Hi I am almost 30 and now that I am all finished with babies and breastfeeding it's time to lose some weight!!! I have about 20kg to lose and the 5:2 diet has worked for me in the past. Is there any ladies who want to join me and make 2017 our year?
I really need some help to keep motivated.

Bit of a "meh" weigh in. Before the Xmas laze i had lost half a stone but managed to put 5lb of that back on through pure inactivity (ok and maybe a few jaffa cakes!) I have lost just under 1lb this week but a bit miffed with myself. Never mind a big walk today will kick start this week.

Onwards and downwards on the scales!

mycatwantstokillme1 · 08/01/2017 10:15

I didn't do 5:2 this week, I want to aim to start doing that in a couple of weeks, after I've got my body back used to not eating so much fat/sugar. So did what I used to do when I did SW and according to my scales have lost 2 and 3/4 lbs this week. Very happy but nervous about maintaining. Luckybee I'm rubbish at converting kg but well done on your loss, and you to jugotmail, it might be just under 1lb but it's still a loss. Good luck everyone else!

Toooldtobearsed · 08/01/2017 11:27

Weigh in and measuring done!

I have lost 4lbs (1.8kg) and half an inch of waist 😊

This week i am starting toning exercises to try and nip my waist in a bit more. I have upped my walks with dogs, have walked 49 miles this week, so quite happy with that.

I dreaded weigh in this morning, DH made a sticky toffee pudding yesterday, served with Baileys thick cream. Well, it would have been rude not to, wouldn't it? 😆

I am trying to make this a way of life, rather than a diet with an expiry date, so although i am being more aware of what i am eating, i will not be excluding anything i fancy! It is my birthday next weekend and son and DiL are cooking me a meal. I will be eating everything put in front of me and indulging in a glass or two!

How is everyone else doing?

Lucky BRILLIANT! It is a good feeling, isn't it?

Toooldtobearsed · 08/01/2017 11:32

Jug, better than putting another pound on! Tbh, i fully expect my weight loss to plateau out in the next couple of weeks, so a pound loss then will be a huge boost for me!

Cat, brill weight loss - and what is recommended to maintain (about 2lbs a week, i think).
I agree with you about maintaining. I know from past experience, i have a couple of weeks with no weight loss, or even a slight gain and think 'sod it'. I am toying with the idea of only weighing once a month after the first 4 weeks, but don't know how that will work......

FitbitAddict · 08/01/2017 13:10

Hi, can I join? I'm about 7kg over my preferred weight at the moment, it has been creeping up since last summer and at the moment I'm still about 3kg heavier than when I got back from 2 weeks of all inclusive holiday! No more excuses.

I used 5:2 about three years ago and return to it as I need it if things start heading in the wrong direction again. I lost about 12kg then.

I fasted on Thursday and Friday, and ran Thursday evening (which was fine) and Saturday morning (which was hard going!) Then we ate out last night so I only had a mango and banana until the evening meal (no dessert and didn't finish the main). So far today I haven't eaten, I'm not hungry yet. I will make up for it later, I expect.

Well done to those who have started losing already. I will weigh myself tomorrow morning and see what I've achieved so far.

mycatwantstokillme1 · 08/01/2017 20:15

Tooold, 4lbs is great, well done! My friend has regular monthly infusions at hospital as she has agressive MS, and every time she goes they weigh her. So she sticks to monthly, which is better for her because now she's so inactive due to the MS she can get despondant if she sees she'l only lost 1/2 lb one week. (Although she is in her ideal weight range, she wanted to get to the lower end of her ideal weight because she can't burn calories off so eaily now)
Also my dad who's 74 joined slimming world last June & so far has lost just over 2 stone. His weight loss is weird - in the first week he lost 8lb, then some weeks he'll maintain, some weeks he'll only lose 1 and others he'll lose 4. When he's maintained he can't understand it. I've told him to work out what he loses over a month rather than go by weekly, I think that works better for some people.

Hi Fitbit, welcome. I don't know how I'm going to do the 5:2 because I get such hunger headaches and can't concentrate when I'm so hungry. I'm no expert and am only saying this out of concern so don't laugh at me if I sound melodramatic (!) but is running when you're fasting safe? Don't you feel faint at all? Good luck, look forward to hearing from you again!

mycatwantstokillme1 · 08/01/2017 20:17

PS Lucky & Jug well done on your weight losses too!

jugotmail · 08/01/2017 22:41

Mycat i mix up my fast days so that I eat the day before and the day of my run as i worry about running on empty.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 09/01/2017 18:37

I lost 4lb in my first week. Very pleased. I've also quit alcohol and am going to the gym so I suspect that's also making a difference.

I like what you say about 'making it a lifestyle not a diet' Tooold. I'm hating weighing things out each fast day so am looking forward to when I just know what to eat.

Iamblossom · 09/01/2017 20:24

Kitchen closed at 494. Going to bed at 9 to watch silent witness and ensure it stays that way.

Find mondays reasonably easy as fast days as work from home that day, and am not in office where there is a "lunch hour".

It's the second FD I really struggle with these days. Having lost the weight I wanted I maintained for ages at 6:1. However a half stone I don't want has crept back on so I need to 5:2 properly again for a few weeks, and I can't believe how difficult I find it. 6:1 plus keeping within my TDEE on other days and relaxing at weekends is not working any more.....

Managed a 5km road run today - usually find exercising on a FD fine and actually helpful as it quells hunger pangs, but there wasn't much in the tank today.

Well done on all successes ladies. It really does work when you do it properly, and I (usually) find it a very forgiving lifestyle.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 10/01/2017 09:52

2nd fast day done - and I only lost a quarter of a lb! Utter bollocks. I was so good in between. Maybe some more will have gone by tomorrow, which will be the end of a week at this.

Iamblossom · 10/01/2017 11:16

Too that does seem harsh. I lost 4 pounds in a day! You know how it fluctuates though could be down to any number of reasons - don't give up!

LadySilvia · 10/01/2017 20:11

First fast day of week 2 done:
Raspberry porridge - 100cals
Rye bread with soft cheese and cucumber - 132cals
Italian beef stew - 225cals (and bloody lovely! Recipe attached).
Lost 3lb last week so down to 10st. Not a bad start! Grin

Ah boo. Today is my fourth fasting day. I caved earlier and shared cake with a friend. I'm also starving. Do I just write today off as a bad day and try an extra fast later in the week?

FitbitAddict · 11/01/2017 22:12

mycat I run on fast days often. Today I'd had nothing but peppermint tea and a couple of sugar-free Sula sweets when I went to the gym after work. If it feels a bit of a strain I just slow down a little.

truth there's always tomorrow or Friday, or just call it a mini fast (1000 cals or so) if things go awry.

Weigh in day tomorrow - so far 1.7kg down from last Thursday morning.

Roni1967 · 11/01/2017 23:26

Hello all fellow 5:2 dieters.
I did 2 fasting days, Monday and Tuesday and have lost.....3lbs. Yes, I am so pleased. I just needed that motivation.

My fasting days haven't been too bad - I have not eaten breakfast and ate 'lunch' early at 12 using 200 of my calories and left the other 300 for when I come in from work. No wine obviously though
Hope everyone has a good week, I'll post again next week. Not expecting as much of a loss as I have DS's 18th this weekend, and a glass (or 2!) of champers is on the cards

Newmanwannabe · 12/01/2017 04:01

My weight is not going down as fast as I'd like, but I have lost a few cm's. It's definitely getting easier. Even though I'm eating lots of salad and veges and drinking lots more water than usual I'm finding things a bit "sluggish" does anyone else have that?

brixtononmymind · 12/01/2017 12:11

newmanwannabe - try psyllium husk if you're feeling sluggish. No calories, just bulk fibre that you take with loads of water. It's pretty gross but helpful, with added bonus that it will also will help you feel full! You can usually get it at health food shops like H&B. I prefer the unprocessed husk, but my husband got some sort of ground up version that may or may not be more palatable (I haven't tried it).

jugotmail · 13/01/2017 10:02

Feeling optimistic about sundays weigh in as i have gone down to the final hole on my belt! Managed lots of walking this week but have yet to get back to running back to aquafit next week as well (this might count as a cold water swim).

Anyone looking for a low cal bread Lidls med sliced wholemeal is only 77cal and is bloody lovely toasted.

FitbitAddict · 14/01/2017 17:57

So I've lost 2kg since 5 Jan and ran like the wind this afternoon despite not eating all day. I think I was fuelled by the fudge I ate last night! I've done at least 10000 steps on non-running days too apart from Thursday when DH was ill and I couldn't bring myself to abandon him to his fate while I went to the gym. He's still suffering but I didn't let that stop me today!

jugotmail · 15/01/2017 08:36

Hoorah down another lb - a full one this time- and that actually means more than 1lb as i lost just under 1lb last week. I would like to see the stone number change down before the end of Jan so 3lb to go.

Well done on the run fitbit despite the snow! I still havent got back out there this year.

lollylegs · 15/01/2017 11:08

May I join belatedly too?
I have about 15kg to lose and have tried the 5:2 before. It seems the only one that works for me without feeling like I am severely depriving myself. However, I find after school hours sooooo hard! When the kids come home from school, the house is chaos and everyone wants your attention, I find that's when my FD just goes to pot because my stomach is shouting louder than all of them. Any tips greatly appreciated! :)

Balloondog · 15/01/2017 13:39

How's everyone doing?? I hope you're all starting to see some success. I've managed to lose 1.5 kg since starting and that's despite no exercise. My skin is looking pretty bad though despite lots more fresh veg and much less sugar than usual - hopefully it's just a 'detox' effect and will pass soon. This coming week will be a challenge though as I'm away at a conference so much less control over food options added to nervous eating - I'm presenting 3 times and tend to eat to calm nerves :-(

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 15/01/2017 14:08

Welcome lolly

I'm a bit disappointed today as I have put on 2lbs. Sigh.

More focus this week...

Newmanwannabe · 15/01/2017 23:39

Yesterday was about of an accidental fast day. I didn't eat breakfast because I had had a few drinks the night before, had lunch which was nachos and about 500 calories. Then went to work and it was so busy I didn't get chance to have dinner until 8pm so by then I was a bit over dinner and thought I'd just make it a fast day.. I did go to 689 calories with milk because I had a few cups of tea in the morning and two coffees at work.. do you think that's ok as it was the milk that tipped me over and I did nearly 15000 steps or am I on a slippery slope to cheating?
