Starting on Monday - anyone want to be my buddy?

I'm planning on starting next week - it's my birthday on Thursday so want to wait until after then!

I'm 32, 5'7 and have about 5 stone to lose. I have a 10 month old DS and I have recently been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid gland, which slows the metabolism and makes it harder to lose weight - I started treatment 2 weeks ago and am already feeling much better, so I'm hoping to find losing weight a bit easier. 2 stone of this weight has been gained since having DS, which I feel ashamed about, but have been feeling exhausted and depressed (due mostly to the thyroid, it turns out) and have compensated by comfort eating. Confused

I really hope this will be a solution to 8 years of yo-yo dieting, which have taken me from a size 10 to a size 18 Confused A little nervous of the hunger, but I know it won't kill me.

Does anyone want to be my buddy, for a bit of mutual support?

I'm sure it helps that I have a lot to lose in the first place.
Let us know what the scales say tomorrow Peas. Fingers crossed for you.

PeasandCucumbers · 01/09/2013 15:37

Well not that great, a 1lb loss. Better than nothing and my bmi is now between 24 -25 so am pleased with that. It is TOTM at the moment (started yesterday) so am sort of using that as an excuse for not losing the 2lbs I was aiming for.

FD again tomorrow and will try to be a little bit more careful on NFD's and see if that helps. As DH said at least it is going in the right direction, albeit slowly!!!

Wearytiger · 01/09/2013 19:49

peas I am on a 1lb weight loss a week. Honestly I am happy with it, I know the weight's not shifting quickly but I would much rather have slow and steady weight loss that doesn't require much effort on my part or disrupt my social life. Hang on in there! A pound a week is 50lb in a year!

PeasandCucumbers · 01/09/2013 22:21

Thanks weary I agree but I only weigh in once a fortnight!!! I was hoping for 2lbs and would have been happy with that. I'm not overly disappointed and am definitely not giving up. TBH it was probably a 1lb loss this week and nothing the week before due to enjoying the bank holiday a little too much Wink

Wearytiger · 02/09/2013 06:38

peas I've just weighed in and lost nothing this week! Ironic as is my first week of no loss! So I know how you feel! Next week will be better i hope!

PeasandCucumbers · 02/09/2013 08:32

FD for me again today, I always find it easier to get one out of the way early in the week. Hope everyone has had a good weekend Smile

weary I was working out cals etc last night and my TDEE is around 1800 which means eating to that for 5 days and then 500 on 2 days results in a calorie deficiency of 2600 per week. Everything I have read says that for a 1lb loss you need to drop 3500 cals so I can't aim for more than that off each week but as you said it still adds up over a year and overall it is not a very restrictive diet!

PeasandCucumbers · 03/09/2013 20:58

Well I bombed out again yesterday, second week in a row that I have abandoned a FD!! Anyway I have pulled it back today with a really good (and easy) FD. I still have about half my cals left to eat. It's just weird how some days are so difficult and others it is so easy. I have been really busy today getting the children ready for school tomorrow so that always helps, but I was at work yesterday so not just sat around the house! I might figure it out eventually!!

Wearytiger · 03/09/2013 21:25

I did a fast day yesterday. It's really becoming routine for me now. I do sometimes slip up but more out of poor planning than because I can't do the fast, iyswim. As per what you were saying peas,I have worked out that on a lb a week I can achieve my first goal (shift post preg 1.5 stone) by the start of November. I will be so delighted if I can lose a stone and a half between July and November, I have never ever lost weight before!

Wearytiger · 03/09/2013 21:26

Btw spaniel are you still out there? Just wanted to give you some more Flowers!

AphraBehn · 04/09/2013 11:04

Did my two FDs last week, showing an overall loss on Saturday morning and then went out and got utterly and spectatularly drunk on Saturday night. So drunk it took me until Monday to feel normal again. Unfortunately my recovery was in part due to the huge amount of fats, sugar and carbs I ate Blush.

Will repair the damage this week.

Luvvies · 05/09/2013 08:54

Well I fasted on Monday and yesterday. Scales show no loss since last Friday so I'm going to do another one today just to help things along.
Not done back to back before, interested to see how it goes.

PeasandCucumbers · 05/09/2013 22:09

FD for me again today and it has gone well. I am out tomorrow evening so depending on whether I am hungover or not I may do a third FD at the weekend. Have been out for a long walk with a friend this evening so hopefully burned off a few more calories whilst also taking my mind off food Grin

How did back to back FD go luvvies? Sounds pretty hardcore!!!

Luvvies · 05/09/2013 22:33

It's been absolutely fine. To be honest I haven't struggled yet with hunger on any FDs. I just kept very busy. Today I had a half portion of beef and black bean sauce (194 cals), a slice of toast, green salad and a raw carrot!
And an options hot choc.
Which totals 395.

I think I may be 1 lb down in the morning. If so it will be 1lb this week. Which is less than my previous weeks and I've had 3 fasts and not overeaten on NFDs.

But I'm not complaining.

I'll update in the morning.

Luvvies · 06/09/2013 07:33

Just sneaked 1lb off
Stats: 10lbs, 4weeks.

PeasandCucumbers · 06/09/2013 08:24

Wow luvvies that's brilliant! This is week 6 for me and as of last Sun I had lost 5lbs. I have been really good this week so hoping to have lost another 1lb this week which would make 6lbs in 6 weeks which I would be happy with. I am not supposed to be weighing in this week but I am very tempted to so we will see how I feel on Sun

Have a good weekend everyone, I'm going to try not to undo all my good work this evening!!!

Wearytiger · 06/09/2013 19:14

luvvies great work! aphra you sound like my kind of dieter...

On a fast today, will try very hard not to weight myself before Monday morning

PeasandCucumbers · 07/09/2013 23:12

Aphra I'm guessing I feel today like you did last Sun! Was actually ill last night when I got home Blush and I really can't remember the last time that happened. Poor DH then had to babysit me! Had to take DD to ballet in a taxi at lunchtime, funnily enough she didn't ask why weren't going in the car.

Anyway the upshot of all this has been a fairly modest day calorie wise today and clearly no alcohol tonight (or for a while!!!) I still feel awful and am really hoping that Iwill feel normal again in the morning but given how I feel now I am not holding out much hope!!

DH has convinced me not to weigh tomorrow and to stick to fortnightly so will have to try and have a really good week and hold out til next Sun for a weigh in (which is my wedding anniversaryGrin)

Luvvies · 08/09/2013 10:36

Bah! Four lbs back on since Friday!
Maybe I just need a big poo?

Careful day today and FD tomorrow.

rusmum · 08/09/2013 11:47

I'm starting tomorrow! 20lb to lose. Been yo yo ing so hoping this issues a long term solution! No idea what I'm having bit going to fast mon and we'd, eat breakfast and lunch but skip tea!!

PeasandCucumbers · 08/09/2013 17:26

Well I am having another FD today as I wanted 3 this week and at least 2 of my NFD's I ate less than my TDEE so hopefully will see results next weekend. Have only had an apple to eat so far. I know tomorrow would not have been a good day to fast on so will have to be Tues & possibly Thurs this week.

Welcome to rusmum Smile

Luvvies you have still lost 6lbs which is more than I had at my last weigh in and I had done 5 weeks at that point so try not to be too disappointed.

AphraBehn · 08/09/2013 18:30

Ha peas, that's not a FD, it's a 2 day hangover Wink.

FD for me, doing one on a Sunday is hard and my family are grumpy because I haven't cooked a roast. Off to London for a friend's birthday tomorrow. I shall be avoiding cocktail bars as it isn't seemly to get drunk on a Monday night.

AphraBehn · 08/09/2013 18:31

welcome along rusmum

AphraBehn · 08/09/2013 18:32

well done luvvies. Have you 'been' yet?

Luvvies · 08/09/2013 19:25

Aphra I "went" and dropped a lb. Not 4, but the right direction!

Wearytiger · 08/09/2013 20:33

Hi rusmum... I may join you tomorrow or fast on Tuesday, haven't decided yet! It gets much easier after the first week btw!
