Hi I am almost 30 and now that I am all finished with babies and breastfeeding it's time to lose some weight!!! I have about 20kg to lose and the 5:2 diet has worked for me in the past. Is there any ladies who want to join me and make 2017 our year?
I really need some help to keep motivated.

How did those planning to fast today get on? I've failed miserably and eaten more than I did yesterday Angry will aim for starting again tomorrow

essieestherson · 03/01/2017 15:04

I've just joined this thread! Planned to start 5:2 again today.... have also failed! There is just so much chocolate around at the moment! Sad

Stingray2008 · 03/01/2017 16:07

I havent done well either im only on 400cal at the moment but not sure how to last the rest of the day!

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 03/01/2017 17:22

Stingray - not sure if it helps but I discovered yesterday that huge amounts of salad are only very low calorie so you could maybe fill up on salad?

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 03/01/2017 17:26

(She says, while wondering how she's going to cope with day 2 tomorrow)

Chipsandonionrings · 03/01/2017 18:29

I am doing my first fast tomorrow. I have work 9-3 and I work in a kitchen so get hot, sweaty and sick of the sight of food. I will probably have a veg smoothie or veg soup at dinner time.

Might drink a lot of water and black coffee to numb the hunger pains as used to running on about a gazillion cals at the moment!

jugotmail · 03/01/2017 19:59

Got my 10,000 steps in before 10.30 - told the boy that the car would take too long to defrost so we had to walk to school! Kept busy today with egg and toast for lunch and home made curry with rice for dinner.

High point today I picked up a choc bar at the shops and I PUT IT BACK! Willpower 1 extra 200cals 0

To all those who are struggling with their fast days... it took me about a month to get comfortable with fasting when I did it last year. Also after a month my brain fog and headaches had completely gone and I felt like I could think much clearer.
Something I always remember from the 5:2 documentary is that on fast days my body is getting a break from constantly processing food and it is now in 'repair mode'
It was amazing how much better I felt and how clear my skin was after 2 months! Right now my skin has broken out after all the bad food over Christmas.
I really struggled on my eating day yesterday. It's so weird but I was really looking forward to my fast day today because I don't have to worry about food. Yesterday I ate a ridiculous amount even though I was not hungry. Does anyone have any tips for eating days? I might have to start a food diary?

Well done jug

Yes milk in hot drinks does count but I drink black decaf coffee with sweetener most of the time. I also really like the dowe egberts hazelnut coffee which I also drink black.

Am going to fast again tomorrow ... Or try....I always feel a bit resentful on the second one, but will aim for sub 1000 at the very most ( a mini fast ) and am swimming at lunchtime. Got a 5km run in today.

luckybee123 · 03/01/2017 20:12

Forgot to say congratulations to everyone who is having weight loss and willpower wins!!!

luckybee. I feel like I ate loads today but am still under my 1650 tdee (calories I am "allowed" on eating days, not counting the exercise calories I burnt as I don't include them)

I would be much lower if I hadn't had toast for breakfast so I guess one tip would be no bread?

Breakfast was - large banana and two slices of wholemeal toast with flora and bovril
Lunch was - a whole carton of Covent Garden roast tomato and basil soup, 3 Ryvita with flora, 0% fat greek yoghurt with blueberries and 3 teaspoons of sunflower seeds
Snacks were - small satsuma, Braeburn apple, emmental cheese crispbread
Tea was - one Tescos lamb leg steak, grilled, with 100g of Sweetcorn, a whole leek and a whole courgette, steamed

I ran 5.6km in the freezing cold round the village, which means I am very tempted to have a couple of the bastard chocolate coins that will still have but I might not bother.

This is a pretty normal eating day for me, although I don't usually have bread for breakfast, usually it is a couple of boiled eggs, or I skip it altogether.

luckybee123 · 03/01/2017 21:02

Blossom I also have a whole container of Christmas chocolates that keeps calling out to me! I would love the throw it out but dh and kids would be upset... mainly dh.

We have loads too luckybee plus the delectable contents of a F&M hamper we got as a very generous Christmas present. There is no way I am throwing any of it out! It won't go off. Grin

luckybee123 · 03/01/2017 21:31

I think in my mind I sometimes think well I am not eating tomorrow so I will eat this now Blush and then I eat more and more lol. I am fasting today so don't have to worry but I will try my hardest on Friday to eat sensibly.

Iamblossom · 03/01/2017 21:36

Yes that is true I think that too, "might as well enjoy it now as I will go without tomorrow", supposed to be the other way round though!!

Stingray2008 · 03/01/2017 23:32

Ended up hitting 1300 cals today so will have to fast tomorrow dam jaffa cakes! Sill guess i ate alot less than usual

Toooldtobearsed · 04/01/2017 07:03

My first fasting day yesterday, and it went well. Drank lots of water throughout the day and kept busy, ate my only meal about 5:30pm.

No problems at all and was still awake and bouncing at 10pm, which is an added bonus !

Only problem i have is, like a reformed smoker, i am tut tutting with horror at how much DH is eating, every time he reaches for some chocolate he says he can feel disapproving eyes burning into his skull 😅

Second day today and i am putting the soup make to work with a nice vegetable soup.

Good luck everyone, and dont forget, just because you were going to fast today and did not, you can do it anytime! That is the beauty of this 'diet', one bad day does not ruin the whole week.

I love this idea. I'm keeping a bullet journal alongside the diet (something to do instead of eat!) so will add this to it later.

Luckybee - I read the 5:2 book at the weekend and it said that research shows that those people who record their meals do better than those who don't. At the moment I'm only recording fast days, but I'll add the other days if it seems to help.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 04/01/2017 13:39

Ooooooh, interesting. I just found a packet of flump-like marshmallows (the cheapo Home Bargains equivalent) left over from Christmas gifts for my dorm group. I've checked and they're only 34 calories each. Yum.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 04/01/2017 14:30

Please may I join? I'm going to do a combination of 5:2 and the No S Diet - but I'm not having weekends off for January! My fast days will be Mondays and Thursdays, and the other 5 days I will eat 3 meals with no snacks, seconds or sweets. I did No S before Christmas but lost nothing, even though it felt like I was eating much less, so I need the fasting to actually get some weight off.

I'm 5'2" and weighed in this morning at 11 stone 7.25, woe! I am horrified at myself. My waist is 31 inches. I looked at the NHS BMI calculator and my healthy range is 7 stone 3 up to 9 stone 11. I could be 4 stone lighter and still healthy, FFS! Very cross with myself. My first goal is 9 stone 11.

I'm going to exercise a lot - the Shred, 2 trampoline classes a week, and I had wondered about running but I might leave it until it gets lighter in the mornings.

Chipsandonionrings · 04/01/2017 15:28

On first fast day and just in from work. I won't be having a meal as I have probably had my 400 cals tasting the food. I will have a cup of hot stock later.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 04/01/2017 19:20

What's the 'No S diet' ExtraImmature?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 04/01/2017 20:18

The No S Diet is no snacks, no sweets and no seconds, except for on days starting with S. So you have 3 plates of food a day 5 days a week. No soda (it's American) either. Then at weekends you can do what you like. I did it for 8 weeks and lost nothing, but I was working on reducing my portion sizes and I'm pretty short. Other people on my thread lost about half a pound a week. I like it for setting out what moderation means. I think it will work well with 5:2 because when I've tried 5:2 before I've buggered it up by eating too much on the non-fast days.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 04/01/2017 21:42

I'd be useless at that. Snacks are my downfall!
