Starting on Monday - anyone want to be my buddy?

I'm planning on starting next week - it's my birthday on Thursday so want to wait until after then!

I'm 32, 5'7 and have about 5 stone to lose. I have a 10 month old DS and I have recently been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid gland, which slows the metabolism and makes it harder to lose weight - I started treatment 2 weeks ago and am already feeling much better, so I'm hoping to find losing weight a bit easier. 2 stone of this weight has been gained since having DS, which I feel ashamed about, but have been feeling exhausted and depressed (due mostly to the thyroid, it turns out) and have compensated by comfort eating. Confused

I really hope this will be a solution to 8 years of yo-yo dieting, which have taken me from a size 10 to a size 18 Confused A little nervous of the hunger, but I know it won't kill me.

Does anyone want to be my buddy, for a bit of mutual support?

Thanks Wink having ? For brekkie, tuna salad for dinner, skipping tea, having coffee but counting milk as calories! ???

Wearytiger · 09/09/2013 08:01

I weighed in this morning and have lost another pound so that's ten pounds in total. Hopefully this means I am back on track to lose 1.5 stone by nov (any time would be good but to coincide with my son's birthday would be absolutely great!) Prob fasting tomorrow as have a friend round today ...

AphraBehn · 09/09/2013 08:18

1.6lbs off for me, have been stuck at around x stone 9/10lbs for a few weeks as my exercise routine went to pot over the holidays so it was good to finally see xstone 8.2lbs!

Luvvies · 09/09/2013 08:27

Well done Weary and Aphra
FD for me too today.

PeasandCucumbers · 09/09/2013 13:28

Well done on those losses ladies!! I am feeling a little bit guilty now eating my lunch of lovely bread and brie from the deli down the road from work!! That's not really going to help the cause is it!

Ahpra your comment made me laugh but actually yesterday I was feeling normal again, thankfully!

Planning on fasting tomorrow and them probably Thurs this week. I am really hoping I will have some good news to share at the weekend and am still not sure whether I did the right thing by waiting until next weekend to weigh in as if I had done so yesterday and it wasn't good it may have given me a push to be stricter this week (and not eat bread and Brie for lunch!!)

Neitheronethingortheother · 09/09/2013 15:57

Am back fasting today after a break over the summer. Had a lovely salad box with some ham for lunch and will have some sea bass and stir fry for dinner. Going to try Monday and Wednesday.

PeasandCucumbers · 10/09/2013 20:24

Hi Neither, if you don't mind me asking how long were you doing 5:2 for before your break and have you put any weight back on since stopping?

I had a day of totally forgetting about losing weight yesterday, after my bread & cheese for lunch I then shared a curry with DH for dinner and had one chunk of a very big toblerone and a glass of wine. Back on it today with a FD, so far so good Smile

becky78 · 11/09/2013 09:09

Hi, can I join? I've done about 5 weeks on 5:2 now but went on holiday in the middle so mostly cancelled out the good work I had done! Back on the wagon now and FD today (2nd this week) but just dropped my 9mth old DS at nursery for the first time and after both leaving in tears it is taking all my willpower to not crack open the packet of chocolate digestives in the kitchen cupboard :-( I'm 34, have two boys (3 & 9mths), 5'2 and I've lost 4lb so far and a further 1.5 stone to lose.

I've been stalking following this thread for a few weeks and you all seem lovely and at a similar stage to me so thought I would post.

Luvvies · 11/09/2013 10:01

Hi Becky and welcome to the team. I think we started at around the same time. Stay strong today and keep busy! Second FD of the week for me too today.

AphraBehn · 11/09/2013 10:44

Welcome Becky.

FD for me today and I have been for a 3k run as well. Hoping to get back up to 5k by the end of the month.

Need to decide if I am going to have sausages tonight with rest of the family or if they are a massive waste of calories.

Wearytiger · 12/09/2013 00:37

Fast day for me tomorrow. Will be hard as I have done an aphra and am now posting this after many many cocktails! But will try my best to get through as the alternative of a weekend fast is not pleasant to contemplate!

AphraBehn · 12/09/2013 08:15

well done wearytiger Grin. Hope you feel ok today though.

mmax33 · 12/09/2013 11:55

Hi Guys, would it be ok for me to join?! I need some support! I started about three weeks ago and have been struggling as I love my food! I used to be 9 1/2 stone always!! But since getting pregnant, I just used it as an excuse to eat and eat some more! My little boy is 10mths now so need to do something about it!

When I started the 5:2, I was 12st 10 and at 5 ft 6 I feel very uncomfortable in myself. I weighed myself this morning and I'm 11st 13, although I don't feel any better! I survive on very strong coffee during the day. I'm worried as we're going on holiday tomorrow and I now that I'm going to cave in and tuck into anything!! I do enjoy a good glass (bottle!) of wine and decent slab of cheese! How do people cope with holidays/eating out etc. Also, I'm still bf-ing - only twice a day but it doesn't seem to have affect it? I think I must eat enough on my non fast day!

PeasandCucumbers · 12/09/2013 12:17

Hope today is going OK Weary and that the hangover isn't too bad Grin I'm fasting today too as I couldn't' face a weekend fast (though I did fast on Sun last week). My first bout of hunger is just passing and I have a veggie sushi pack ready for late afternoon at 200 cals.

Hi to the newbies Smile

Am off work today but have 150 pages left of my book and wine club book club is tomorrow night so that is my afternoon taken care of till 3 when I go to collect the DC

Wearytiger · 12/09/2013 22:17

Couldn't do it. I felt weak! But I will definitely fast tomorrow and Sunday... Not ideal but I only have myself to blame!

Wearytiger · 12/09/2013 22:18

Hi becky and mmax!

Luvvies · 13/09/2013 07:35

Hi everyone and welcome to mmax, that's great going!

If you remember I'm a daily weigher and had a shock of putting back on 4 lbs last weekend after my proper weekly weigh in. Pleased to say I've dropped those off again and lost one more.

Stats: 11 lbs in 5 weeks.

thefirstmrsrochester · 13/09/2013 17:55

Hi all, do you mind if I join you?
I've been in denial about my weight for years. 11.5 stone at 5.1ft. It ain't pretty. It's obese Sad.
I'm a lazy self indulgent sod with a lifelong love of cheese, wine and crisps.
I think I will be able to handle the fast days just fine as I've got two days a week when I'm crazy busy with work and running around after the dc.
Plan to start on Monday.
Wish me luck!

Wearytiger · 13/09/2013 19:02

Hello mrsr, come out of the attic then? Smile good to have you join us! I did a fast day today, honestly when you're really busy they're so easy. Sadly I think Sunday will be harder!

AphraBehn · 16/09/2013 09:18

No loss for me this week but I only did one FD. Am fasting today and Thursday this week.

Wearytiger · 16/09/2013 12:22

1 lb loss for me this week bringing my total to 11lb in about ten or eleven weeks. There is something really appealing to me about 5:2 and the precision of the loss... Ticking down a lb each week is so satisfying. Obviously on weeks that I don't manage two fasts it will be different but aphra at least you haven't put weight on! Call it a maintenance week!

Fasting wed and fri I think. Definitely trying to avoid weekends as doing my fast yesterday was a bit rubbish ... Sunday isn't Sunday without Sunday lunch!

Luvvies · 19/09/2013 08:48

How's everyone getting on? I've had good FDs on mon and weds and I'm down a lb since last Friday. But my weekly weigh in using until tomorrow and I've a business lunch today and a meal out tonight, so I'm not sure whether that will stay off. Will try to make some lightweight choices today!

becky78 · 19/09/2013 10:37

FD 2 this week for me today. Another emotional week as DS1 started preschool so left him in tears (I know he is fine now and it's just me leaving that sets him off but still makes me feel like a horrible mum - irrational Sad) and my gran passed away at the weekend so trying to resist the comfort eating. Doing ok so far.

I am going to weigh tomorrow and hoping to have dropped another lb, have managed to undo the damage I caused going on holiday so that is good. Had a pretty bad weekend food wise - takeaway, service station food etc. so not hugely confident but we shall see.

Hope everyone is doing well, I am super impressed with the discipline of people who do weekend FD's, I'm def not strong enough to resist bacon sandwiches/roast dinners etc!!

Wearytiger · 19/09/2013 11:17

Oh becky, you are doing really well to keep up with fasts under the circumstances. Don't push yourself too hard. I'm very sorry for your loss but hope that your DS is a bit if a distraction. My dd has started school ... She loves it but hates wearing her uniform so every day is a battle to convince her not to go in just in a vest and pants!

becky78 · 19/09/2013 21:15

Thanks weary, DS loves the idea of school - the teachers, the uniform etc but goes to pieces when I have to leave. He did the same his nursery too, hoping he gets over it quickly. We seem to have opposite problems!!

Managed to come in under 500 cals today though so pleased with that - fingers crossed scales are kind tomorrow.
