Fasting / 5:2 diet

Starting on Monday - anyone want to be my buddy?

I'm planning on starting next week - it's my birthday on Thursday so want to wait until after then!

I'm 32, 5'7 and have about 5 stone to lose. I have a 10 month old DS and I have recently been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid gland, which slows the metabolism and makes it harder to lose weight - I started treatment 2 weeks ago and am already feeling much better, so I'm hoping to find losing weight a bit easier. 2 stone of this weight has been gained since having DS, which I feel ashamed about, but have been feeling exhausted and depressed (due mostly to the thyroid, it turns out) and have compensated by comfort eating. Confused

I really hope this will be a solution to 8 years of yo-yo dieting, which have taken me from a size 10 to a size 18 Confused A little nervous of the hunger, but I know it won't kill me.

Does anyone want to be my buddy, for a bit of mutual support?

Well I don't know what's happened, but I have PUT ON a lb. I've had 2 FDs as normal, not over eaten at all. And usually on my FD, which was yesterday I would see a next day drop of 1-2lb anyway, but this time nothing.

My legs do need a shave though...

Hmm

These things happen for all sorts of reasons I bet. I read that occasionally during a diet your body will start trying to stop the weightloss while it processes recent changes. I'm sure you'll be on the move again!

I've lost one stone AND one lb! Unbelievable! I am really really pleased. My first goal is 1.5 stone with a shopping spree to motivate myself... It's in sight!

Hope everyone else is doing well. I would never have done it without this thread. Thanks to all of you!

Poshpaula, just seen your post. I get a bit lightheaded mid afternoon sometimes too. TBH I just have a drink and push on through. It normally passes very quickly.

My top tip from last time i did it is make a vat of veg soup. Mine is cooking now. I'll eat it all day and its only 300 cals in total. I'll be dick of soup but not hungry Grin

Congrats wearytiger!

I slept badly again last night. I stayed up till 2am because I could tell it was going to happen, but only fell asleep about 5, again. I could understand if it was the night I fasted, but why would it happen the night afterward? I've got no intention of giving up, I'm feeling good on this, and when I did a sneaky extra weigh in today the scales had dropped by another pound Smile

Because of illness and social commitments I moved Wednesday's fast to Thursday and am doing Sunday's fast today, so will only have one day between fasts this week. I'm apprehensive about what that will do to Sunday's sleep!

Well done weary that's fab news.

A massive row with DH led to abandoning yesterday's FD (I'm not normally an emotional eater) and now I've got a head cold and it's totm. I can't see me hitting the stone mark on next week's weigh in now so shall have this week as a maintenance week. Still on course to hit the x stone exactly by the 31st though so that's something.

gatorade how long have you been doing 5:2 for?

Well done weary, great news.

Luvvies and aphra, not to worry, everyone's made great progress so we're all bound to have a blip.

1lb on for me too this week. Partly down to giving up breast feeding DS2 on Tues so not burning up those handy extra 500 cals anymore - guess I might have to resort to some sort of exercise! :-( not helped myself today by going to an all you can eat oriental buffet so going to do my FD's this week and hope to maintain then get back on the wagon properly the next week.

Have a good weekend all Smile

I slept well last night, maybe I'm adjusting now Smile

I actually feel slightly nervous that I don't have a fast day until Wednesday. I'm going to try to eat sensibly over the next couple of days. I read that we should be sticking within 2000 cal on 'feast' days, and I doubt I've been doing that.

Going back to eating when I'm hungry is nice. For years I've been making myself eat breakfast, and doing that thing of eating every three hours to rev my metabolism up, and clearly it wasn't working for me because the pounds piled on!

I messed up yesterday. Half an hour before going to bed I had a sudden binge - crisps, chocolate and icecream. I'm fitting in an extra fast day tomorrow to make up for it.

Gone a bit quiet on here recently - how did everyone get on this week?

2lb off for me which I'm really pleased with, hoping to get back to my 1lb a week routine next week and keep them ticking down. Back at work this week after mat leave - hoping stress burns additional calories!!

Sorry, have had some crazy times, mum in hospital with knee replacement, stressy work, birthdays (with cake, mine and my son's) so I've had a week off.

Back onto it next week.

Think I will have put on a couple of pounds at least.

So much for being the first to hit the stone on this thread!!

But well done to everyone else.

I've had a really stressful couple of weeks. Also had a small operation yesterday so am finding it difficult as have been feeling wobbly from the anasthetic.

Need to have a read round the board to reignite the motivation.

On the plus side, I was 3lbs lighter fully dressed on the hospital scales than I was undressed on my home ones that morning!

I've been carrying on. I have had some very vivid dreams, including one where I was a serial killer, my son was my accomplice and we got a lift on One Directions tour bus to get to our next victim.

I've been good on fast days but eating whatever I fancy on the other days, and it turns out that two 500 cal days are not a get out of jail free card for me. I gained some weight back. I have still lost six pounds in three weeks but I'm aware it could be better!

Morning all, welcome back Luvvies and Aphra, happy belated birthday and get well soon respectively (hurrah for hospital scales!!).

Well done Gator, 2lb a week is still a healthy weight loss so don't beat yourself up, if you are only changing things on FD's and eating as before on other days (like me) then this is not a quick fix, it is a slow steady weight loss plan that doesn't impact on your life so much that after a few months you give up because either you can't cope with sticking to it, or you reach goal and celebrate by going out for the pizza you've been dying for for months and then steadily put the weight back on (in my experience). If it helps, if you stay on track you are losing at least half a stone a month so this time next year, in theory you could be 6 stone lighter (obviously depending how much you have to lose)!!

1lb off again for me. I've done some calculations and if I can maintain 1lb a week off then by DS 1st birthday (end of Nov) I should have managed 1 stone off and have normal BMI so that is my challenge.

Hope everyone else is good, have a lovely weekend xx

Hi everyone, it's me under a name change (I'm sure you can guess). Still ploughing away. No loss last week due to excessive cake intake on NFDs but I am still 1 stone 1lb down. So srlf ill delighted! Hoping for an extra lb on Monday and ideally to hit my first goal by end of Nov (was Nov 5th but I don't think I'll get there in time).

Becky that's a motivational thought of what can be achieved in a year!
I'm not back yet really, I'm afraid. Was going to have a FD and forgot and had toast for breakfast and gave up and the rest of the week went to pot too!!! Blame it on loss of sleep, masses of work stress Hmm

Another birthday looming on Sunday then I'm definitely back on on Monday. Will have a lot of catching up to do.

Come on luvvies, you can do it. Here's a bit of a motivator / NSV... My nails are amazing since I started 5:2. I have always had nails which break easily... You should see them now! I think it must be because I drink so much water on fast days.

Oh don't worry I will, I'm not demotivated, just a series of events screwed up some eating patterns!

Well now I am demotivated! Despite rigorously sticking to two fast days I've managed to put on a pound! That's so annoying after a week of no loss. Trying to view it as extra motivation for next week. Not quite there in my head yet though!

I'm wondering if my nails are better Tiger. I get shellac nails so I don't know, but they were weak and ridged months ago.

I have failed today. I need to be more organised. Leaving something in the fridge that needed to be eaten today has ruined my day!

I saw this article on the possible reason we need sleep so badly and it encouraged me to go to bed early last night! Re-posting here in case it strikes a chord with anyone else! jezebel.com/science-we-all-need-sleep-to-clean-out-our-brain-garba-1447828445
