounds balanced enough or am I missing something?

Sorry for epic food post, but want to make sure I'm on the right road to start with...

shamoffour · 06/06/2017 19:28

Takethestairs that looks good to me maybe some green veg with dinner?
In fairness only the person weighing you knows your weight and they never disclose your weight to anyone only how much you've lost.

Giddyaunt18 · 06/06/2017 19:36

Can I ask whether the 16:8 works when you are stilling eating 3 meals? I have dropped breakfast and only eating 2 meals between 12 and 6.30 with no snacks in between. So, I can see how I am loosing weight, I'm eating less calories. I have lost 1.5 lbs last week doing this but am not technically overweight so I doubt I would have lost any if I still ate 3 meals. Am I wrong?

Giddyaunt18 · 06/06/2017 19:36

LOSING!

takethestairs · 06/06/2017 20:19

I definitely need to up my green veg shamoffour.

I don't know from experience yet Giddy, but from what I've read it's meant to be that as long as you fast 16 hours your body changes the way it uses stored fat cells. It's due to the insulin needs changing. I'm still going to make healthy choices, but split it into 3. Let's hope I find out if it works soon.
