Starting on Monday - anyone want to be my buddy?

I'm planning on starting next week - it's my birthday on Thursday so want to wait until after then!

I'm 32, 5'7 and have about 5 stone to lose. I have a 10 month old DS and I have recently been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid gland, which slows the metabolism and makes it harder to lose weight - I started treatment 2 weeks ago and am already feeling much better, so I'm hoping to find losing weight a bit easier. 2 stone of this weight has been gained since having DS, which I feel ashamed about, but have been feeling exhausted and depressed (due mostly to the thyroid, it turns out) and have compensated by comfort eating. Confused

I really hope this will be a solution to 8 years of yo-yo dieting, which have taken me from a size 10 to a size 18 Confused A little nervous of the hunger, but I know it won't kill me.

Does anyone want to be my buddy, for a bit of mutual support?

Great going weary!

PeasandCucumbers · 22/08/2013 18:46

That's fantastic weary! In fact just sticking to a WOE for 8 weeks is fantastic!

FD for me tomorrow. Will have had 3 NFD's in between but I will be busy so should be fine, will just need to resist the temptation of a drink on a Fri evening!

Wearytiger · 22/08/2013 19:31

Yes the way of eating point is definitely what makes me proudest. I have literally never dieted before in my life and just have always thought I had no will power but now I think it's at least in part because other diets are artificially restrictive. If the worst that ever happens is that you can eat it tomorrow, anyone can hold back!

Luvvies · 23/08/2013 07:18

Weigh in - 3 lb this week, which is 6lb in total over 2 weeks. Chuffed to bits.

Wearytiger · 23/08/2013 08:51

Brilliant luvvies, celebrate this weekend! Fast day for me today!

randomwhistle · 23/08/2013 16:17

Great results weary and luvvies! Weigh in day for me tomorrow down boots, will post when I get back. 3lb would be lovely but any loss is a thumbs up!
Bought myself a size 10 dress to wear for baby's 1st birthday in November. I'm going to hang it up on my wardrobe no escaping it then.
Fast day for me yesterday and another on Sunday. Anyone on mfp want to be buddy's?

randomwhistle · 24/08/2013 10:19

5lb off for me this week bringing my BMI down to 28!!!!! I'm so happy, I did have the worst period of my life so that's contributed but I've had 3 fast days and no more than 1200 on the other days.

Luvvies · 24/08/2013 14:06

Random that's brilliant, really well done, although I'm so sorry to hear you've been going through a tough time.

randomwhistle · 24/08/2013 14:48

Thanks luvvies! Though by 'period' I mean my monthly! Just incase anyone thinks something dreadful has happened!

randomwhistle · 24/08/2013 15:18

Anyone on mfp want to add me? I'm Natty85Natty

Luvvies · 24/08/2013 20:16

Oops and phew Grin

Luvvies · 26/08/2013 16:03

So I've been out to lunch today with a friend who feels she can't do 5:2 as she'll get too hungry, fair enough. I'm not one to evangelise. I really think you have to find what works for you.

But she has a constant "got to be good" approach. Not for me.

I was watching a TV show following 3 slimming clubs the other day, did anyone see that? Again, all credit to those people losing weight their way, but I'm really pleased that I've found this one.

Still early days I know.

Random, I applaud your 1200 on your NFDs. My BMI is much higher than that too. (No wonder haha).

But I am finding I am not thinking about food as muich on NFDs. Could be new meds though - side effect of loss of appetite. Is that cheating I wonder? Either way, can't complain.

Hope everyone's doing well, don't lose interest in this thread guys! Newbies welcome to join - although there are other main threads on this topic - this is just a little side one.

randomwhistle · 26/08/2013 16:16

I'm still here luvvies, hopefully the thread will wake up a bit, gone very quiet! I'm having another fast day today going to go for 4 this week just to try and get a good loss ready for the kids going back! I'm enjoying having the one meal and because its something tasty I don't feel like I'm fasting. I had a vegetarian tesco Kiev and half a packet of ainsley couscous.

Luvvies · 26/08/2013 16:41

Four!!!!!! Wow you sure??? That's hard core.

Glad you're ok though. I was imaging all sorts! I blame my meds (list of side effects your arm long, mainly cognitive processing), so good example there "period", now, what could that mean? Durrrrr

FD for me tomorrow and Thurs or Fri.

randomwhistle · 26/08/2013 16:53

That's me I'm solid ;-)
I had to clear up the confusion with the 'worst period of my life' though in all honesty to milk lots of attention would of been fab!
I'm looking forward to my bed, children are down the beach with my parents (except baby who is tormenting the cats).
Are you doing the one meal on fd or splitting calories?

PeasandCucumbers · 26/08/2013 23:46

I'm still here but I think people are probably just enjoying the BH weekend. I have enjoyed it too much I think and have eaten far too much today!! Was toying with the idea of a FD which obviously didn't happen but will have to tomorrow I think despite a planned picnic with friends.

Have been feeling quite demotivated this weekend but that is probably due to DH being away ( home first thing tomorrow Smile) and have been really tempted to weigh despite only planning on doing it once a fortnight.

Please don't give up on this thread people as it is really helping me even when I am not actually posting.

Hope everyone has enjoyed a guilt free BH Smile

Wearytiger · 27/08/2013 06:16

I'm fasting today as well. Four day week people, hurray!

PeasandCucumbers · 27/08/2013 08:46

FD for me today too. We are going to a friends for lunch and I have just sent her text to tell her that I won't actually be eating!!

Am thinking that I may need to do 3 FD's this week as I feel I have overeaten and I really want to see a difference on the scales when I weigh in on Sun. Has anyone ever done back to back fasts? I haven't actually read anything about 5:2 other than what is on these pages so wondering whether this is 'allowed' or not

Hope your FD goes well today weary Smile

butterandcrumpets · 27/08/2013 08:48

Am still here too. Have started to prepare the new school year and had cut myself off from all distractions for a couple of days to get things going. Had a fast day yesterday which I struggled through and came in at about 700cals (TOTM never a good week) and will fast again tomorrow. Hope everyone is well and had a relaxing Bank Holiday.

butterandcrumpets · 27/08/2013 08:52

Hi Peas, I did a back to back a couple of weeks ago. It was ok, I wasn't any hungrier on the second day. It's not recommended though I think although I don't know why.

PeasandCucumbers · 27/08/2013 18:16

Well so far so good, an apple, a few cucumber slices and a couple of cherry tomatos during the day followed by a stew type thing that I just made up as I went along and is about 300 for a big pot (veggie with some lentils). Have had about half so far and will finish it later with enough cals for an options and small snack this eve :)

AphraBehn · 28/08/2013 20:04

First FD for me in nearly 2 weeks Blush. Last week was a write off with an awful TOTM so I haven't weighed myself at all this week as I didn't want to be disappointed with a gsin. I'll hope for an overall loss next week.

Lovely to hear all your success stories though. Well done all Smile.

PeasandCucumbers · 28/08/2013 23:52

Feeling more positive about it all again now and had a good FD yesterday.

I was hoping to do 3 FD's this week which would have meant back to back fasts as I want to weigh on Sun as that will be 2 weeks since my last weigh but I don't want to weigh the day after a fast as my last weigh wasn't and I want to keep things similar. If I weigh the day after a FD I think it will better than it would be otherwise and more unrealistic.

Anyway I have now decided 3 FD's in one week including 2 back to back is too much so am going to do 2 FD's, 4 normal days plus one reduced calorie day but not as low as 500. Hopefully this combined with the 10 mile bike ride I did this evening will result in at least a 2lb loss!!!

Sorry for the rambling!!!

Luvvies · 30/08/2013 05:28

Up early to catch a train. Quick check in with a weigh in. Another 3 lb this week, total 9 lb over 3 weeks.

PeasandCucumbers · 30/08/2013 21:54

Well yesterday was supposed to be a FD but by mid afternoon, having sat in a single meeting from 9, I succumbed to the chocolate chunks that had been on the table all day and had 2. If it had not been for these the day would not have been too bad, but probably still over 500 as once I knew I had blown it I did lose interest!!

So it was take two today and am currently around 440 Grin As I said in an earlier post I was planning on 2 FD's which I have now achieved with one other low cal day which thanks to yesterday's fail I have also achieved. Fingers crossed for the scales on Sunday!!!

Luvvies that is amazing!!! I will be super chuffed if I get a 3lb lose in 2 weeks, I am hoping for 2 but not overly confident, I may be asking for tips next week!
