Hi I am almost 30 and now that I am all finished with babies and breastfeeding it's time to lose some weight!!! I have about 20kg to lose and the 5:2 diet has worked for me in the past. Is there any ladies who want to join me and make 2017 our year?
I really need some help to keep motivated.

Picked up the chocolate bar at the shops again today - bought it this time and sat in the car with im sure a sex face as the first square melted in my mouth! Have locked the rest of the bar in the car (seriously contemplating going out into the cold to get it) had a date instead. Halo

ObamaSelf · 04/01/2017 22:08

Hello! Can I join you? Did the 5:2 for 2 months before Christmas and got down from 9 stone 10 to 9 stone 2 (I am 5'2 tall), which I was v. happy with. But back to 9 stone 6 after Christmas so need to restart again First fast day today, had boiled egg and herbal tea for breakfast, homemade veg soup for lunch (no idea how many cals in that, allowed 250) and then half a banana sliced with a spoonful of low fat yogurt tonight. Plus 3 coffees with milk but no sugar. Could murder a mince pie though!

Roni1967 · 04/01/2017 22:34

Hello Can I join too please? I have 20lbs to lose, and have never been this heavy! Too much Christmas drinking and eating on top of the holiday weight gain has left me in this state!
I have never properly done the 5:2, although a friend has and has kept his weight off for over 2 years. I think I will start with 4:3 as I need to see results to keep motivated. I will post my weight here every Wednesday, so here goes.....! Todays weight is 10st 5lbs (gulp!) I am a willowy 5 foot!!

mycatwantstokillme1 · 04/01/2017 22:47

My good news is that I've lost 2lb since Sunday but bad news is I don't think I'll ever be able to manage the fast days. I'm eating less and cut out nearly all sugar and bad fat, but I'm finding this really hard. Does anyone have any helpful tips? I really want to do this and don't want to crack and go back to binging on fatty & sugary food, am worried if I try & do the fasting days I'll just have a blow out! Any suggestions will be very grateful received because I want to get fitter and take better care of my body. Thanks!

LadySilvia · 04/01/2017 23:25

I'm at the end of my second fast day this week and am realising that I need to get out of the house more - temptation's abound at home! (I have MS though so getting out's not always easy especially in this bastard cold weather. 🙄)

My most filling mini-meal so far is 20g porridge oats with 150ml skimmed milk (126 cals). Was far too milky for me - even after 2 mins in the microwave - so will reduce milk to 100ml on my next fast day. I'd say I wasn't hungry for a good 6/7 hours, then I had 1/4 of a can of beans with toast for dinner (172 cals).

Does anyone else have a low cal success so far?

LadySilvia · 04/01/2017 23:26

low cal recipe* success

ClaireFraser · 04/01/2017 23:38

Count me in! Haven't read the thread yet but will come back in the morning and do so properly

Iamblossom · 05/01/2017 07:07

mycat what is it about it for you that is so hard? Is it the feeling of being hungry? Because for me the hardest thing was retraining myself that it is ok to be hungry, nothing bad is going to happen and it does pass...we are so used to eating as soon as we feel a pang. It does our bodies good to root around in the corners!!

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 05/01/2017 07:28

mycat (& LadySylvua) if it's recipes you want, the best meal I've made so far is salad (sorry!) As long as you don't add dressing etc you can have LOADS of green salad. I made one yesterday with rocket, cucumber, capers, celery, basil and parsley and was able to have a huge portion with cottage cheese for only 120 calories. I genuinely wasn't hungry for the afternoon then.

In terms of sticking to it, I'm keeping a bullet journal at the same time. It's not usually my kind of thing (too pretty and faffy!) but it's giving me something to keep me occupied (instead of eating!) in the evenings. In it, I've got lists of 'things to do instead of eating', 'low cal snacks', etc. It's corny but working for me (so far!!!!)

I also like the mantra "I can have it tomorrow"

luckybee123 · 05/01/2017 07:34

Welcome everyone.

Mycat it's always good to hear how other people are losing weight. It's funny but I find the hunger comes in waves. You don't just keep getting hungrier and hungrier, that really helps me through fast days because I know the hunger will fade soon enough.

I had an 'eating day' today and had a curry for lunch Blush it was for a colleagues birthday but I regretted it as soon as I ate it! Going to have a salad for dinner and look forward to my fast day tomorrow.

Another tip that I found helped me was to not weigh myself everyday. I could go up and down by 2kg each day depending on whether I fasted or not, it can be really unmotivating. Instead I weigh myself once a week on the same day.

Jug just reading your post makes me want a chocolate haha, on a side note when I went to the shops today they already had Easter eggs and hot cross buns out Shock they are setting us up to fail!

I'm loving the idea of the No S diet, I think that I will have to try and incorporate that next week.

I am slowly coming to the sad conclusion that I need to ditch snacks most of the time to maintain any weight loss - either that or massively up my exercise, and it's easier to eat less. Every time I lose weight I snack it all straight back on again. Portion sizes too, but that's harder to keep on top of without weighing everything, which I refuse to do. (Anyway, DH chucked the kitchen scales because they were broken, which I only discovered when I tried to make him a birthday cake, so I can't weigh anything atm.)

My fast day plan is to skip breakfast and lunch and then eat dinner - still not weighing, but I'm going to have steak and broccoli for dinner, which I reckon is about 400 calories, and my other 100 is going in milk for tea.

Newmanwannabe · 05/01/2017 13:08

Too. I've been doing it about four weeks now and I'm really finding I'm not that hungry on fast days now.

Have had 105 calories total today- homemade beans for dinner (different Timezone) and have 2x black coffees (normally have milk In my coffee but on a fast day seem to manage ok with black) and 3l of water. I would never have thought I'd manage to do that but it does get easier and I think your body adapts and gets used to it. I do have a mild headache at the moment, but it's more of a tired sort of headache. Stick with it and don't be too hard on your self Smile.

jugotmail · 05/01/2017 17:18

Think i need to start a thread on which chocolate i did or didnt eat today!

I have decided that my husband secretly wants me to remain on the rubenesqe side as he worked from home today and bought in a half eaten pack of jaffa cakes from the car and they taunted me all morning - treated myself to ONLY ONE after my ham and salad roll!

Loads of walking today and im feeling better now im back to normal routine. Weigh in is Sunday for me as i try to only do it once a week at the samish time.

Those of you struggling to start fasting try just cutting down the cals without being crazy about the 500 mark I quite often go with about 200 cals a meal when I start 5:2 (especially post Christmas when my body is convinced it should be fed every couple of hours) and I find that as time goes on im not so desperatly hungry as my body adjusts. I also use mfp to keep track of things although it is annoying when you make homemade and have to work it all out.

This thread is really helping to keep me motivated, thanks all.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 05/01/2017 19:14

I think I came in at about 600 calories altogether. I'm counting that as a win for my first fast day!

Does anyone else find that their mouth waters uncontrollably after eating on a fast day? I had 500 calories in one meal and my tummy is full but my mouth won't stop watering an hour later!

Iamblossom · 05/01/2017 20:09

That is an epic first fast day too

ObamaSelf · 05/01/2017 20:45

LadySilvia when you make the porridge do you just mix the porridge oats with the milk and then microwave for 2 mins, is that right?

mycatwantstokillme1 · 05/01/2017 21:23

Thank you all - I will def make a big salad and have it in the fridge and I agree that it will take my stomach a while to get used to not eating (actually, overeating really) and only eating what I need. I will perserve! If I get slightly hungry I want to eat 10 biscuits, and not 1. I've found a local overeaters anonymous and might go next week - I know it's not a diet club but it might help me to get to grips with understanding why I do it and how to control it. I will keep reading and getting tips and if I can share anything useful that I learn along the way I will share too. Thanks again

Toooldtobearsed · 05/01/2017 21:44

Cat, i know it is an oldie, but have you tried drinking when you feel hunger pangs?

I did tues and wed fisting, and had no problems. I had a pint glass of water, merely coloured with sugar free summer fruits squash (and i really mean tye vaguest taste/colour) on the go all day. Got through about six pints i think and can honestly say i was never past myself with hunger.

Another game i play with myself is
'Ohhh, i am hungry. Right, if i am still hungry in 20 minutes, i will have something to eat'.
Then get up and do something, anything.
I have never had to eat after 20 mins, because i have forgotten about being hungry!

I am being more 'aware' on my non fasting days too. STILL no wine consumed , have cut carbs quite a lot and had nothing sweet at all.

I am feeling so virtuous and pompous at the moment, almost dreading my weigh in on Sunday 😂😂

Keep going everyone, we will all find our own way 😊

Toooldtobearsed · 05/01/2017 21:46

FASTING!!!*

I spent tues and wed fasting! NOT the other 😲

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 05/01/2017 22:23

Hahahah. That made me laugh out loud TooOld.

I've totally blown away my earlier good work with a dominoes pizza. Bollocks.

mycatwantstokillme1 · 06/01/2017 09:04

toooldtobearsed thanks for both the tip and making me laugh like a drain first thing in the morning! I just have to keep going. I get hunger headaches but I am sure they will get easier to manage, I will keep on. Hope everyone else is feeling OK today too :-)

LadySilvia · 06/01/2017 12:08

Yup Obama - so easy to do!

Toooldtobearsed · 07/01/2017 13:20

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing?

Still going okay for me, have just been careful in how much i am eating, i think portion control may also be my downfall, but not calorie counting at all.

Weigh in day tomorrow for me, i think i have lost some weight, and have noticed i am not suffering from bloated belly, so fingers crossed😊

luckybee123 · 08/01/2017 08:25

Sorry I have not been posting, have had no reception over the weekend.
I have another fast day tomorrow and I will need it after this weekend away Blush
How is everyone else going?
